WASHINGTON (CNN) - National Republicans turned the tables on their political counterparts Wednesday by redirecting angry telephone calls coming into their switchboard to the Democratic National Committee.

The DNC released a Web video early in the morning accusing the GOP of inciting mob activity at town hall meetings.

At the end of the video, the DNC instructs people to call the Republican National Committee to express outrage. Callers who dial the RNC's main number to voice their concern about the DNC's charges are told to press 1, which sends them to the DNC's main switchboard.

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse described the RNC's redirection as a "neat trick," but said it just further proves the Democrats' point about the GOP.

"The RNC is inciting angry mobs to shout out legitimate discussion at public events across the country and now they want to ignore people who deplore their tactics," Woodhouse said. "Republicans don't want to have a discussion about the future of health care reform – they want to shout out – and now completely ignore – anyone who disagrees with them."

RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho dismissed the DNC's charge and accused Democrats of "trying to divert attention from the widespread opposition to President Obama's government-run health care experiment.

"The fact is many Democrats are opposed to the president's plan, including many Democrats in Congress," she said. "We wanted to make sure that callers who believe only 'rabid extremists' are opposing the president's health care plan have the opportunity to express those concerns to the DNC."

This president of ours is short on class and integrity. Ever since the 1970's, the media declared it was the people speaking and acting on their own if it furthered the left's agenda. It has been proven repeatedly and brazenly that the left has organized, bussed, and/or paid demonstrators. They even boasted about it on national TV.
Yes, the left and right may do this, but does not prove it in this occurance. CNN, report facts not wishful thinking! Find the truth and report NOT report and adjust the truth!

Johnny DC   August 5th, 2009 3:53 pm ET

It's called being beat. You were beat, DNC. You try to incite "calling riots" to counter the evil GOP who apparently incited "rally riots", and they easily defeated your pitiful strategy.

Applaud, congratulate them, and move on. Well played, GOP.

The DNC is nothing but arrogance in sheep's clothing. Liberal posters and Democrat leaders are the most arrogant people alive, yet they pretend to be the opposite.

Al, CA   August 5th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

The GOP has ALWAYS opposed every social program put forth by the Democrats here is a list.........

Medicare
Medicaid
Unemployment benefits
Minimum Wage
Social Security
SCHIP
ETC....

What's new? The Grand Old Obstructionist Party is continuing its campaign of hate, lies, fear & division!

Republicans are tasteless and tactless. Have they no decency? Have they no shame?

Scott from Arizona   August 5th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

My God! For once, can we have a civil debate on the merits and ideas for healthcare reform. Its not about who's right and who's wrong but whats best. We're looking at a health system in which Medicare will be insolvent in a decade or less, where a family of 4 will be paying 1/3 of their family income to insurance companies for health premiums, where at least 1/3 of everything done in healthcare is waste, and over 2 million Americans go bankrupt from medical bills every year.

The time is over for partisan games!!

Gary   August 5th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

Only this mob revolt will force Obama and Pelosi to listen to the people and stop wasting money, stop ruining the healthcare system, stop all this nonsense. Until the next election when we can vote them out the only thing we can do is protest.....loudly!

Kevin in Atlanta   August 5th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

The Republicans have no interest in a rational discussion on health care reform. Their sole goal is to stop ANY legislation from getting thru Congress hoping to embarrass Obama.

Everyone knows those angry mobs showing up at town hall meetings across the country are being coordinated by conservative websites, most of them don't even live in that district. Their purpose is to intimidate these congressmen into voting against reform.

Geralyn   August 5th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

More dirty tricks from the RNC. And yet, there are still those that defend them. It would be funny if health care reform was not as deadly serious as it is. And I mean " deadly". Without health care reform people will not be able to keep up with the rising costs. They will get sick and not be able to afford treatment and people will die.
All of our senators and congressmen should not have healthcare until all the citizens of the United States have healthcare coverage.

sandy   August 5th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

Can't we all just get along?

Steve Barnard   August 5th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

The Obama health plan is long on platitudes and short on specifics. With 8 out of 10 people satisfied with their insurance and 1/3 of the uninsured qualified for Medicaid it seems like smaller adjustments more focussed on cost containment would be more practical.

Judi   August 5th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Perfect! DNC inciting mobs to express their outrage while complaining about mobs expressing their outrage.

It was Obama who said to argue and get in people's faces and that community organization was a good thing.

Georgia   August 5th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

The RNC should have a new acronym: RAM = Republicans are Morons!

They don't care about Middle Class American's – they only care about the rich and major corporations!!!!!!! When are people going to wake up to this when they vote??????

David Hall   August 5th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

People have a right to express how they feel and politicians are not happy with what everyone has to say. Politicians always think they know what is best, but often they do not as with this healthcare bill.

Anarchy X   August 5th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Good for you, GOP!

What a hypocritical attack by the DNC. They routinely shout down anyone who thinks government health care is bad, who thinks abortion is bad, or who thinks global warming is a natural phenomenon (which, believe it or not, every responsible scientist would be forced to acknowledge the world has been both much colder and much warmer than it is today, without mankind having been around.)

