Palin urges restraint at town hall meetings

Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.
Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

(CNN) - Despite Sarah Palin's suggestion that President Obama's health care plan will institute "death panels" to evaluate elderly and disabled citizens - a claim that was quickly debunked - her latest message to the public is a bit more conciliatory.

Posting once again on her Facebook page - the former Alaska governor's recent soapbox of choice - Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

"There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment," Palin wrote.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, was presumably referring to reform critics who have shouted down members of Congress at several town halls around the country over the last week.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and a handful of other GOP leaders have defended the angry reaction at some of the forums.

"Such tactics diminish our nation's civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters' passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying," Palin wrote. "Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

Oh, she wants restraint after telling people that Obama's plan is evil and that his healthcare would kill her baby and old people? What an idiot this woman is, and the people who support her are even bigger idiots. Why do you keep putting her crap on here CNN? Mind you, it makes no difference to me. If there is anyone I would love to be the Republican nominee in 2012, its her.

    Debunked?!?!?! OF COURSE!!!

Sarah Palin offering Pres. Obama advice on health care is like Britney Spears giving Tony Bennett advice on singing.

Yeah that means so much after you tell people the flat out lie that Obama is trying to kill your baby and mother..smh. The even sadder part is that people really believe her. The even more sadder part is while they're screaming about gov't rationing health care they should look around at the insurance companies already doing exactly that!!

Good for you Sarah, so far you are the only one with enough sense to say this, even though you added your own fuel to the fire of false rumors about the healthcare bill containing euthanasia. Pls try to read the bill and correct your statements. Its just irresponsible to spread such erroneous rumors.

Too late, Sarah. You alone give us plenty of reason to criticize your party. Just what in this bill will hurt you? You will still get your disability payments for Trig, you will still get your insurance from your state plan, you and all the children will get your socialistic oil revenue checks. Are we to believe that you are actually concerned about anyone else? Please, share some of that terrifying 'fine print' with us...and give us another example of your lying.

    "any reason to criticize us"

I really don't need a reason... but lets start with spending $ 1 trillion in Iraq (over $ 33,000 for every Iraqi man, woman, and child) yet somehow it is "just too expensive" to have healthcare for every American.

    "diminish our nation's civil discourse"

You have been doing that from the beginning Sarah... it really started with you claiming foreign policy credentials because Russia is next to Alaska (as if Alaska can somehow negotiate foreign treaties for the United States) which is the country Alaska is a part of (despite what your husbands friends think).

Unless Ms. Palin can cite what passage or page of the bill creates death panels, this is fear mongering worthy of a demagogue.

I think Palin is trying to sound intelligent after her stupidly-written facebook claim that American's might succumb to death panels.

    She's a real nut-job.

Palin should show some restraint with her silly remarks about "Death Panels". This will only cause panic and confusion, but when you want to defeat something in politics that is the method of choice. You scare people into siding with you.

  17. CNN stands next to FOX NOISE for bad news

Well CNN you just keep promoting her and the republican/insurance companys crap instead of telling the truth. That seems to be your goal in the news business now... To keep sturing the pot, to keep everything and every one at each others throat so you have something to talk about. You could do us all a favor and give the real story on what the health care bill is... But I think you'd rather push for fights and yelling and screaming at town hall meetings..

SARAH, I'M CALLING YOU OUT: You didn't actually write that, did you? It makes too much sense! Complex sentence structures are not your style and who can believe a phrase like "conscientious voters' passion" (complete with correct punctuation) would ever come out of you? Come on, your ghost writer needs to do better than that!

Urges restraint after lying and saying the health care bill includes "Death Panels" that will kill her baby. You can't take the high road if you don't know where it is, Sarah.

You all can shout as loud as you’d like but the reality is still the same. People with full benefits are taking the risk to get things done outside of the USA. Why you ask? Because healthcare in the USA is too expensive. 1 million in 2008 alone and counting did MEDICAL TOURISM abroad for different procedure to be done. Example heart valve replacement in the USA is about $200k. With insurance, after deductibles and co-pay you’ll still have about $30-40k out of pocket to pay. Simple math, same procedure in India is $10k everything included. $10k and someone didn’t involve their health insurance; yes people are taking the risk for affordable healthcare.
