WASHINGTON (CNN) – Americans appear to be souring on Sarah Palin, according to a new national poll.
Thirty-nine percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday have a favorable opinion of the former Alaska governor and last year's Republican vice presidential nominee. That's down seven points from a poll conducted in May, and it's also nine points lower than the 48 percent who now say they now view Palin unfavorably. Forty-three percent viewed Palin negatively in May.
"Most of that change has come among Republicans and conservatives," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "GOP voters still like Palin - two-thirds continue to have a favorable view of her - but she is not as wildly popular among GOPers as she was in the spring, when eight in ten Republicans had a favorable view of her."
It's unclear if the drop in Palin's rating is due to her resignation as Alaska governor, a year and a half before her first term ends, or if anything else she has done is contributing to the dip in her numbers. The poll was conducted July 31 through August 3, before national coverage of Palin's stinging criticism of President Barack Obama's health care reform proposals.
Palin is considered one a number of Republicans who may want to make a bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.
"A 39 percent favorable rating makes it that much tougher for Palin to become president should she decide to run in 2012. Her favorable rating is almost identical to the numbers that former vice president Dan Quayle got just after leaving office in 1993," says Holland.
Quayle formally declared himself a presidential candidate in 1994 but withdrew from the race in 1995.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted by telephone, with 1,136 people questioned. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points for the overall sample and plus or minus 6.5 percentage points for the questions of Republican respondents.

If you are using a CNN pole to judge how Palin is doing, you are always going to get a skewed vote, Normal people don't listen to or view CNN. If Fox takes a pole it will be 180 degrees.
Why doesn't CNN investigate how Dingle supportors held up a natzi symbol saying Obama is a natzi. Then went and passed out info pro Obama. Hard to believe, the poor dem's would do such a thing, particularly since Obama's press conferences and community meetings are stacked with supporters. that has been proved in the past by other news stations other than Fox.
PALIN IS HONEST, that scares the hell out of the left, and some onthe right, because honesty in Washinton is not a pre-requisite to be a federal government official. Even at very top.
Palin loses 8 points in popularity and it's a " dip " ....President Obama loses one point and it's a " plummet " ....funny how you can create and shape the news .....huh CNN ??

If Sarah Palin wants to be taken seriously, she needs to stop her incendiary comments and discuss issues intelligently. It's hardly "presidential" – or even responsible – to lie about one of the possible health care reform bills and refer to "death panels" that don't exist. Personally, I think she's hoping to be the next radio shock-jock a la Rush Limbaugh; it makes sense with her sensationalist and whining nature – and it pays a heck of a lot more than the presidency!
This woman isn't going away anytime soon. ALL of this analyzing and debating is pretty much pointless right now. It is too early in the game. BUT, if Palin plays her hand right, and President Obama REALLY messes things up, she has a sure shot at the Presidency.
And if she chooses someone like Mitt Romney to run along side of her, the Obama Administration is in trouble.
Perhaps we should remind the media, that a favorable view of politicians in general, and congress specifically, is dipping to the bottom of the barrel.
People don't like her because she's a quitter and can only deliver one type of speech. And that one type is usually misleading and given with the tone of a snarky and sarcastic high school kid trying to make Student Council President.

The main reason that it keeps dropping is that she keeps opening her mouth and making idiotic comments. I am certainly no fan of hers but I do believe that if she would think about things before she opens her mouth she would have a lot less detractors. While it may be possible that she is more intelligent than she appears her image continues to suffer due mainly for her penchant for opening her mouth and exercising her vocal cords.
Palin is NOT concerned whether her children have health care coverage.. like President Obama is trying to get for everyone who wants the coverage...she is concerned with death squads she says.. who are going to kill the old people... she is strange...