Apparently the DNC does not think people opposed to health care "reform" should be told about town meetings and encouraged to express their opinions. Just people who think it's a good idea, ie. socialists.

George   August 5th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Let's have a referendum on the proposed health plan and see if the people really want it. Don't tell us that a referendum would be too expensive with all our money that Obama is giving away. A referendum would be a worthwhile expense.

Wes   August 5th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

That is exactly how my 6 year old and 5 year old behave. Maybe they should run for congress. This country is in a low and rising but maybe our leaders could stop bickering and behave like adults and try and get us out of this recession.

Gee   August 5th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

It amazes me that the Democrats have been using these tactics for decades....in fact one of the most dangerous groups in America right now is ACORN and their partner groups....seems like they believe it is okay for them to organize and come out in the public but it is some how creepy, unfair tactics when the Republicans take a page from the Democrat's own book and use it against them.....typical liberal whiners trying to find a scapegoat for an ill-conceived health care reform plan....

Jon   August 5th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Apparently the GOP can't take a bit of criticism.

Kevin   August 5th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

The Republicans can oppose something but do it in a respectful way protesting in the streets about health care is stupid. We all want affordable great health care in the United States so we must work together to get it. Since the health care plan has not been final in any form yet...what are we debating now? I support the President and will certainly listen to his plan. If I don’t like the plan then I will keep what I have, but trust me we need health care now. We talked about it for years.

flygirl   August 5th, 2009 3:36 pm ET

Childish is what it sounds like.

But chickens when they listen to how the Americans feel. Don't think it won't effect you young people because it will. Insist your Congressmen, Senators read the reform and read it to you. Why is the media so ready to accept the GOP's position on healthcare by allowing them to continually misrepresent what they and you know not to be true. Most Americans do want healthcare reform and really aren't getting into the politics. The Republican party dominates only 7 states in the entire nation. They know as well as the media knows that when healthcare reform passes, it will be a very long time before Republicans gain power on the Hill again. Just as we witnessed during the election, lack of ideas and relying on personal and policy attacks and lies, don't work anymore. The American people have seen this movie before and didn't like the end. This time, they will be going to a different movie.

So let me get this right. The Republican party is playing high school pranks while the country drowns in over priced co-oped corporate health care. Is it any wonder they have to tell thier followers what to do and think?

Is it any wonder they are a dying shell of what Dwight D. Eisenhower stood for?

Ask Sarah Palin, if she even knows who Dwight Eisenhower was.

Clever but dishonest. That's today's GOP in a nutshell (emphasis on nut) Able to dish it out, but unable to take it (no wonder they love Sarah Palin). Demanding that they be heard but denying that opportunity to all who oppose them (remember, Democrats weren't even *allowed* in Bush's town halls). Singing the praises of democracy while undermining its very foundations. Cynical in the extreme and offering the American people nothing but fear itself.

This DNC claim is false. I went to my congressman's town hall couple of weeks ago. Very concerned, civil crowd. When I calmly directed my opposition to a state senator on the dias, she shouted me down. Very unprofessional and disrepectful. Truth is, conservatives work hard, care about freedom, and want all who work to better themselves to succeed. It simply rubs us the wrong way when we are asked to pay for folks looking for a handout. Most of us worked our way up from humble beginnings. This country gave us a chance, we looked around at how to make a good life, and went after it. Didn't ask for, or expect the government to pay for our needs. We worked for it. Simple. Thanks.

Gail Gitcho isn't very bright: "We wanted to make sure that callers who believe only 'rabid extremists' are opposing the president's health care plan have the opportunity to express those concerns to the DNC."

Regardless of who opposes it, the people calling the RNC and being rerouted to the DNC are those who SUPPORT it. Meanwhile, the RNC adds more fuel to the Dem's claim that Americans want this by the sheer volume of calls. But hey, if the rethugs in charge are really so clueless as to not get that, more power to them!

That being said, they don't seem to want to represent constituents who don't toe the party line. At least the dems will put themselves out there to be screamed at (or shouted over) by organized mobs paid for by big pharma and big insurance. Don't deny it thugs – your corporate handlers have already admitted it and sold you out.

I think the problem the DNC chairman has with this is really that the dems had not done it. There is no proof that he or the dems have regarding their charge that republicans were inciting the mobs that are against Obama's and especially Nancy Pelosi's and Waxman's idea of a health plan.

What is worse – is that this is the party that considers themselves "Christians" and they are anything BUT...especially in their fight against helping heal those less fortunate (i.e.healthcare reform).

The hypocrisy is pathetic.

It is killing their argument.

Let me remind everyone what the GOP did in Florida in 2000 during the recount. They sent their hooligans there to disrupt the recounting work in the precints. So, why should anyone be surprised at what is happening now at local town hall meetings? Afterall, this is the party that, figuratively speaking, "eats their own". Ask John McCain how Geroge Bush, Karl Rove et al., maliciously and without merit attacked him during the 2000 primaries. They wrote the playbook on "dirty" politics.

