Palin urges restraint at town hall meetings

Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

(CNN) - Despite Sarah Palin's suggestion that President Obama's health care plan will institute "death panels" to evaluate elderly and disabled citizens - a claim that was quickly debunked - her latest message to the public is a bit more conciliatory.

Posting once again on her Facebook page - the former Alaska governor's recent soapbox of choice - Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

"There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment," Palin wrote.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, was presumably referring to reform critics who have shouted down members of Congress at several town halls around the country over the last week.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and a handful of other GOP leaders have defended the angry reaction at some of the forums.

"Such tactics diminish our nation's civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters' passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying," Palin wrote. "Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

Everywhere I look (other than THIS ARTICLE) Palin spoke of a singular "death panel," which sounds exactly like Obama's proposed oversight committee (or whatever he calls it). In which case, Palin is right – there will be a panel (or committee) and they will decide how much care is too much care for subgroups of citizens.

Where did the truth go? What's wrong with the truth? Why are the lies necessary? Why is even the press now in on it?

Doesn't Palin do enough on her own without the press having to make stuff up?

This is comparable to Palin telling all her supporters to read books before she orders the books to be banned or burned. Oh that's right, she's already recommended that totally irrational motion!!!

What a two-faced person. Inciting violence on the one hand, then claiming to rise above it on the other. She's a private citizen now, and should be ignored as such.

As always Sarah is asked to step forward and speak for the GOP and the angry who are simple ignored and shunned by the media. The people who Obama treats as unimportant and who he views, and so too the Democratic party, as people he does not represent. Why is that, because when Sarah speaks people listen! The GOP is the bad guy, good for us. Because when it all goes really bad the people are going to be looking to the GOP. When the smell of the division that the democrats have orchestrated comes home to roost, not even hollywood will stand the flames.

I think I'm going to be sick!!! Sarah speaks out of both sides of her mouth. She criticizes Obama and gets her fans all fired up and now she wants them to be civil.

Why does this proven unintelligent female get so much press? Because she's a former beauty queen! Wake up America. She has nothing to offer this country except hot air and hot legs. Not exactly the formula to handle the extremely difficult issues we face.

So I guess Palin's death panels comments need to be walked back considering that last year the Federal Government had to step in to help the State with it's healthcare as 227 elderly Alaskans literally died while waiting to be re-evaluated by Alaskan doctors. Meanwhile Palin did nothing.

So, quitter on twitter really does know quite a bit about death panels since she was the only governor in the Union to actually have them.

So true, we have enough already Sarah. I can't imagine having to add to the list! There isn't enough room. We would need a book for that!

First, Palin inflames with her lies (ie comments re euthanasia), dragging her family, mother and daughter, into the fray, then tries to trick people into believing she is calm, rational, and reasonable. Next she will complain again about her family being victems of the press! If a politician does not want their families brought into the story, don't bring them in first yourself. She is a total idiot and not worth the attention the press gives her.

After doing her best to stir up angry mobs of stupid people with ludicrous lies, she's now appealing for calm? Republicans have truly entered the toilet with this one, and she is the attendant.

This is unbelievable - Sarah Palin comes out and feeds the fans of the current right wing crazies and now comes back and says they need to tone it down - Sarah either you go all the way in or stay out - you can't have it both ways, which is exactly what you are trying to do - she like her right wing predecessors in the past administration, as well as many sitting senators and congressmen, do nothing but complain, tell the rest of us how we should believe and, most amazingly, complain that every ill in the this country is the fault of President Obama, Its time for this woman and all her cronies to stop complaining about everything and start stepping up to the plate and being proactive - you created these crazy, uneducated mobs of white people (I am white by the way) - its time you indeed told them to sit down and shut the heck up, unless they want a discussion instead of a screaming match - it is pathetic and embarassing as an American to see these people in action - perhaps you should all get together in Alaska and create your own nation and leave the rest of America to us.
