WASHINGTON (CNN) – Three new national polls released over the past 24 hours indicate that just over half of all Americans approve of how President Obama's handling his job.

Fifty-one percent of people questioned in an NBC News survey released Tuesday night, in a Pew Research Center poll released Wednesday morning, and in the Gallup daily tracking poll released Wednesday afternoon approve of how Obama is handling his duties in the White House.
The president's disapproval rating stands at 37 percent in the Pew poll, 40 percent in the NBC News survey and 41 percent in the Gallup daily tracking poll, and

The 51 percent approval rating is down from an average of 54 percent at the end of July in a CNN Poll of Polls and down from an average of 61 percent in a CNN Poll of Polls from late June. The CNN Poll of Polls is an average of the most recent national surveys.

The Gallup daily tracking poll was conducted August 16-18, with approximately 1,600 people questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The NBC News poll was conducted August 15-17, with 805 adults questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The Pew Research Center poll was conducted August 11-17, with 2,010 people questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Talk is cheap, many people are just realizing that. This is a guy who has no backborn and has repeatedly chose to vote present on tough issues. Well, even the media is asking tough questions, now that he has given all the speeches, reality is setting in, and it is a sad state of affairs.

His current approval rating is fine. He will climb back up as soon as he gets health care reform done. He is a great president and is doing all he can do. However, he can not compete with the embeciles that are spewing misinformation and hatred. The cream will rise to the top and once again the "embeciles" will be defeated.

His rating should be 100%. Too bad the other 49% are RepubliKlan Idiots who only have their own interests in mind and not the entire countrys. This man has more to help his country in the last 8 months than was done in the last 8 years.

when you have a republican party that has a history of getting in power at 1600 penn, then taking that power and running rampant along w/ the rich people who are the true power. and basiclly having their way. and which causes havoc in all sectors of GOV"T then you have the democrats come along and try to balance the books only to have the repugs gain control again and loot the gov't again. its a cycle that i've watched all my life now iam 55-- and NOTHING has changed , "nothing" . what is anti-american and nazi are your dick armey's and his lobbyist or aka "legion" who broker back door deals w/ crooked congress folks who channel KICKBACKS aka cash to secert overseas bank accounts thats where BOEHNER kids and grand childrens money is really at. republicans you can't have it both ways .... you rob us then turn around and blame us , when you were the THEIVES all along. then you and right wing radio turn around and get them race hat'n folks all fired up. bring'n guns around the prez . how disrepectful.

By the time of the 2010 elections, Obama is a lame duck and the republicans control the House.

    One and done.

The approval rating would go up if he'd stop playing nice-nice with the stupid Republicans, who will never meet him halfway on anything. He's given them every chance at working together and they'll have none of it, so time to kick them to the curb and get business done despite them.

Republicans always cheer when Obama's ratings go down... but they should check the ratings for the GOP. Those go down more than Obama's do. Just because people are dissatisfied with him doesn't mean they're turning to the Republicans, and that's a *very* bad sign for the GOP.

Not worried.. polls are snapshots and it is just the beginning of the game...if he stays down here after Health reform is over... THEN we have a problem

Mr. President you get it through with a "TRUE" public option and the masses will applaud your vision, this time we choose health and life over a war of choice.

Even the nay sayers who sit on the side lines until the work is completed .yet they want to reap the benefits.

It's typical the black man goes out and gets the real work done and the white man (GOP) sits back and pats myself on the back and tries to claims the victory. More of the same.

Too Much Rhetoric and not enough POSITIVE ACTION / RESULTS is the reason for the "landslide" downward. Trust is Lacking and the so called Facts put forth by the Administration and the Democratic Leadership in Congress are "NOT CONVINCING"....The public is Losing Faith...and the Polls will 'Continue to Drop!" Credibility is just not there !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not care about polls. This Independent white male hockey dad without a home phone (cell phone) for polling thinks President Obama is doing a great job...especially with the uninformed, miopic, media and corporate manipulated RIGHT WING nutjobs out there interfering with real change and progress you promised and are trying to deliver. Keep going President Obama...I WILL NEVER EVER VOTE REPUG AGAIN...THEY ARE EXTINCT SPECIES AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED !!!

I voted for Barack Obama, and I continue to support him. I have complete confidence in him, but I'm losing confidence in the other Dems who SHOULD be doing something more with the power we gave them. They need to stop appeasing and start flexing some muscle.

I just love how people come on here and declare Pres. Obama, an accomplished man, as incompetent, but think that 497 out of 500 in his class McCain or 5 colleges and 6 years to get an undergrad, quitting, I can see Russia Palin would have been a great choice.

It really speaks to the idiocy of the GOP when 8% of you don't know Hawaii is a state.

The man is NOT incompetent. The political environment is just too rancorous, and getting worse all the time. Naturally, people associate all this chaos with him, but it is not him, or the Democrats. It is the never-ending campaigns. Why anyone would want that job is beyond me.

I don't know about you, but the "hope and change" is working quite well for me. Stock market is up. GM is hiring back workers. Health care reform WILL get passed. We are respected in the world again. We are getting out of Iraq. We have a president who can speak coherent sentences and doesn't take month-long vacations. The vice president hasn't shot any of his friends on some hunting trip. Should I continue...

I understand why his poll numbers are down, but no worry. Dems may need to go it alone– with control of the white house and both houses they could have done it from the start. At least they can say that they tried to work with the opposition but Repubs just stalled and whined.

To health care reform they said NO. in offering health care co-ops instead of a public option they said NO.

Guess what? DEMOCRATS ARE IN CHARGE. we tried to extend a hand but the repubs would have none of it. so that is exactly what they are going to get.

These are tough times. And with all the fake propaganda being put out by Republicans/Conservatives, it's a miracle he still has 51%.

Stay the course, President Obama. You're doing the right thing. Don't give in to poll numbers that have been skewed due to false advertising.

Car dealerships in New York are dropping out of the Cash-for-Clunkers program because they're not being reimbursed for the up-front rebates. Way to go, Obama!

The NBC poll was conducted on a "whopping" 805 people.
When they get serious, I might consider what's in a poll.
CNN front page had approximately 225 000 people answer the other day on a single question. I'd rather believe the latter, way more than the first.

We think President Obama is doing a great job – a very hard job considering all that was wrong when he started in January. He is our President and we support him and pray for him everyday.