The media is stoking this to it's peril. You keep feeding it and we will do the same things they are doing and fights will ensue in the street and the Republicans will pull their guns. People are already being killed for the anger and fear stoked by the Republicans and some media outlets. Just as John Hoyher said it's going to be a hot summer if not a summer of bloodshed. The media might want to pipe this down a little bit before they begin to reap what they sowed.

Melissa   August 5th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

For 8 years the GOP declared anyone that didn't kiss Bush's butt was not a real American and was an enemy to the American way of life. Now they're whining because we won't put up with it anymore. Enough is enough.

Jerry   August 5th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Typical of some conservatives.....win at any cost.

Nick   August 5th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

at what point have they NOT done this? I guess there is a part of me that is relieved to see that the Democrats are finally acknowledging that they have let these crooks completely railroad the government. Maybe someday they will DO something about it, instead of just trying to talk about it.

lila   August 5th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

The mobs are not able to have an honest debate about health care. If you try and talk to one of them they start making the most crazy claims and have no real proof to back it up.
What I hear is that they are angry and afraid. They don't want to hear information that is going to make them feel less angry and afraid. Facts are not the issue. They reject facts as "MSM" lies or Obama lies. They reject reality because it does not give them what they need. The issue is that they need something to believe that will support their fear and wrath because it validates their emotions.

The democrats complain about the republicans and then put out an outrageous video demeaning all conservatives!! What were they thinking? That the repubs would say thanks? They got what they deserved at the DNC. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.

Billy Bob   August 5th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

What the heck is wrong the the Republican party!! Do they think health care is some kind of joke? It's not that funny to the 47 million uninsured Americans out there.

Huh. I think it is time for these spoiled children to get a thumping and put in timeout.

They have captured the essence of the "human" spirit on all fronts.

Sadly – Republicans look like a "hate" oriented organization or at least ANTI-AMERICAN!

I doubt we will see republicans in power ever again?

Annie, Atlanta   August 5th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Hiring retirees on Medicare (oh my God, one of those gummit health care programs) to shout down the democratic process at these town halls is quite the class act. Why do Republicans hate Americans, and favor large corporations and their profits instead?

Meredith   August 5th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

I'm all for debating health care reform, but the RNC is acting like a bunch of fifth-graders here. Forwarding the calls to the DNC? Really? Nothing like rational political discourse. Grow up, or be punished for it.

Reader   August 5th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Is anyone awake over there at CNN? Please correct the typo on your main page. It's DNC not RNC!

Jon   August 5th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

No matter what the RNC says, the American people understand the need for health care reform. We might disagree with how to fix it, but we agree it needs to be fixed. The RNC is simply doing what should be expected of a group beholden to insurance company executives who stand to lose a lot of money if reform is passed. But reform we need.

Gene   August 5th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Wow.. so the RNC won't even take the calls.. they just forward the calls away to not have to deal with them? If I ran my business that way, I'd be out of business.

The party of "Boehner the Complainer" is doing what? Let's not do a thing about health care. We're on pace to double the population of seniors in our country in the coming years and when they demand health care for their malady of their health issues let's tell them we couldn't figure it out. They won't have to worry about "Canadian-style health care." They can just worry about having no health care.

sharon   August 5th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

The Gallup Poll shows that at this time there are only 4 states that are solid Republican states and 1 leaning Republican state. Of the rest of the 45 states 10 are competitive, and the other 35 are either leaning Democratic or solid Democratic states.

Playing silly games when people are dying of cancer because they have no health insurance shows a gross lack of compassion and is simply inane. This does not help the Republican cause in the least.

Pat   August 5th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

What is the real truth here? I don't believe the Democrats nor the Republicans. I'm nervous about this health plan because the Goverment has failed in managing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans affairs, Banking, Mortgage issue, Environmental concerns – both parties have failed for many years. Instead of both parties trying to ignore the other party perhaps they should really work together. Both parties have bad ideas and they need to come up with good ideas.

These poor, crazy, easily manipulated, violent prone mobs are now attacking congress people physically. This really crosses the line. I am so amazed at how easy it is to drive these people to violence. They are a danger to all of us and a danger to democracy. I guess there is no mystery how the Nazi's came to power in Germany. Has any historian looked at the role of IG Farben and other corporations and their part in bringing Hitler to power? The republicans need to stop feeding this violence. Debate is one thing, verbal disruption still plays within the rules but violence is not acceptable.

LISA   August 5th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

Doesn't suprise me that the GOP are behind this. Remember during the election. They had all those hate rallys calling Obama names
and shouting out off with his head. Most of them are a bunch of
racist anyways. Most people with sense know the GOP are for the private insurance companies that gives them money on the side.
They've always been for the big businesses. They don't wanna lose that big chunk of change. That can all be fixed come 2010. CAN'T WAIT!

DJ in the Silicon Forest   August 5th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

Gotta love them Dems!!! Throwing hissy fits when the GOP steals a page from their playbook! Like the saying goes..."If it weren't for double standards, Democrats would have no standards!"

