Obama's political arm release new health care video

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Obama's political operation released a new Web video Friday highlighting the story of a cancer patient whose insurance coverage was taken away after she was diagnosed with the disease.

The two-minute video, produced by Organizing for America, criticizes the insurance industry's practice of rescission - "a policy of retroactively canceling health insurance after a patient becomes ill." The video shows the story of Robin Beaton, a retired nurse from Waxahachie, Texas, who was told days before her scheduled double mastectomy to remove cancerous tumors that her insurance plan had dropped her coverage.

OFA released the video in advance of Obama's health care town hall meeting in Montana where he will talk about the issue of rescission.

Why does the president need to employ a small army of community organizers? Between his staffers, the DNC and the fawning media doesn't he have enough publicity? It's kind of scary that he keeps a small army of "community organizer" thugs on retainer, isn't it?

President Obama, I hope this is your last town hall meeting. They are a waste of time. A fellow New Yorker made an excellent suggestion yesterday, allow me to second it: take a page from the Shrub and just pass the reform in it's most effective form. You will not get buy-in from the lunatics on the right fringe. The RepthugliKlans will NOT support you as they are so threatened by everything you've thus far accomplished, so forget them too. Your own Party is composed by mostly pussies in government, many of who are on 'the take' and in cohoots with the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. The only people that realize that all you're doing is FULFILLING a major campaign promise (what a novel idea!) are those of us that voted for you. You therefore have our support, and full approval to establish yourself as head honcho in charge when the rest of the village is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Evidently you've given us too much credit because we don't know a good thing when it's placed right in front of us. We need you to take the reins and lead, some of these nuts do not know the way.

Our Nation is the only developed Nation with 47 Millions of its own citizen without Health Care, and yet every house in this Nation is insured by law, every car in this Nation is insured by law.

  5. Thank You President Obama!

It's nice to have a democracy for a change where people's voices can be heard and our President keeps us informed. It's a complete change from the last 8 nightmarish years. Reform is needed and republicans better hope they never get sick and have no insurance.

  6. FORMER republicans, NEVER again!

This is one of the MANY reasons I left the republican party, their followers are illogical and I believe border on insane. They propagate lies continuously. They oppose everything that would help ordinary citizens. They are for the rich only. Reform is sorely needed, what is the republican plan????

This uprising isn't just about health care. It is about the American people REJECTING a Marxist President and his attempts to derail this country with his destructive agenda. IMPEACH OBAMA NOW!

President Obama's political operation? Are we ok with this? It doesn't sound right.

Anyway, some lady gets screwed over by her insurance and somehow we should have a public option? I don't think so.

Tell us who the insurance company was. Then Americans can decide who they want insuring them. If this company did this, maybe people will think twice about buying the insurance

It's called a free market for a reason. You know who doesn't compete in a free market? Medicare and Medicaid.

Well if there is a problem with the insurance industry then regulate it. But don't be putting health care for all on my tax plate. I'm taxed enough.

Wish we could have had town halls about the war, deregulation, Patriot Act, tarp, bank bailouts……but the republicans didn't care what we thought.

Is this the Democratic party of our forefathers?
Kennedy, Truman, Roosevelt? I THINK NOT!

People should stop and read the legislation.
People should query citizens of Canada and the UK.

Yes, the system needs some work, but it doesn't need to be overhauled. we seem to be forgetting that we have the best healthcare system in the world. Also, that figure of 47 million that are uninsured is very misleading. Many of these people CHOOSE not to be insured. They are young people who are healthy enough they are willing to take the chance, or wealthy people that can afford to pay themselves. Also, the vast majority of Americans are happy with their healthcare. We don't need to have the government take over.

Although Pres. Obama's "stay cool and let them make fools of themselves" strategy has worked so far (economic crisis, pirate hostage, pandemic research), I don't think it will be enough this time around. Every second we are bombarded with disinformation from FOX News, talking points from right wing pundits on other networks, polls indicating wavering support, and footage of loud, determined (albeit misinformed) protestors.

A web video now and again is nice, but it does little to fill the void left by Obama's deafening silence.

All these people screaming that he's doing too much would be complaining if he took it easy like Bush did. Give Obama a chance, don't punish him because he's ambitious.

Someone needs to try and make people realize they are being used by swallowing all the propoganda, lies spouted by big business,
special interests and those supporting them
They have had complete control over our health for too many years and have let greed and power take place of integrity and quality
of care. We pay the highest health care costs in the world yet rank
37th in care and performance. Thousands upon thousands have to file bankruptcy due to medical costs many who had insurance, and
an additional thousands upon thousands are having their insurance cancelled or denied coverage.
We cannot allow or tolerate big business, lobbyists, special interests and those in their pockets continue to run our country and make crucial decisions on our welfare.
Wake up people. Do not let misguided information override the
    facts.
Health care reform is critical for us and our country. There will be amendments, ideas added, discarded and much thought and
time spent before final reform is passed. Give it a chance.

Sadly, there are so many stories like this out there that the right-wing extremists don't want you to focus on or hear. They would rather try to scare you with their talking points (ie, death panels, no right to see your own doctor, taxpayers paying for abortions, blah blah blah) than actually showing you the human face and reality of how the current system fails so many in this country.

I don't know how someone can call themselves a christian or person of moral standing while at the same time say that our health system is fine and doesn't need fixing. Like so many things coming out of the right wing of this country, it's hypocrisy.

We have hardworking, decent people in this country like the lady in this story above whose example serves to remind us that this nation is failing its own when it comes to health care.

There has been nothing coming from the right which is worth paying attention to for so long now that it is hard to take anything they say seriously.

Reform is needed but not the liberal democrats and Pesident Obama's planned program which is the first step toward a single payer system which Obama said could take 5, 10, 15, 20 years to get but that is what he wanted America to get to. Also who is going to pay for this program? Maybe everybody in America should pay 55% taxes including taking it out of the poor, unemployed and welfare checks to pay for this. It is going to take alot more than 1.5 billion dollars over 10 years to get everyone the same health care that the elitist in Congress and the White House have for every American not counting the legal immigrants and if the dems have their way the illegal immigrants.

We know one thing it cost alot of money since Obama slings that cash around like he is in a game of monopoly. Whether there is any truth to the video is suspect since half of what Obama says are outright lies. No doubt he will be talking at the Town Hall meeting – he has that part gig down pat..Just the governing part he has issues..

I just read elsewhere that Blue Cross of Michigan applied to raise their rates 41% to 56% and that the state insurance regulators capped it at 22%!

Talk about nerve!! Right in the middle of all this they brazonely try to up rates as much as 56%!!! WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU ABOUT THE PRIVATE, FOR-PROFIT, HUGE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES!!!

The ironic thing about the arguments that opponents of health care reform are constantly using, "it will cost too much," "the government can't run anything right," is that hese are the very same people that fly the flag on their houses and vehicles every time a Republican President sends us to a government run, taxpayer funded war against some inept, third world country that poses no significant threat to us.

Many of the people that are disrupting and shouting down these town hall meetings would absolutely love it if a Republican Presindent were to decide to bomb, invade, and occupy Iran, North Korea, and Cuba. These people would be perfectly happy to have their Federal tax dollars spent on government run wars.
