WASHINGTON (CNN) - National Republicans turned the tables on their political counterparts Wednesday by redirecting angry telephone calls coming into their switchboard to the Democratic National Committee.
The DNC released a Web video early in the morning accusing the GOP of inciting mob activity at town hall meetings.
At the end of the video, the DNC instructs people to call the Republican National Committee to express outrage. Callers who dial the RNC's main number to voice their concern about the DNC's charges are told to press 1, which sends them to the DNC's main switchboard.
DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse described the RNC's redirection as a "neat trick," but said it just further proves the Democrats' point about the GOP.
"The RNC is inciting angry mobs to shout out legitimate discussion at public events across the country and now they want to ignore people who deplore their tactics," Woodhouse said. "Republicans don't want to have a discussion about the future of health care reform – they want to shout out – and now completely ignore – anyone who disagrees with them."
RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho dismissed the DNC's charge and accused Democrats of "trying to divert attention from the widespread opposition to President Obama's government-run health care experiment.
"The fact is many Democrats are opposed to the president's plan, including many Democrats in Congress," she said. "We wanted to make sure that callers who believe only 'rabid extremists' are opposing the president's health care plan have the opportunity to express those concerns to the DNC."

The Gallup Poll shows that at this time there are only 4 states that are solid Republican states and 1 leaning Republican state. Of the rest of the 45 states 10 are competitive, and the other 35 are either leaning Democratic or solid Democratic states.
Playing silly games when people are dying of cancer because they have no health insurance shows a gross lack of compassion and is simply inane. This does not help the Republican cause in the least.
Those same angry telephone calls the RNC redirected can be re-directed back at them.
They had better watch out.......their mistakes are coming home.

The party of "Boehner the Complainer" is doing what? Let's not do a thing about health care. We're on pace to double the population of seniors in our country in the coming years and when they demand health care for their malady of their health issues let's tell them we couldn't figure it out. They won't have to worry about "Canadian-style health care." They can just worry about having no health care.

No matter what the RNC says, the American people understand the need for health care reform. We might disagree with how to fix it, but we agree it needs to be fixed. The RNC is simply doing what should be expected of a group beholden to insurance company executives who stand to lose a lot of money if reform is passed. But reform we need.

I'm all for debating health care reform, but the RNC is acting like a bunch of fifth-graders here. Forwarding the calls to the DNC? Really? Nothing like rational political discourse. Grow up, or be punished for it.

Hiring retirees on Medicare (oh my God, one of those gummit health care programs) to shout down the democratic process at these town halls is quite the class act. Why do Republicans hate Americans, and favor large corporations and their profits instead?
