WASHINGTON (CNN) – Three new national polls released over the past 24 hours indicate that just over half of all Americans approve of how President Obama's handling his job.

Fifty-one percent of people questioned in an NBC News survey released Tuesday night, in a Pew Research Center poll released Wednesday morning, and in the Gallup daily tracking poll released Wednesday afternoon approve of how Obama is handling his duties in the White House.
The president's disapproval rating stands at 37 percent in the Pew poll, 40 percent in the NBC News survey and 41 percent in the Gallup daily tracking poll, and

The 51 percent approval rating is down from an average of 54 percent at the end of July in a CNN Poll of Polls and down from an average of 61 percent in a CNN Poll of Polls from late June. The CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the most recent national surveys.

The Gallup daily tracking poll was conducted August 16-18, with approximately 1,600 people questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The NBC News poll was conducted August 15-17, with 805 adults questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The Pew Research Center poll was conducted August 11-17, with 2,010 people questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Polls are useless unless you know the reason people vote the way they do.

Even Palin is at 39% while the congressional party of "No!" racks up an approval rating of 21%. And they think they will make a lot of gains in the midterms?

There's no way he's going up from here. He may be able to squeeze out a second term but it will be very close.

Not surprising that Obama's approval rate has gone down with all the problems (lies, lies and more lies from the Republicans) that he has been facing on the health care reform front. But what about other issues? He is doing just fine on most problems this country was confronted with. Sure, jobs haven't bounced back, but they will. At least he has pulled us back from going off a cliff. And regardless of how far down Obama's popularity dips, it will never reach that of the Republicans. They don't seem to be "bouncing" up even though Obama is going down. What does that say about the Republicans?? They have no reason to rejoice at Obama's approval rating dipping, that's for sure. Let them grovel, they are a bunch of slobbering hogs after all.

His rating would be higher if Fox News would tell the truth. Them and their lying friends love to make up lies and distortions about heath care. Obama cares about our people while the birthers and deathers could care less who if anyone other than themselves had heath care.
Pretty sad when the truth hurts a party and the have to rely on lies.
    Fair and balanced????? LOL!!!!

"over half of all Americans approve of how President Obama's handling his job"

Puh-leeze... if this were Bush, and his approval numbers plummeted 10 points in eight weeks, THE DROP would be the news... not the in innoculous weather report of, "here is where his numbers stand."

Only those who cannot reason beyond their nose will be against healthcare reform. Barack Obama is doing what it takes for all Americans to be cover. We spent trillions of dollars in Iraq we did not harassed George Bush Jr. Whether you like it or not the healthcare reform will be pass and it will be to the glory of this adminstration. President do not worry about the poll, What matters is that you are doing what you promise American people. Those Gops who hate you do not like themselves as well. You are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good job!

A bit of a partial truth here:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 32% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -6 (see trends)."

I.e., the 51% who say they like Obama don't like him as much as the other 49% dislike him.

These approval rating polls need to distinguish between Obama supporters who might disapprove of his handling of a particular issue like health care and those who don't approve of anything he is trying to do or has done. I am in the former group.

The do-nothing Republicans (and let's not forget Sara Palin) are doing a good job of fostering fear in the American public over the national healthcare issue. Republicans continue to do nothing positive for this country – a continuation of their 8 years in "control". Let's not be fooled by these "polls". This country is in much better shape thanks to the new attitude, outlook, and optimism of the Obama administration.
