Reliable Sources: War of health care YouTube Videos

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Health care occupied much of the airwaves on the Sunday morning talk shows, and conservatives criticized the Obama administration and Linda Douglass, Communications Director for the White House Office of Health Reform, for wading into a YouTube video war with a 42-year-old woman who posted a video on her Web site portraying Obama as a proponent of state sponsored health care.

"We have the right to correct the information," Douglass told Howard Kurtz Sunday on CNN's Reliable Sources. "There's a lot of effort to scare people, and what we've asked people do is, if they're worried about something they've heard, send in the information."

Some, including Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said it was not appropriate for Douglass to appear in a video asking the public to tip off the administration to information in the blogosphere that may not be in Obama's best interests.

One day after Pam Key's video was linked on under the headline "Uncovered Video: Obama Explains How His Health Care Plan Will Eliminate PRIVATE Insurance," the White House decided to take on Drudge and Key, posting it's own video featuring Douglass asking citizens to alert the administration regarding any "disinformation" with respect to health care legislation.

Douglass said the point of her video was to knock down rumors, not for the White House to keep tabs on individuals.

"We don't have a list. We're not keeping any of the sources of information. I mean, those are all crazy charges."

Douglass, a former congressional correspondent for ABC News, covered health care reform as a journalist in 1994 under the Clinton administration. She said the White House does not have any plans to stop refuting alleged rumors via the internet.

"They can look at some videos. We're going to have some fact sheets and we're going to make it possible for people to get the answers to the questions that they're seeking."

Kurtz asked Douglass, who left ABC News to join the administration, what it is like to be on the other side of the health care story.

"I had a longstanding interest in this. I feel very privileged to be able to work on this, " Douglass said. "I'm privileged to be able to help with this effort in his presidency. And it's a different stage in life, it's a different career, but I'm really gratified to be able to do it."

The scary part about what is going on seems similar to what we as American citizens were told how the Soviet Union KGB operated during the Cold War where neighbors and families were charged to "squeal" on anyone....

Has he also considered that it is not in the best interest of the state of Texas to have him moving around acting like he is representative for the state. The state of Texas can put forth a much more qualified person to represent a Life Form than this man. Besides, is this man qualified to represent the state of Texas? Has anyone seen his birth certificate? Can he prove that the certificate he might show is the original document and not just some document stating that he was born alive? I mean, a Certificate of Live Birth simply indicates that when a person was born, they were not born as zombies but as a live baby.

If its ok for people like Sen. Cornyn to lie, its ok for the Obama administration to refute. There is nothing inappropriate about wanting to know the newest lies so that they can be refuted.

When Obama says that our economy is being bankrupted by current health care costs, he's stating a fact and reform is the logical next move. Republican opposition has nothing to do with facts and figures; they have made it clear that they will oppose health care a) because they are whiners; b) because they have taken money from industry interest groups; c) because they can't let Obama have this victory.

I will be disappointed if Obama doesn't make real change somewhere in the health-care system with this legislation. And I am disappointed in Democrats who do not support the guy that got them their majority. Do they really want to go backwards?

    KGB anyone??

In my 46 years of life did I ever think I see big brother takeover the White House but this is as close as it gets. This makes Watergate look like nursery school. With Rahm Emanuel going around threatening and breaking arms and now the internet being monitored it really focuses on how the far-left of the Democratic party has taken over Washington. Billions of our tax dollars going to environmental goons and unions...our private market being threatened ...banks, cars, mortgages, insurance, energy and now healthcare. The news media is so far in the tank with the left and attacking the conservatives 3:1. This is not democracy. This is not the USA I want to be a part of. will not last. The farther left the DNC takes government the farther right the people will clock work.

The DNC again demonstrates how far out of mainstream they are. This is not the Soviet Union or Cuba. If they think they can intimidate people who disagree with their policies and get away with it they have another thing coming. They cannot take our freedom away from us. We will kick them out to the curb faster than they bought their way in.

So far I have not read this pending legislation. I am a Progressive. That said, I am not opposed to government run programs. However, due to lobbists, corrupt legislators, and insurance companies, I find it hard to thnk that this government will NOT hurt us in trying to appease Big Business. I also do not like what I am hearing about being taxed if I cannot afford to buy mandatory healthcare. Now how is robbing us of money going to help us get healthcare?

Ms. Douglass is doing the right thing to give the public access to accurate information about the health care bill. When you have someone like Sarah Palin's outlandish label of "death panel" thrown out there, people are naturally going to wonder what that's about - which Palin neither knows nor cares, as long as it frightens people so much they won't suppor this bill that our country needs so badly.
We need a resource for truthful information available to the public.

I am an independent because I don't buy-in the democrats or the republicans.Read the draft health care reform bill and decide for yourself. There is no disinformation there. This is a socialist plan period!!
It will be a one health care system sponsored by the government.
If the democrats are accusing the republicans of an orchestrated opposition fine with me. Just address the points and the concerns and stop diverting the attention to a political arm-wrestling.

Would Republican Senator Cornyn think it is more politically correct (appropriate) allowing LIES to go unchallenged? Come on, that is nonsense.

The administration has every right to clarify misinformatio and provide truth for the American people.

Barack is a liar and a thug.

A plan he has not even read.
A plan that hurts our elderly.
The dems are thieves. The Republicans spend as well.