Marc from San Diego   August 5th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

They're up to their old tricks again, you've got to hand it to the GOP–the "do nothing" party. They all say that healthcare needs to be fixed, but they had the presidency for 8 years and control of the house and senate for 6 of those years, and didn't do a single thing on healthcare. They honestly think the American public is stupid.

Justin   August 5th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

I love it! I think the Democrats don't have a very good sense of humor. At least the ones that talked to CNN.

Saboth   August 5th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

I guess big money can buy a lot of big mouths. Healthcare reform is going to be needed sooner than later. The types of programs offered by people like McCain might help a few "better off" people, and perhaps some of the elderly and children, but what about reform for the middle class? Probably within the next 20-30 years, healthcare costs will be so high, not even the middle class will be able to afford it. And even if you CAN afford it, once you actually need it, your provider will just find some way to deny your claims, due to the fact you never told them you had a tooth pulled or some other minor occurance. Repubs have no new ideas, but just want to say "no" (as usual). Funny how when they were in power, they could only say "yes" to out of control spending.

Grog in Ohio   August 5th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

Common Sense   August 5th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

Let me get this right. The RNC is all for expressing itself and having its constituents exercise what they believe to be their constitutional right to shout down people of opposing viewpoints but they refuse to take calls about their own conduct? Please tell me that it was not Herr Rove's idea to redirect calls.

Mich   August 5th, 2009 3:06 pm ET

Dear DNC
I have gone to town hall meeting to express my concerns over the bill. I voted for Obama, but I don't like this health Care Plan. I have also protested against it. I do not receieve a paycheck from any of the following:
Health Care people
RNC
or any one else. They didn't pay me to express my opinion. It looks like to me the DNC needs to stop crying and get out and answer the question from the people that voted for you.

MomofFour   August 5th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

The DNC is the one trying to change the message. They can't answer hard questions from voters who don't want their healthcare ruined by this socialist takeover by the government of our healthcare system. So instead of acknowledging legitimate questions they blame the Republicans. It's the only thing they can do. They are the majority. They have congress, the senate, and the white house and they don't have the votes because the PEOPLE ...not the Republicans...Know a skunk when they smell it.

Why is it that when liberals shout down their opponents such as Tom Tancredo at UNC, that's ok, but when conservatives employ similar tactics, they are called a mob? Am I the only one that feels CNN's coverage is lopsided on these issues?

RB   August 5th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

I subscribe to multiple lists on the left and the right to attempt to stay informed. I can honestly say that I haven't gotten a single email or call depicting the type of "MOB" building by the GOP.

I can say however that within the last 48 hours I've gotten at least 4 from my main Obama supporting lists asking me to go to specific gatherings, meetings and public places to show support.

I guess it's only grass roots if no conservatives are involved...

Huge stimulas pork filled bills without even reading them before voting on them as well as the Cap and Trade rip off. Again they don't even read it. That is NOT representation.
They need to stop blaming the GOP and look in the mirror as to why people are so angry. this Healthcare bill is outlandish as well... No no no dems, we the people are angry, not because the GOP says we should be but because your lack of listening to the people, and your dismanteling of everything I love about this country.

The Republican version of a Health Care Plan was not given any reasonable consideration by the Democratic majority in discussions concerning ALL Americans. (Health Care aka Health Beware).

Now we are supposed to believe that the 'PUSH THIS THROUGH NOW' group wants the opinion of someone other than Barak Obama?

We see you... we hear you...but we don't understand you. Why are so many Democrats in lock-step behind a HORRIBLE HEALTH CARE PLAN. Just admit it is junk.. and work with both sides to get it right.

People are hurting... in the meantime.. elected officials are fighting like
playground idiots.

mjm   August 5th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

That’s right! The people yelling at the Democrats are really fake protesters. Real protesters only yell at republicans. Everyone knows that.

And when the polls show bad news for Democrats, it's really because Republicans fixed the poll.

And when Dems lose in Florida, it's because of voter fraud.

When they win in Minnesota, it's because the people had spoken.

Or..the people don't like the health care plan.

MADinAZ   August 5th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

And even if it is organized, so what? The libs do it all the time.

JGB   August 5th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

The Buzz about the United States Post Office considering closing 700 offices is an indication of the incompetence of the Government being capable of running our health care. How can the post office not have money, they raise the price of stamps every year and they have no competition. Medicare, Medicare and social security are broke and they are wanting to start a multi trillion dollar healthcare experiment! Healthcare reform...Yes, but not the disaster they are trying to cram down our throats. Stop the Democrats before they totally bankrupt this country. Obama is a failed experiment and should be recalled.

Pincus   August 5th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Whatever these protesters think, they are acting in a rabid, undemocratic manner, egged on by scripted phrases and stage moves provided for them by the RNC and the Health Care lobbies. Democrats aren't accusing the Republicans of being behind these juvenile explosions. Democrats have proved it with documents and visual evidence. And with Fox News parroting the talking points, the MSM simply goes along for the ride. But remember: at its very core, this type of action is undemocractic and a threat to the very underpinning of America's political contract with her citizens.

