WASHINGTON (CNN) – A bare majority of Americans have a favorable view of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Tuesday.

Fifty-one percent hold a favorable view of the longtime senator while 35 percent have an unfavorable view.

"Three-quarters of Democrats have a favorable view of Kennedy, but two-thirds of Republicans have an unfavorable view of him," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "He is most popular in the Northeast and least popular in the South."

The survey of 1,136 adult Americans conducted by telephone on July 31-August 3, 2009 and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
Kennedy's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, died early Tuesday morning. He has been absent for much of the 111th Congress, because he is battling brain cancer.

Who cares about Sen. Kennedy? He did his foolish act supporting Mr. Obama so now he would better retire.

Who really cares? He has been in office longer than I've been alive and I am 42 yrs old. Term limits should have been written into the Constitution. These people think they are gods! Only we can give them the Boot!

  5. I want Gov. Ins Option

I respect the man. He has been correct on many things ahead of his time. He was one of the lone voices that said we should not invade Iraq and history show us he was absolutely right. Had we listened to him we would not be trillions in debt and we would not have lost over 4,000 American's lives with tens of thousands others harmed for life. I would love to see him live another decade. I, as a health care provider and an American want a single payer, government health plan. I would love what Canada has. Futher more I am sick of hearing people bash the government. I trust the government a he!! of a lot more than ANY insurance company. As far as I am concerned you can send every Ins. exec. to the front lines of any war zone and save American youth.
