Huckabee compares his obesity to Obama's spending

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee compares his past weight problem to President Obama's economic policies.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee compares his past weight problem to President Obama's economic policies in a pitch Wednesday for a financial newsletter.

Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor who failed to win the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, charges that the president "is devouring the entire free-enterprise system" and lists Obama's decision to bail out the auto and banking industries as mistakes. The pitch for "Successful Investing" was sent out to readers of the conservative publication Human Events.

Read an excerpt of Huckabee's e-mail after the jump:

President "Obama the Hungry" makes King Henry VIII look like a compulsive dieter!

I know something about overeating. It can kill you. Back when I was governor of Arkansas, I was so overweight I developed Type II diabetes. Doctors told me to lay down the knife and fork - or else. That scared me. I cut the calories and lost 110 pounds. Only then did I regain my health.

Does bloat scare Obama? Heck no. He's hungry for more! Fresh from gulping down $800 billion of our money to load up his Washington smorgasbord, he's planning yet another massive banquet. Obama wants to belly up to the table and swallow the best health care system in the world. And you and I will pay the tab for this gargantuan pig-out!

It is probably safe to say that Huckabee, who now hosts a show on Fox News Channel, won't be invited to the White House for dinner anytime soon.

WHAT? I think Huckabee is suffering from SUGAR STUPIDITY.

Republicans continue to prove that they will SAY ANYTHING and DO ANYTHING to divide our country. SHAMEFUL.

I hope he doesn't have to go for a gastric bypass. Then he would know what it means to have health care coverage. For someone that claim to be a former Pastor, I thank God he left the pulpit when he did. Otherwise he would only have sprung hatred among his flocks. Not that he doesn't already.

You know Republicans should be holding group therapy sessions for themselves rather than trying to disrupt honest discussions at town hall meetings. It is clear that losing the election to President Obama has really harmed their psyche. Perhaps they should be re thinking Health Care reform and start advocating for more mental health services. It is clear that they are having a hard time dealing with the reality of the last eight years.

  7. Getting Ridiculous

So true! The spending is out of control! Not to mention the President wants us to believe he is being fiscally responsible. Does he not think we see throught that? No blaming Bush either, Bush started it but Obama ran with it. 1.3T turned into 4T in 6 months. Now they want the 'rich' to pay for it all while the rest of us get handouts?

  10. Moderate Democrat

It is going to be a GREAT feeling when the republicans get their butts handed to them once again in 2012. Wait for it, because when Obama is RE-ELECTED, we will truly tell you SHUT UP......You have lied, you were delusional and you were wrong!

Republicans, with americans like them, who needs hitler and/or the taliban? They are nothing better than domestic terrorists, albeit slightly less educated.

Hey Mike, your personal lack of self control with your diet has nothing to do with President Obama's efforts to fix our economy broken by evil Republicans like your self. And George W. bailed out the banks with no strings attached, not President Obama. Get your facts straight – and leave that cheeseburger alone.

Classic Republican response. When was the last time a Republican took responsibility for his or her actions? Obama inherited the economic mess and is making concerted efforts to fix it. Whoever thinks fixing the economy would take 6 months must be out of his or her mind

Gov. Huckabee may not have won the nomination, but that doesn't make him wrong on economic policy. I'm still trying to figure out the actual news value of reporting on a conservative statement from a known-conservative person? If the purpose was to raise the country's awareness of those who don't agree with the president–it's a bit out of character for CNN. Once you've boarded the Obama train, you can't get off in the middle of the ride without some damage to your credibility. The rest of us, those who voted for Obama but now understand he's only paying back those who got him elected (auto unions/manufacturers, banking/financial industry, state and local government officials–police unions-and the like)–we already know we're getting screwed which makes this article non-news.

not a huckabee fan but he should know that it is easy to criticize anything or anyone. the tough part is to offer solutions along with the criticism. seems everyone is criticizing barry, not a fan of his either, but enough with criticism. if anyone has a solution then publicly offer it to barry because he definitely need some help being potus.

  19. Disgusting!

This is one of the most disgusting stories I have ever read in my life. I know people that actually struggle in this area of their lives and for this man to make light of such pertinent issues is disgusting to me. I am in need of health care as we speak, as we bitterly fight as a nation. I have not seen one alternative from the republican party, not one! I saw a so-called meeting concerning health care by my congressman. it was nothing more than a meeting to scare ignorant people, people that will not take the time to study the plan. I found it embarrassing that elected officials would resort to such tactics. I do not think this is a funny issue, nothing to use satire about. People are in dire need and we need to come together as a nation and get results that would benefit those that have worked hard, done things right, and need a break. Shame on you, Mike Huckabee!

  21. GOP = Party of Tolerance

Huckabee is not obese. Obama is cleaning up after Bush pushed the economy off the cliff. Bush cut taxes while taking the nation to war, thereby guaranteeing fiscal catastrophe. Bush did NOT cut spending he increased it drastically and even added a new entitlement, the prescription drug benefit. Huckabee is desperate for attention and will say anything to increase his chances in 2012. I guess Huckabee wants GM to go bankrupt without any plan to put GM employees back to work.

  23. Credibility please

Huckabee is unfortunately another Republican hypocrite.

During his time as governor, spending increased 65.3%, three times the rate of inflation. 37% higher sales tax, 16% higher fuel taxes, and 103% higher cigarette taxes.

Where was all of this indignation from Huckster then and during President Bush's wasteful spending spree in Iraq?

President Obama is at least investing in America's recovery this time.

Obama has been the most hate filled and deceptive president that the United States has ever had. Huckabee would be a wonderful replacement in 2012.
