Palin urges restraint at town hall meetings

Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.
Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

(CNN) - Despite Sarah Palin's suggestion that President Obama's health care plan will institute "death panels" to evaluate elderly and disabled citizens - a claim that was quickly debunked - her latest message to the public is a bit more conciliatory.

Posting once again on her Facebook page - the former Alaska governor's recent soapbox of choice - Palin on Sunday called on critics of the health care plan to turn down the volume.

"There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment," Palin wrote.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, was presumably referring to reform critics who have shouted down members of Congress at several town halls around the country over the last week.

House Minority Leader John Boehner and a handful of other GOP leaders have defended the angry reaction at some of the forums.

"Such tactics diminish our nation's civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters' passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying," Palin wrote. "Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

Fascinating. Palin recently refered to Obama's "death councils" or something like that, now she is calling for restraint? Come on Sarah, how abour restraining yourself first? Comments like those you made are part of what is enflaming these nutwings in the first place.

This is obviously written by a ghost writer. Both the content and coherency are not consistent with anything written or spoken by Palin.

That's Ms. Palin, for ya, you bet!

Describe health care reform one day as "EVIL" and blather on the next about being well-behaved, good Americans.

    What a moron.

She certainly wants the attention of the 'ugly' media for the 'lies' they spread. Why does anyone care what she says?!

CNN, again, the bias in your reporting is incredible. A former governor of one of politically equal 50 federal states has posted on facebook, and you call it a soapbox? Do you similarly slight Al Gore's gripes on global warming via film? Or the Administration's collection of email addresses and names of those that express opinions about health care and use of the Web to further its positions? Your tactics help to belittle a former public official but do not help anyone consider something Palin might say that is a valid point: whether the effect of public health care rationing or the way that protests at health care rallies help or hinder the political progress. Way to detract from any sort of message by demonizing a person and citizen.

Can I nominate Palin to stand tall before the Man like the elderly apparently will? Why won't she go away? She is not smart, and for that reason alone she should not be allowed to be a public servant.

This from the woman who last year accused then-candidate Obama of "palling around with terrorists" and smiled smugly when attendees at her rallies yelled "Kill him!"

What a narcissitic hypocrit! How anyone can support her is beyond me (and makes me very worried about the naivete and stupidity of some of our citizens).

President Obama himself said that end of life decisions are going to be among the hardest decisions they will have to make. If it will be a hard decision to make, that means that some one is going to make them, and that is what people do NOT want. So, CNN, how can you say that the "death panel" remark was quickly debunked? Hey CNN, how about sticking to reporting the news and leave the bias to FOX.

Americans, democrat and republican, are against a government takeover of healthcare. They need to focus on JOBS. This plan will bankrupt our country. When the government can demonstrate a restrained budget....you know...not giving away money, buys jets, handing over billions to special interest groups....then I might trust them to run healthcare. Right now it's more like the KGB and we're fighting to keep socialism from taking over. It's a scary, scary time in this country.

What right have you to say turn down the volume after what you said that the health care plan will institute death panels. This is about the evil thing that you can say. You and Boehner and other Gop leaders are the ones who started all this mess. You are the ones that are sending peoplke out their to hollar and shout and Sarah you and your republicans are the ones who are a embarrasment to this nation.

As usual, Republicans urge restraint, and democrats fuel violence.

The democrats love dividing this nation and watching us fight amongst each other.

One of the main reasons they claimed falsely that the Iraq War was some kind of conspiracy, because the majority of Americans supported it, and then President Bush and they wouldn't stand a chance in an election if everyone was united.

    The democrats are completely corrupt.

Every time I hear or read something about Palin it seems she's blaming someone for something or backpedaling from a previous statement..
I wish you guys at CNN would wait a week before reporting anything Sarah says, it would save alot of time and space..

And, by the way, Conservative Republicans wouldn't vote for any kind of reasonable health care reform, even if Jesus Christ himself came down to earth and supported it, because Jesus isn't a Conservative Republican!!!
