Dean on Palin’s health care claims: ‘She made that up’

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told CNN Sunday that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had deliberately made up charges that the Obama administration’s health care bill would lead to euthanasia.

“About euthanasia, they're just totally erroneous. She just made that up,” he said. “Just like the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’ that she supposedly didn't support.

“There's nothing like euthanasia in the bill. I practiced medicine for a long time, and of course you have to have end of life discussions - the patients want that. There's nothing... euthanasia's not in this bill.”

Dean was referring comments Palin made late Friday in a post on her Facebook page. In her post, the former Republican vice presidential candidate said President Obama’s health care plan would create a “death panel” that would weigh whether her parents or son Trig were “worthy of health care.”

She discounted the administration’s view that the president’s plan would cut health care costs, saying the only path to lower costs was less treatment.

"And who will suffer the most when they ration care?" she wrote. "The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Palin has mostly steered clear of interviews with reporters since leaving office last month. "Democracy depends on you. That is why our troops are willing to die for you," she told the media in her farewell speech. "So how about in honor of the American soldier, ya quit making things up?" She spent several days last week in New York, meeting with her book publisher.

we love the family dog so we help ease their suffering and call it the right thing.

we love grandma so we do everything we can to prolong her suffering and call it the right thing.

I wonder if Palin got the idea for "death panels" from watching old reruns of Logan's Run? Or if her witch-hunting pastor told her about it?

Just remember, boys and girls – this lunatic was nearly our Vice President. Aren't you glad she isn't?

Palin must have received her political tactics from Bush's smear campaigns against Ann Richards or John Kerry. These two twits couldn't have won anything without putting their opponents down with lies.
They are no-talent losers that seem to be intent on using Hitleresque propoganda (big lie) tactics. Phony-assed Christians & peas in a pod!
The Republican Party hasn't been able to win an election so they resort to shenanigans and schemings to steal our democracy away. I'm surprised that we haven't seen another Watergate fiasco. Where's Tricky Dick?

Palin was ok with goverment insurance for Trig when she was governor, if it is so bad why did she accept it for her family.
These people are truly evil, they know if anyone is deciding who ives or die are the insurance companies that will do any thing in their power to deny payments for people who needs expensive medical care.
Palin and people like her who do not encounter this problem are the ones that are telling these lies, until they experience it they will keep doing and saying what they are doing for POLITICAL reasons.

Exactly. These people who beat up on sneators, who blindly follow Palin and Limbugh are on drugs.

The funny thing is, if there is reform, and if there is somekind of public option this is what will happen...

    1. Workers Compensation will be no longer neccessary
    2. State Health Care systems such as Medical in California will no longer be neccessary.
    3. Expensive insurance to cover worksite injuries will not be neccessary.
    4. Medicare will be bundled in with public options or public iption will be bundled in with Medicare reducing costs SIGNIFICANTLY.
    5. Military families and military personnel do not have to have that louse insurance they got now.
    6. We do not have to have a separate VA system as EVERYBODY will be covered. It will be easier for veterans to seek health care.

Public health care helps people, particularly businesses. Only people fighting this are insurance companies and insurance company backed people.

I can keep going on. But people, only people who lose out here is the lawyers, the insurance companies, people who prey on the weak and sickly.

Rush Limbaugh gets PAID. He is protecting his sponsors. FOX has taken a position to bring down this Govt. So nothing they say is going to be positive. Palin has to make things up, she needs the publicity and reaction. And there are a group of people who are just following blindly these piped pipers. And Republicans need to get elected. They need a cause, they need a gay marriage ban like thingy, to beat the opposition with. It is health care!

It is funny. I seriously doubt the people who listen to Rush would understand what I am talking about.

All of you have your head in the sand. Pull it out and wake up.

Stop snowing the public with half truths and lies.

Go to the house bill for each issue being discussed. Show it on a screen as it is currently written.

Oh, I know you don’t dare do this for it will show the WHOLE truth of each issue and the truth won’t fly.

    William-
Hey misinformed dude. TURN THE CHANNEL! He has produced a birth certificate! Ignorance is going to destroy this country. Remember "the commies are coming!" produced in the 50's by the ancestors of the "birthers". Anyone who calls Obama's health care "socialism" should offer to give up their socialized Medicare and SS. Put your money where your mouth is! If Republicans can't be part of the solution they need to just go pout in a corner and shut up.

Sarah Palin is a hypocrite who whines about how the media is not leaving her children alone and she turns around and uses her down syndrome son as a pawn for cheap political publicity, shame on you.

Cnn's latest polling of the nation should have taught the network one thing. How out of touch with the people they are. Every time a vote came around the entire news staff was voting two letter grades above the American public. Maybe they should consider replacing their staff with people who are more in tune with the American people and write and publish stories that holds this government more accountable for the crimes that it commits against it's own people. After all, the media was meant to be a check and balance to unlimited power.

