Tom DeLay trades political stage for the real thing

Tom DeLay trades the national stage for the real thing later this month.
Tom DeLay trades the national stage for the real thing later this month.

(CNN) -
Political observers know former House Majority Leader Tom "The Hammer" DeLay can have a heavy hand - the question is, can he be light on his feet?

They'll find out later this month. The Texas Republican, who left Congress in 2006 amid controversy, will appear on this season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, joining celebrities like Mya, Macy Gray, Aaron Carter, Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart, Kelly Osbourne, Donny Osmond, Chuck Liddell and Michael Irvin, among others.

DeLay, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving the House, is president of a political consulting firm with offices in both Houston and the nation's capital. His turn on DWTS begins next week.

Ironic; I was only recently thinking about where the "GOP mouth" has been during and since Obama was elected, and now during the health reform planning? Shouldn't have thunk about him, but anyway, he will get my vote.....OFF DWTS!

  9. Post always rejected by CNN

IF you are the dirtiest politician going and can get out of being prosecuted for your crimes you have to be a republican.....then all you have to do is ask for TV coverage and a job on TV and ZAM BOP BAM you got it..

Look at the crook gingrich who resigned because of his questionable deeds. His face is appearing all over the place. Now we have Mr. Dirty himself and he gets a job as commentator. And the country wants to know why lies and crap is being spewed all over the place....Since the republicans own practically ALL NEWSPAPERS, ALL RADIO AND ALL TV AND CABLE CHANNELS they are at it 24/7.

Who says we don't need the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE. Who paid the Democrats to drop the project?????????

Now there's a show I'll never watch! In fact, you might as well cancel it. Unless he has to dance with Michael Vick?

  14. carlos, that one

CNN is so kind saying: "The Texas Republican, who left Congress in 2006 amid controversy".

My question is: Why corrupt such a nice competitive show?

I think this is going to be a fun season to watch. I think he's got a lot of guts to get out there and have some fun.

  16. GOPer

That is hilarious. As much as GOPers love to hypocritically "hammer" celebrity, they sure are drawn to Hollywood status and making themselves *Stars*. Another Tucker Carlson. LOL

This won't help Tom Delay. He's still a scumbag, with or without dancing shoes.

Ewwww! What on earth was Dancing with the Stars thinking? Obviously they weren't. with all the wonderful politicians among us, both Republican and Democrat, the producers made a huge faux pax on this one! I love Dancing with the Stars but will not watch Tom DeLay this season.

Why isn't Tom De Lay IN JAIL (where he belongs)? Isn't he still under indictment for all his illegal shenanigans with lobbyists?

So "the Hammer" now joins the ranks of Denise Richards, Li'l Kim and other third rank celebrities! Here's hoping he gets knocked out of the competiton by a former boxer or pro football player!

This guy is one of those folks who narrowly avoided jail by cutting a deal with the FBI. He was once the star of the Republican party.