Popduds.com   August 5th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

I believe that the premise is that the GOP (the party of NO) is opposing it and... are inciting this under-educated followers to protest just for the sake of protesting (maybe get on TV... or become the next "Joe the Dumber").

No one said anything about "rabid extremists," opposing healthcare reform. Unless of course, Ms. Gitcho is suggesting that GOP has become synonymous with "rabid extremists." In which case, I'd say she makes a great point.

calvin   August 5th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Both the dnc and gop should get to work and stop playing games. we need a health system that works for all . take your time and do it right that would be a first for your branch of the goverment in 4 decades.

Steve-Illinois   August 5th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Why is it that any group that is against a healthcare reform bill, that our elected officials for some reason refuse to actually read, are considered "angry mobs," but a group giving speeches and cheerleading for healthcare reform is considered a rally?
It seems pretty simple, ask your elected representatives if they feel the health care reform bill is good enough for them and their families, then include yourselves in the coverage, and vote yes. If not, then vote no. If all elected officials and government employees are covered under the same plan, then it's good enough for me. but if not, then I'll choose for myself.

Standardman   August 5th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Can you people not see that no matter WHAT the trickery (on both sides) that people are fed up, pay a little closer attention to what is going on, people are mad and they are both DEMOCRATS AND REPULICANS, there will be no respect if the congressional members don't listen to the people first, they are tired of giving and tired of NO ACTION! I cannot say with certainty that I oppose healthcare reform when in fact I do not oppose it, IT IS BROKEN and a sweeping bill that NO CONGRESSIONAL member has read really ticks their consitituency off tokn end, DO NOT GO blindly into that good night, do not follow a pied piper just becasue of the song, listen to the ones who are affected by this,. TALK TO THOSE IN HEALTHCARE who have workable solutions.

These Dems are out of touch with the American people. If Obama care is not good enough for them then it's certainly NOT good enough for the lowly tax paying citizens. They seem to forget that THEY WORK FOR US!!!!

jim   August 5th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

A petty stunt and not even a rebuttal of the DNC's claims. Its maturity level ranks around "I you are but what and I am?" and "yo mama".

It seems to me that the majority of partisan nonsense comes from party officials in the RNC & DNC, and less from elected government officials.
Anyone else notice this?

SallySue   August 5th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Everyone should be very afraid of any health care plan that comes out of "Congress" that doesn't include the members of Congress in the plan. Guess they can't lower themselves to what's good enough for the masses. Whatever they come up with should apply to all – including "NOBAMA"!

Elle   August 5th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Are these people demented???

WE NEED HEALTHCARE REFORM!!! I am a small business owner and I CAN'T AFFORD the insane rates healthcare companies want to charge me to cover BASIC healthcare for me and my family. We have no prior conditions and we barely even visit the doctor over once a year, yet they want to charge us THOUSANDS of dollars per year – and have the gall to RAISE our rates ever year by more than 10%.

THIS IS WRONG!!!!! WE NEED HEALTHCARE REFORM!!!! Any of you who disagree must either be too rich to care, or too stupid to know any better.

Marey   August 5th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

I was one of the people in the audience at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. While I support any group's right to demonstrate and/ or protest as loudly as they like, their rights should cease when they infringe upon my rights. I wanted to hear what the speakers had to say so that I can make an informed decision on a serious issue. The demonstrators should have been removed from the hall, either by security or Philadelphia's Finest, and given space outside to make their point.

A. Goodwin   August 5th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

I hope this tactic blows up in the GOP's face!!

Kurt   August 5th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Hmm, dirty tricks, mob, shouting down tactics? Sounds familiar. People who did that sort of thing wore brown shirts I think, but I can't remember their party name. Hmmmmmmmmm....

Ellid   August 5th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Wonderful. They gin up the base and then attempt to silence those who call them on it. This is not my father's Republican party by any stretch of the imagination, and I am glad that he did not live to see such tactics.

Andy J, NY, NY   August 5th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

So, let me get this straight......

DNC claims RNC is "inciting mobs," and by this they mean folks are voicing their opposition to the far left agenda being shoved down America's throat.... then DNC tells all their cronies to call RNC to voice their opposition....... yet one is a "mob" and the other is ????????

I don't see a difference. Except the DNC is making wild accusations and calling average americans extremists and "mobs", when they are simply people who are SICK of the SPENDING.

what a bunch of scum bags.

Rodney   August 5th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Angry mob incited by the GOP?

If there is any inciting going on it is clearly on the part of the DNC.

I think EVERYONE, everyone would agree – Voting on bills not read is not just bad but STUPID. And it was a democratic rep – Conyers, making light of actually reading a bill....

Randolph Carter   August 5th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Actually, that's pretty funny. Turnabout is fair play. Good thinking, repubs. Have a nice day!

Lindsey   August 5th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Haha, that's actually pretty funny. Unfortunately the politicians won't listen to the people, so therefore we're destined to live the lives that these elitists want us to live.

