Feds to tour Michigan prison where Gitmo detainees could go

The prison in Standish, Michigan, is slated for closure but would stay open if Guantanamo detainees are sent there.

The prison in Standish, Michigan, is slated for closure but would stay open if Guantanamo detainees are sent there.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Federal officials will travel to Standish, Michigan, on Thursday to tour a state prison that could be used to house terror suspects detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, U.S. government officials said Wednesday.

Among those who will check out the facility, the officials said, will be representatives from the departments of Defense and Homeland Security, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Prisons.

One administration official stressed no decision has been made about where to relocate Guantanamo detainees. Multiple options are under consideration. That official added Thursday's visit is simply to gather information about the prison.

Considering that this is where Micheal Moore double chin libs reside, don't put it past these libs to try and find a way to break these guys out. For 8 years these terrorists were considered allies to the Moore-ons, many may want to help them out. I put my life on the fact that a majority of these libs would much rather harm Sarah Palin and other law abiding conservative families in America, than these jihadists.

Why not send them to Attica or Folson. Send them to a hardcore prison.

where's all the outrage for the uni-bomber?? where's all the outrage for the Oklahoma city bombers?!?! oh that's right... the "righties" don't see them as terrorists. I'm pretty sure a supermax prison could hold gitmo detainees just as they hold our own lovely examples of human decency. Or you could continue listening to Rush, Hannity, O'reilly and Beck and live every single day of your life in FEAR! As i see it life is too short and precious to be scared and retarded all the time! When did common sense become a feaupau? Must have missed that memo!!!

People who are against moving the gitmo detainees to the mainland need to think for a moment - Placing them in prisons that are in danger of closing can create jobs and revenue for many of these cash-strapped areas, particularly in the mid-west, where so many jobs have gone to foreign countries. People really need to get out of their bubbles and THINK!

Let's form a Save Gitmo organization. We can recruit Maddow and Olberman and Matthews and Shultz as our Board of Directors. Whoops sorry...these are the guys who want it closed. Ok new idea. Lets' move them to half way houses a few doors down from where these morons live.

Gitmo is the best place for the terrorists...stop the nonsense.

Wow, looks like Republicans are the smoke and mirrors. So afraid of a few hundred terrorists to be housed in prisons that suprise suprise actually already holds numerous terrorists.

What a bunch of cowards. You cry for your second amendment but are afraid to keep these guys in our prisons. I guess that gun is just for show, deep down inside your just a scared little boy who is all bark and no bite.

But hey, these are also the same people who are deathly afraid of one man: Obama.

Oh why not...the terrorists are getting free room and board along with health care and dental at our expense anyway. And just think what with the nation largest Muslim population in Dearborn, the terrorists I'm sure would soon sue for mailing and visitation rights and the courts will give it to them which will allow them to spread their hate to others, it won't be easy for them to do but they will.

How about we hire Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa counry, Arizona to handle these gitmo inmates. Between the pink underwear, bologna, tents in the desert, and Disney channel. He'll break 'em! If we have to move them, send them to the Sheriff! There are living better than our homeless vets! Pitiful!

Any time anyone uses the same old, tired, uneducated, catch all key words inspired by America hating folks on the right or left, it leads me to believe that their posts have no credibility whatsoever and I need read no further than the first key word.

What is the problem here? Everyone wants the terrorists to be captured it is what to do with them after the fact that has them dumbfounded. We in the US are all so ready to say what should be done but in reality we don’t have a single clue on what will happen after the fact. You can’t keep them in prison forever, they don’t belong in Cuba. They are not Cuba’s problem, they are ours.

Our government should have thought things through before acting with a knee jerk reaction in the first place. Maybe we wouldn’t be in the fix we are today because of it.

Why can't they stay in Gitmo forever? They are prisoners of war. Plain and simple. What will they be charged with? This just makes absolutely no sense. Why on earth would we want these haters of America on our soil? So very naive...

This administration is sooo frustruating. I don't go to meetings and yell but I totally understand why people do because the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress are not listening to us at all! We don't want Gitmo Detainees brought to US territory! I repeat we do not want Gitmo Detainees brought to US territory!

As for healthcare reform, if you want people to stop yelling, then you need to start listening. I don't belong to either party, nor a union, nor a special interest group but honestly I agree with the people yelling and am glad they are expressing my opinions strongly because most of these town hall meetings occur far from where I live and during times when I have to work. GO YELLERS GO!!!!

The "Not in my backyard" fools kill me!!! We've housed serial killers, cannibals, mass murderers, psychopaths, rapists, and child molesters within our borders. You chicken turds are scared of a lil' old terrorist in a maximum security prison, cell-locked 23 out 24/7, but you lived for EIGHT years with Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and The Shrub running amok with our finances and liberties, and killing as many of our sons and daughters as they could in Iraq.

Get real. And get a grip.

Put 'em in Michigan – they would be about the only ones left in that state.

Maybe the UAW could sign 'em up as union members since most of their American members are unemployed.

Why not start building nuclear plants and then ship the nuclear waste to Michigan also – maybe right next to the prison..... 2 pluses for America: 1 – America gets cheap clean energy and 2 – Michigan becomes a better state to live in...:)

Any intelligent person would realize that if the right wingers are against it then its probably a pretty good idea. The last thing they want is our black president to have a good idea as people might actually think the all-white boys club has been a monumental failure.

Isn't there a large Muslim population in Michigan? Great Idea, bring the people that hate America to our soil and interact with gang members and other criminals! Maybe we could by them a home and heck, what about a Hummer through the Cash for Clunker program. Does our congress share the same brain?
