Tom DeLay trades political stage for the real thing

Tom DeLay trades the national stage for the real thing later this month.
Tom DeLay trades the national stage for the real thing later this month.

(CNN) -
Political observers know former House Majority Leader Tom "The Hammer" DeLay can have a heavy hand - the question is, can he be light on his feet?

They'll find out later this month. The Texas Republican, who left Congress in 2006 amid controversy, will appear on this season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, joining celebrities like Mya, Macy Gray, Aaron Carter, Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart, Kelly Osbourne, Donny Osmond, Chuck Liddell and Michael Irvin, among others.

DeLay, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving the House, is president of a political consulting firm with offices in both Houston and the nation's capital. His turn on DWTS begins next week.

  1. Joe in CT - not Lieberman!!!

So "the Hammer" now joins the ranks of Denise Richards, Li'l Kim and other third rank celebrities! Here's hoping he gets knocked out of the competiton by a former boxer or pro football player!

  2. ATL Guy

This guy is one of those folks who narrowly avoided jail by cutting a deal with the FBI. He was once the star of the Republican party.

I think it is great that Senator DeLay is partaking in DWTS. It's neat that the show attracts celebrities from essentially every mainstream medium, from singers to sports pros to Senators. Way to go Tom DeLay!

Tom? When you get to your accomodations at the studios, don't unpack your suitcase. You're not going to be there very long.

    new show..."dancing with a criminal"

"Keeping a low profile since leaving the house"...
    anddddd.....Why would that be CNN?
Did he just not run for election again and retire from office?
    Or did he resign?
    Big difference between "leaving"
and being pressued to get out.... amidst allegation and being investigated for CRIMES!!
    don't you think CNN???

Where have all the journalists gone??

Tom Delay on Dancing With The Stars? Now I've seen it all...in the land where people who can't even fit in an airplane seat bring three course fast food meals on an airplane, Octomom is a celebrity victim and the world waits to see if Kate Gosselin and Jennifer Anniston will ever find love again.

I see being a convicted criminal helps get you a job. This is worse than the NFL allowing Vick to play. ABC is banned from my house.

"Now tell me the truth, boys, is this kind of fun?” – DeLay to homeless kids after Katrina

Only on ABC, the same network that wanted to put Rush Limbaugh covering football, and greenlit a movie blaming Clinton for 9-11.

DeLay will probably be good. He always danced around the truth when he was in Congress.

    Loser.

Who really cares what Delay is doing – I only care that he's out of our government – that's all that matters.

I absolutely refuse to believe that CNN is running this on the Political Ticker, but judging by the dope smokers responses to this, news of Sarah Palin and Mark Sanford, I guess the are appealing to their viewers and watchers level of intellect.

Tom Delay dances while the American Empire sinks in its own cesspool faster than Rome ever could.

Of course politicians can dance! They do it all the time avoiding giving direct answers to simple questions.

Sounds like someone in the live audience (or crew) is going to have a dandy 2nd amendment opportunity. Lock and load, it's DeLay time!