Lower 48er   August 5th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Many of us 'wacko democrats' would have liked to do this when ol' Georgy boy came to town – but only republicans were allowed to attend his meetings – the rest of us were kept a mile away.

Perhaps we should do the same with these 'shouters' and see what they say to that?

bdmiller   August 5th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

how old are these people? this is just about the most immature stunt i've heard of in a long time.

GOP = 21st century dodo   August 5th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

I gotta admit, this is kinda funny in a fratboy prankish sort of way. Still, it only reinforces the notion that the GOP should be kept as far away from decision-making as possible

indyphil   August 5th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Just like the last story on this I bet the RNC and their partners are right now getting a group of people together to shout down posts about the story.

michael mixon   August 5th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

The Republicans are doing what they do best, relying on ignorance and fear to breed hate in this country. Hate radio, hateful GOP senators and congresspersons. Hate and greed are all they know.

Dave C - NJ   August 5th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Again, the GOP makes statements that no one said. No one said "only rabid extremists" oppose the reform. They said that the GOP incites rabid extremists, which they of course do, and have always done.

As far as the immature tactic of forwarding their calls, well, it just add it to the list of bad ideas from the GOP.

A.M. Thompson   August 5th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

That is very amusing and clever. Now, if they'd just redirect that effort towards something constructive...

Len in Washington   August 5th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

"Come now children, settle down."

And these jerks (BOTH sides) are deciding our future?

Hey you Boneheads! We're in trouble out here. Stop all your CRAP and get some real work done!

David   August 5th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

The Republican Party... the party of Dirty Tricks since Richard "Dick-less" Nixon.

What a bunch of losers...

mkn   August 5th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Proof once again the Republicans have no good answers so they do stupid, 2nd grade phone jokes instead.

pubsdaddy   August 5th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

The GOP has turned into a fringe group.

Phoenix   August 5th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

So we now have a parallel universe which means the disagreeable folks who show up to harass and harangue Republicans and GOP candidates were instigated by the left leaning liberals?

Seems to me accusations from any side is not addressing the issues and is more to the liking of those who want the Government tit to keep nourishing them through higher taxes, redistribution of wealth earned honestly by others, or allowing freeloading by tax evaders who fail to pay.

Let's just put the money in a big pot and let each of us draw from the trillion dollar lottery an equal share and we can remedy the economy since we all know how to spend when it belongs to us.

Bill Hewett   August 5th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

What the Republicans are doing is nothing short of terrorism in th efirst degree. To them there i sonly one voice in AMERICA and that is lies and more lies. It takes a twisted mind to be a REPUBLICAN.
Bill

Wake Up   August 5th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

dems are such babies. this is who we have running our country? what a mess

Obama Supporter   August 5th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Typical behavior from the Republicans.

How can any civilized person support them?

Susan L.   August 5th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

If they think they're so clever, we should instead swamp the phone lines of individual Republican Congress Critters or other elected officials. Maybe go after your own state party instead of the chickens at the RNC. They can dish it out, but the cowards can't take it.

OIF Vet   August 5th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Once again the GOP does not want to listen to the truth.

George   August 5th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

I said the lie cheat and steal. They are just proving my point. The republican party is an endangered species. Maybe Obama can get congress to help you lost souls. But with your people with no guts allowing Rush Limbaugh to be your mouthpiece, no wonder you are in trouble.

Chopper   August 5th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

1. Screw the DNC. They wanted to portray the tea-party protestors as tools of the RNC, and now will try to do the same to the health care protestors.

2. Print THIS CNN!

jobo2612   August 5th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

petty and childish

Joe   August 5th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

This Democrat is all for the Plan. Who is with me.

Peoples Voice   August 5th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

If they would spend as much time trying to help this country as they do with cooking up these mean spirited ideas, we could solve a lot of problems.

But, to do that would risk having the president being successful with his agenda for the American people.

Is there any doubt these people are the property of big companies?

Shawn   August 5th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

This should successfully highlight the fact that the only people who oppose substantial healthcare reform are the screaming fanatic right-wing lunatic fringe. Cry all you want. We're doing this.

Real Americans are tired of Republicans' extremism, incompetence, lies and corruption. Yes we can and yes we will!

disgusted   August 5th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Are there any Repubicans that can act like an adult? Any? You really need to step up.

JS007   August 5th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Re-directing calls to DNC is childish behaviour. If Rethuglicans want to use angry mobs to supress civil discourse then they should be willing to explain their actions to citizens who call them on it.

susie   August 5th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

The Democrats have ACORN that have disrupted RNC rallys. Both sides do it.

Dave   August 5th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

wow... talk about the cold shoulder to anyone who opposes them... the neo-cons and republicans only care about themselves...

aware   August 5th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

This is great! How do you think Obama won the election? Turn- about is fair play! :)

Alicia   August 5th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

This will not get posted. That is okay, because I now keep track of the days it is apparent this is about Conservative right wingnuts.

