Democrats accuse GOP of inciting mobs

A DNC Web ad accuses the GOP of inciting mobs.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Democratic National Committee will amplify its charge that Republicans are responsible for “inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists … to disrupt” town hall meetings in a new 65 second Web video that will release Wednesday morning.

The video shows footage of angry constituents and protestors at recent events and then flashes pictures of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader John Boehner, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, and even conservative talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh on the screen.

“They lost the election,” the narrator says. “They lost on the recovery act, the budget and children's health care. They've lost the confidence of the American people after eight years of failed policies that ruined our economy and cost millions of jobs. Now, desperate Republicans and their well funded allies are organizing angry mobs – just like they did during the election. Their goal? Destroy President Obama.”

The DNC issued a sharp statement Tuesday accusing Republicans and GOP allies of encouraging and coordinating the disruptive behavior at the town hall meetings.

UPDATE: Republican National Committee spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said Democrats were using the charge to dismiss criticism of the president's health care plan.

"In a remarkable example of callousness, the White House and Democrats have reduced the concerns and opinions of millions of Americans to 'manufactured' and have labeled them as 'angry extremists,' for voicing their opposition to President Obama’s government-run health care experiment," she said. "Millions of American families, small business owners, doctors, veterans, seniors – and even House and Senate Democrats – have real and serious concerns over the president’s risky and costly government-run health care experiment.

"And they should – taxpayers will pay for this costly experiment because it will raise taxes without decreasing costs, increase the deficit, will lead to less choice and lower-quality health coverage. Before heading into recess, the Democrats should have read the dozens of public opinion polls showing that a majority of Americans believe President Obama’s government-run health care experiment is a bad idea. Are Democrats so out of touch that they are shocked to learn that Americans are concerned about their $1.6 trillion government-run health care experiment?"

This comes as no surprise. The GOP desires it's political power back, at apparently any cost yet, they fail to understand that America wants to move on...without them!

The democrats are paranoid!!!! First it was the insurance companies hiring us, and now the GOP. Wonder what they will come up with next?

Simple to say, WE DON'T WANT YOUR SOCIALIST HEALTH PLAN. Republicans are educated (as opposed to democrats) and can read and understand the garbage that is being touted as a National Health Plan.

The dems can take their plan and stick it where the "sun don't shine!"

It's not only the GOP. It's United Healthcare, Aetna, Blue Cross and the large pharmaceutical companies who are funding these fanatics via their giant lobbying firms. They are trying to preserve their record profits by gaming the system with lies, distortions, fear and playing to the ignorance of the mob. America is the only civilized country in the world who does not provide health care to everyone. We are the only country which pays private insurance company billions of dollare to exclude people for preexisting conditions and deny them needed treatment. They are spending over a million dollars a day trying to stop any type of bill.

These people who are disrupting town halls aren't patriotic and don't seem to believe in a democratic system. Town halls are there so everyone can be heard, not just shouting imbeciles. Unlike the W town halls where you had to sign an agreement to participate, these are OPEN to ALL in the public. Don't abuse this freedom by trying to stifle open and free discussion. That's what dictators do.

    What happened to the GOP?

Typical GOP tactics and lies. They are now disrupting town hall meetings by shouting out any conversations. The GOP says once the American people hear about health care, they won't like it. BUT, they know that's a lie. That's why their new tactic is not to allow the American people to hear anything. They know that the American people REALLY Want Health Care, they are scared! The American people now know that these shouters are nothing more than extreme right wing Nuts. The GOP supports the insurance and drug companies, Not the American people. If you want to know why, FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Well, I for one believe it's about time people talked about this. I've seen it on both sides in rallies and protests, but never was I more terrified of the leadership as when I heard the McCain/Palin supporters yell "Hang him!" and "Terrorist!" when talking about Obama. That kind of speech has no place in a developed, civilized world. So we can either stop pretending we are civilized, or try to show the good example that earned us the respect of the world after being around only 200 years.

T he Repubs still don't get the fact that we are now living in a post-racial world, and that people are now judged on the basis of what they do and not by the color of their skin.

The average Republican is being used by the health care lobbies, who want nothing to do with reform. They are being used by Beck and Hannity, who want nothing more than to see Dems fail. They are being used by a bunch of people who truly want poor people and the unemployed to suffer, because to help them might change their own way of life a tiny bit, and they will not tolerate any change in their own status. The accusations hurled at these meetings are not true, yet Republican leaders think if they scare enough people and repeat the mantra enough times, the bill will go down, or at least, be watered down so that the pharma companies will still make their huge profits. So tell me who the Republican leadership wants to help. Not their constituents...just the guys who support their campaigns with the big bucks.

Here is my question....are they mad because they were asked and honest question?? Whether it be from a "right winged extremist". Or are they mad because they had to either lie and say that they read this bill or that they haven't read it.

Either way, I have heard recordings of the town hall meetings. And yes there was a lot of hoop la, but it was primarily because the idiots couldn't answer a single question!!!

FYI Dems in Washington, we are not all a bunch of Lemurs that are ready to follow you off the cliff. There are some of us that still believe in America and its promise of tomorrow....without the aid of tax payer money for everything!

I'm surprised to see this reported in the MSM. I assumed that uncomfortable truths about the right would be related to the blogs and a few liberal pundits.

Congratulations CNN, for pulling back the curtains and allowing the sun to shine on this fungus on the body politic.

The DNC can stick it in their ear. The people at those town hall meetings are both Democrat and Republican, and they are hardly rabid extremists.

What's coming up at town hall meetings and similar events are simply ordinary, everyday Americans who strongly oppose the way things are going in government these days, i.e., more taxes, more borrowing, more spending when there isn't any money to spend, Obamacare, bailouts, mushrooming debt, increasing government control and regulation, what looks more and more like a welfare state or, as some call it, a nanny state, etc. etc. etc.

Puh-leeeze! Let's get back to the basics of the U.S. Constitution and what used to be the American standard of individual responsibility and personality accountability. With no unearned entitlements.

Once again the repugs have no asnwers to the questions, but their scare tactics continue. These mobs are being set up by insurance lobbying companies in DC.
BTW folks, this IS socialis/communism. I can think of at least two countries, maybe three, where the people are bussed in for demonstrations. Of course, in Curba, North Korean and possibly Venezuela they are there to show support for the government not bring it down!
This is not helping the repug's cause at all.

Who is surprised? With no alternative plan of their own, Republicans are taking the usual approach here by playing dirty. These tricks are the only reason Republicans get elected anymore. Angry lies fueling fear and distrust.

Bush used lies and fear against Kerry in 04. I thought it was so obvious that people would have learned not to listen anymore, but there will always be the crazies, I suppose.

    DUH – ya think?

The Insurance Companies are paying big bucks for help from the GOP to stop this healthcare reform. They might have to give up their big bonuses if the outrageous premiums stop being paid. And the premiums are going up even now !!

  25. The Party of NO stood calmly by for 8 year while the shrub raped and pillaged America, so, why would we listen to you now?

All of these town halls and public forums should be cancelled before someone is injured or worse.

These members of the rabid Reich are just that, rabid. They have proven they are not interested in a civil discourse, but are only interested in "breaking" this black President at any cost.

I am afraid that would even include killing others "for the cause".