These Republicans who keep saying go read the bill and you'll see are just ridiculous. Any bill at this point is just precursory. You can't read the actual bill anywhere. There are 4 different ones and more to come. After all the committees release theirs they will come back and be negotiated on to find the happy medium between all of them. Then it will become available to read in its final form and go to the floor for a vote. Most of what these people are reading that is labeled as "the Bill" is made up B.S. The right just wants’ to believe what it wants’ to believe. Even if it is completely unfounded.

Lots of political and historical revisionism going on here this morning. Not only is our President a dangerous "Tyrant" trying to euthanize old people, now Hitler was a liberal and Palin is a genius.

Roosevelt and Truman were liberal Democrats and they won against the fascists who were NOT. My goodness, now I see the problem with people sleeping in history class during High School

Kaydee @ 10:57–You've nailed this debacle right on the nose, better than any poster here. I agree 100%. ********Dr. Dean is putting words in Sarah Palins mouth, but even with the sketchy, not quite formed bill, I have a strong feeling that the final bill will include the meat of Tom Dashle's book. He covers the elderly with statements that in the older folks, there'll have to be decisions about withhold more expensive procedures in view of age, since pain medications might be more fitting. And who do you want making that decision? You and your Doctor? Or Some twit in D.C.?

The other choice is to allow the insurance companies to decide whether you or your child or parents can get medical care. Which group do I want? An impartial group (like a jury of your peers) or the company that makes more money by denying you the benefits.

Come on people. Some insurance coverage is better than none. How many of you have been denied coverage because of age, existing conditions, weight, family health history, etc. We are already paying for coverage for a lot of folks that do have problems and use county and state emergency rooms. If they can't pay for them the government picks up the bill. Then you and I pay for it anyway.

    Dr. Lamar Odom

Obviously you are one of the doctors who's been skimming Medicare for unneccessary procedures, and trying to protect your turf. You are also probably one of those doc-in-the box healthcare providers who will reap the windfall from this legislation. How many paid vacations, free samples, and kickbacks do you receive from pharmaceutical reps? You obviously have an agenda, while calling your critics names. I watch all networks and read all news sites, left and right, and can formulate my own opinions. The most successful physicians and surgeons don't like what they see going on in the healthcare reform, now called insurance reform. Wonder why the democrats changed the name? My opinions are with the majority, don't tread on me.

How much of the Obama rhetoric is made up? Hope the Congressman gets Obama to sit down and go over the bill line by line as Obama said he would do. Then the truth will be there for everyone to see, If Obama refuses to keep his word, that will be further evidence that all is not as he would have us believe.

New robo message from a group called TAXPAYERS FOR NO GOVERMENT HEALTH CARE. It not only wants to kill Obamas
public option but also the other goverment run health care ie:

Medicare, medicade, SSI, medicare disibility and vet health care.

these are all run by goverment also ,and this call said to stop these would bring down the deficit and tax burden.

So as I see it the right better watch what they wish for, they may get it from their own extreame right. IE Hannity , Limbaugh ECT.

Anybody with half a brain knows not to believe anything Sarah Palin says. She's just part of the mostly republican group of those paid off by healthcare companies and the like that want to keep healthcare EXACTLY the way it is – expensive, and keeping billions coming into their pockets. I'd check to see which companies gave money to SarahPac in order to get her to say the stuff she's been saying....

Just lies, lies, lies. . .makes you wonder what the moderates in the GOP will be left to do. . . .Third party ????

hey anti liberal, don;t talk to me about the bull of HSA's. I had the original MSA Archer, the precursor of the HSA. The theory was that with the buildup of money in a medical IRA, the patient would take more responsibilty for his care by negotiating with health care providers to get the lowest price. As a libertarian republican, I bought this market driven drivel hook line and sinker. Buying complex medical care and procedures and negotiating them is not like going to the Wal Mart and comparing their prices on orange juice to the nearest Safeway. It looks good in economic theory but in reality I was out of my league. We need to be covered just like our republican and democratic politicians are covered. Why don't you ask you local conservative BS artist politician about what kind of health insurance he gets via the US taxpayer. That would be a real eye opener

too all those saying read the bill, i've read the bill. I know that when a public option SETS its prices at below what private plans can do, private plans will eventually be phased out. that's what obama wants, that's what he's said no matter what political spin the White House puts on it.

That's like taking the post office and purposefully underpricing overnight packages at $3 anywhere around the world where UPS and FedEx can only do it for $13.

Once you do that you'll find two things:

1-taxpayers will be funding the post office to make up for the shortfall . .. hmmmm.

2- no one will use FedEx. Why would you pay more???

    THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE.