What a title? Turn on? LOL

J   August 5th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Republicans are great at gimmicks. Terrible at governing and policy but great at pony shows. Ask Brownie.

xytricia   August 5th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

the republicans are major jerks! i dont understand the problem with government healthcare. i think they dont have any problems with it either. i belive their problem is the "minorities" who will be receiving it!! hey....that is just my opinion..

Julia   August 5th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

republicans are hateful, mean-spirited people. They need a smudgin' ceremony to get rid of their evi-spirits.

Michelle   August 5th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

I hope that most of those "teabaggers" are senior citizens. They will quickly find out that Medicare is government run! Racism and the intent to defeat Obama is going to leave THEM with high premiums or no healthcare (LOL)!

David   August 5th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

This is exactly why the RNC serves no viable purpose to the American people any longer.

To the RNC/GOP, heath care reform or any other viable issue important to the American people, is just a joke. They won't even take calls from registered Republicans who want to voice their opinion about what the RNC is doing.

If the RNC is not listening to Americans who are Republican, Democrat or Independent calling about healthcare reform.....'Who are they listening to?"

sammieb51   August 5th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

I pressed 3 for the finance department and was able to talk to a guy who said the RNC is concerned about blah blah blah in response to my comments about how these pudgy mid-50's white guys look like wife beaters to me - they won't let anyone else express any opinion or even speak. That speaks volumes to their total lack of respect for anyting human or or alive.

Clay   August 5th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

This simply highlights the main problem with the GOP: they're both unwilling to accept the fact that it was they who bear the responsibility for destroying our country and its economy, and don't want to hear the People's complaints of their incidious actions. In days gone by they would have been ridden out of town on a rail. If but only we could only do that now....

annie s   August 5th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Gosh, these people really are slime aren't they? Of course the Republicans are not willing to hear the dissent of the American people; they have never cared about anything except the corporate dollar.

Anonymous   August 5th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

About time !!!

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   August 5th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Redirecting the phone lines to the DNC. That sounds real childish. I guess when you can't provide answers or solutions, you pass the buck.

Larry   August 5th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

That's like a stupid frat prank. Are the Republicans will do anything to derail serious dialogue on health care reform.

a little sad   August 5th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Wow – another juvenile trick.

Guess that drives home the point that the RNC could not care less about the will of the people.

doolindalton   August 5th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

That's not turning the tables; it's more like avoiding responsibility for creating chaos and anarchy.

FORMER republican, NEVER again!   August 5th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Dirty tricks and lies, that's all the GOP ever has.

Sniffit   August 5th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

"to shout out legitimate discussion "

Somehow, I'm 100% certain he did not characterize it as "legitimate." PROOFREAD! I mean, for god's sake, it's QUOTE!

GOPer   August 5th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

The RNC does not take responsibility for their deplorable tactics. GOPers would rather play games than solve our health care issues.

These Republicans do not know how to govern and should never be back in office. Vote out more Party of NO in 2010.

Cheryl   August 5th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

Well there you have it. The GOP makes it clear they have zero interest in hearing what Americans have to say.

Jim Vogh   August 5th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

Boy, how many tricks does the RNC have in their pocket that they haven't used yet.

unknown   August 5th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

It is good to know that even with two wars, a financial crisis, unemployment, the housing crisis, and the healthcare plan that will probably fail... the the rnc and dnc still have time to play these pointless games.

I mean is anyone in either party paying attention to the actual country they were elected to serve and fix vs just sitting around and pointing the blame on one another and putting out pointless memo's on what beer the president and his guests should drink.

Mary   August 5th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

Childish, simply childish!!!

Shingo   August 5th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

And so if the RNC is involved in the mob town halls or not they just became an accessory to this type of action. That alone lends suspension that the GOP is involved.

sammieb51   August 5th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Last I heard, it was free country and we all had a voice. Dealing with the accelerated fear tactics of these MOBS it is hard to get your voice heard .... oh that's the point ha? And the spineless GOP forwarding the calls! These guys think the mainstream American likes to be treated like this? They should be arrested for inciting riots - I guess they don't like free speech too much ha? Most of the folks I saw on the late news inciting riots were guys in their 50's who looked much older than 50's, fat with their fat wives - hope they are getting paid good because they are the ones that won't be able to get insurance when/if that job falls apart on them - the 50-64 group - and if they think the $5K voucher the GOP is proposing will cover their premiums in private insurance fo the year, they are stupider than they look.

Robert   August 5th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

well that's just sad. the GOP has this opportunity to listen to the other sides concerns-and instead they just choose to put the blinders on.

Jeff   August 5th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

How much does it cost for robocalls these days GOP? I am an Independent centrist white male hockey dad with insurance who is for a strong independent party to replace the DNC and GOP. However, until this can happen on the health care reform issue i side with the DNC. Whether it is the DNC, GOP or another party...we must have health care reform! WE HAVE TO UNITE to counter out of control insurance corporation giants, lobbyists, and elite wealthy oligarchs that control this country. That's Socialist you say? Well then let's get social I say if that's what you want to call it.

