Palin urges restraint at town hall meetings

Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.
Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

(CNN) - Despite Sarah Palin's suggestion that President Obama's health care plan will institute "death panels" to evaluate elderly and disabled citizens - a claim that was quickly debunked - her latest message to the public is a bit more conciliatory.

Posting once again on her Facebook page - the former Alaska governor's recent soapbox of choice - Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

"There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment," Palin wrote.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, was presumably referring to reform critics who have shouted down members of Congress at several town halls around the country over the last week.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and a handful of other GOP leaders have defended the angry reaction at some of the forums.

"Such tactics diminish our nation's civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters' passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying," Palin wrote. "Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

I wish the news could just be reported. I could tell this writer does not like Palin right away. CNN has gone down hill.

SO let me understand this... she says that this "healthcare bill" will kill off her parents and her son... pretty much insinuating that it will be that way for everyone... and then she says pipe down like what she said should not be taken seriously... This is exactly what's wrong in this whole process, we can all choose to agree or disagree with what's being presented.. but you can't say things like this and expect people to be calm.....

The hypocrisy of this person is stunning. Every time she speaks she shows the world what an empty headed nit-wit she is.

I see a lot of internal division coming in this country, as if there isn't enough of it now, and health care is among them, but right now, the worst is yet to come and you can be rest assured it will be ugly, watch the streets!!!!!!!!!

The opponents of health care reform are people who resent the idea of paying taxes to support the uninsured and less fortunate. My wife and I cannot afford health insurance despite jobs that required college degrees. We work as hard as anyone but are able to just make ends meet and would welcome any assistance that the government could offer. I never see anything helpful offered by the far right, except loud criticism, name-calling, and inaccurate information. The idea of concentration camps for republicans who "speak their minds" and a policy of killing the elderly to save money is ridiculous but is believed by this minority. There are now web sites that advocate the killing of "liberals intent on destroying America" and there will be violence at these meetings if this behavior continues.

Oh, it's working. How many Democrats are scared silly about having to actually answer a tough question at a meeting where people are supposed to ask tough questions? I know people who have never raised their voice in public who got rowdy at one of these meetings. I was stunned but I understand where they are coming from. This legislation could literally be the difference between life and death for some Medicare participants and elderly people who understand that health care rationing would leave them with inadequate care.

TOP 3 POINTLESS COMMENTS RE: SARAH PALIN

    3) "Go Away Sarah!" – really? because there are absolutely no liberal personalities who get undeserved media attention? rev. al sharpton, anyone?

    2) "Sarah is Incomprehensible!" – really? we're going to make fun of somebody who is not completely eloquent? let's equate eloquence with being intelligent and moral....hitler anyone? i would like to see anybody on this forum be interviewed on national television and see how articulate their thoughts and handle their nerves.

    1) "Stop giving this woman headlines!" – really? because everyone else deserves headlines? britney spears? michael jackson? etc... I have an idea, why doesn't the media just report of people who you agree with...who can make you feel good about your delusions.

Palin says, ........"Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

I say, most of our government programs (Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans' Benefits, Social Security, etc.) are all NATIONALIZED) Healthcare, once transformed to include all citizens (Public Plan Option) will be a great thing.......I call that reason to celebrate.....

I say, Palin's writer is as out of the loop as she (Palin)......It's going to take more than her face and evil-catchy phrases to give her a seat at a relevant political table........Her base is fading.......

I say, ......FG Palin, have you tried truth lately?

So let me get this straight-after screaming all around the country during her "campaign" lies and innuendos about Barack Obama; after recently making remarks about Barack Obmama's Health Reform Plan as being Evil; this Ex-Governor would now like people to restrain themselves. When you deal in spinning Hatred to your troops-it's a little too late to pull them back in after that train has left the station. She continues to make NO sense. What a joke!

The GOP has no class. Their quitting leader Palin has realized that everytime she opens her ignorant mouth, hate and divisiveness arises. This lady is dispicable and should remove herself from public life COMPLETELY.

I think they are trolling for these angry people at trailer parks and Wal-Marts, offering them free doughnuts, getting them all hopped up on sugar and then turning them loose. Ignorant, inbred freaks, no wonder they are afraid of these "death panels", cuz none of them contribute a hoot to society and are just stealing other people's air.

I don't see how people can get so wrapped up in politics. Neither party has the american peoples interest at heart. The only time us common folk become important to the elite politicians is at election time. They will help out the unions and big corporations!!

"but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment,"

What a joke! Does Sarah mean the same tactics that she uses? To quote Ron Reagan on CNN this morning, "give her a red rubber ball for a nose and exploding shoes and she could work for Ringling Bros!" This woman is seriously a clown and any one who listens to the foul slop that she spews is as ignorant as she is. This woman is sickening!