Four and The Door   August 5th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

These are real people with real problems about the next mistake democrats are going to cram down America's throat. We've had enough already. Listen closely. 2010 is right around the corner.

Scott L   August 5th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

I love it. Democrats encourage people to call RNC to yell at them because GOP is asking people to yell at Democrats.

Both are hypocrites.

Where is the real independent candidate in the next election?

A true social liberal with a fiscally conservative backbone. Someone who is not polarizing. Someone who is realistic.

Lisa P   August 5th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

How very thoughtful of the GOP, sending the people who are most passionate and motivated about this issue to the Democrats so they can sign them up. This maneuver should fill out the Democrats' phone and mailing lists nicely :-)

Jimmy the Greek   August 5th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

PLEASE Democrats – keep it up!!!

Keep insulting the American people.

Keep calling angry taxpaying citizens a "mob" or "astroturf".

Keep pushing your Government take-over of the Health industry and ignore the protests.

.

This is the SUREST way for the GOP to retake the Congress in 2010 and for Barry to get the boot in 2012.

Karen   August 5th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Typical useless Republicans. They don't work, they just want to act like street gangs....bully bully bully. And the Republicans' stupid "tricks" as usual. Who in their right minds would EVER vote for a Republican again? No work, just complain, whine, say no, incite riots. Useless and not dignified intelligent politicians at all. No ideas, just whining and tricks.

Ben   August 5th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

I must say, though, that that automatic answering prompt is an obvious trap.

jjr   August 5th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

This is funny, however lets go back a year ago, the RNC convention vs. the DNC convention. There were no mob riots at the DNC convention, however, at the RNC convention there were mob riots that attacked police officers and convention members. They were hideous people physically assaulting people and yet the DNC said nothing. Now people are merely shouting their frustrations and now the DNC are throwing a fit.

TalkingPocket   August 5th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

the DNC and GOP are killing America slowly like 2 doctors arguing over how to prop up a patients head while he's bleeding out.

Political Novice   August 5th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Wow

So anyone (Republican, Independant, Democrat) that has a concern about the way the RNC is handling something, they are directed to the DNC site.

The RNC needs to listen instead of redirect.

Fed Up   August 5th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Democrats just can't handle the fact that we DON'T want their version of healthcare reform. Yes, we want reform, but not Obamacare. It is the Democrats who refuse to listen to the will of the people and we are sick and tired of their arrogance and ease in raising our taxes. They can't run anything efficiently or within budget. Why would anyone with half a brain trust them with their lives?

Dennis   August 5th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Dirty tricks is all they know. They learned well from Atwater, Rove and Cheney, Focus on the Family and many, many others. Instead of having an intellegent debate, they stoop to the lowest common demoninator on the intellence scale. Fortunately a majority of the American people are smarter than they are to recognize their non-productive plots.

beevee   August 5th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Seems like the GOP is a bunch of jealous losers resorting to these type of things. Hope the public realizes it and take the proper action of not voting to them in future elections.

Tulsa   August 5th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

So, the REPUBLICANS won't answer their phones? How scared are they?
What a bunch of weenies.
Do they (the RNC) understand that the American people are disgusted with government in general and want ANSWERS as to why they are against whatever our duly elected Presiden and Congress decide to enact?
I suppose it's easier to cut and run. Just like a Republican. All talk but no substance.

Time to spend $$$ on our people, not foreign wars!   August 5th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

that's the only thing republicans are good at, scare tactics.

Neutralizer   August 5th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Anger of the people are not directed to the GOP, we're not dumb and stupid; we knew democraps has supermajority they don't need a single vote from the GOP to pass their garbage bill.

Democraps, take responsibility for a change and be held accountable, your problem is not the GOP, it is your own party. Don't pass the buck, you have supermajority, you don't need the GOP. The GOP couldn't even present their own version of health care Pelosi and Reid kill it right away. Thanks CNN for another propaganda supporting Obambi, it doesn't work anymore, the American people, the sleeping giant is finally wide awake.

Bill   August 5th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

The RNC doing what Republicans do best: avoiding responsibility and blaming the Democrats.

Teknarik   August 5th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

LOL this is hilarious! Way to go GOP! Hopefully will teach Dems a lesson on publicizing phone numbers in ridiculous video clips!

Alan   August 5th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

Wow. Just wow. Every day the Republicans prove how shallow and uncaring they really are. This takes the cake. THEIR constituents, calling THEIR number to express their unhappiness with what THEIR party is doing, auto-redirected to the DNC lines.

If this happens to you and you're a Republican - I'd say just take the opportunity, while you're connected with the DNC, to join up and donate. It's time to put the dinosaur out of its misery once and for all so our country can finally move forward.

Once You Vote Black   August 5th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

I was going to give the GOP a $300 donation today by CC but when I got redirected to the DNC I just gave the money to them.

Dave in Illinois   August 5th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Ah, the wonderful new era of politics that President Obama promised us. Why does it look and feel the same as always.

Independent   August 5th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Have anyone notice, everything about the repubs is negative, negative negative
