Elizabeth Edwards: I expect a paternity test on Hunter's child

Elizabeth Edwards spoke to CNN's Larry King about the paternity of Rielle Hunter's 18-month-old daughter, Frances.
Elizabeth Edwards spoke to CNN's Larry King about the paternity of Rielle Hunter's 18-month-old daughter, Frances.

(CNN) - Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, told CNN she believes a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the paternity of the child of Rielle Hunter, with whom her husband conducted an affair.

"My expectation is that at some point, something happens, and I hope for the sake of this child that it happens, you know, in a quiet way," she told CNN's Larry King Wednesday night.

John Edwards originally denied that he was the father of 18-month-old Frances, but has not denied recent reports that he may soon make a formal statement conceding his paternity.

His wife told King Wednesday that life continued as usual in the Edwards household. "Things are going fine. We are getting the children ready for a new school year, everything seems to be going pretty smoothly at my house. Thanks for asking," she said.

Mrs. Edwards, who is battling incurable cancer, told King that "the numbers don't look that optimistic, but I feel good." She said recent test results showed her in relatively good health. "I'm still out here fighting," she said.

This is no different than "failin Palin" dragging her family around with her and putting all their business in the public eye. Enough of this tabloid crap CNN! Start reporting the News, the Facts, the Truth. CNN has no credibility anymore! Just Broadcast the true News of the day and let Americans think for themselves! Americans are capable of making their own decisions and forming their own opinions. Just give us the Truth!

she needs to stop going on all these shows and keep her personal business, private. My heart doesn't go out to her, she's a joke just like failin' Palin.

It would seem to me that if Mrs. Edwards does not want to be asked questions about her personal life she should stay out of the limelight. There are others who can discuss healthcare. Why not stop all the running around the country and spend some time with the kids while she still has time? There is no point in pretending that 'things are running pretty smoothly" at her house. Her house is in a shambles, her kids are reading all of this crap, her grown daughter is humiliated. Take care of the family and get over your need to be the center of attention.

I can not believe how inconsiderate and insensitive Larry King could be asking those tabloid style questions at the end of a constructive healthcare debate.

Thank God Tommy Thompson had the sense of decency and respect to comfort her after those questions from Larry.

Asking with a smirk about someones stage 4 breast cancer, their marital problems, etc. is disgusting and just shows how CNN will do anything for ratings as it continues to get their clock cleaned by real news outlets like Fox.

Thank you Tommy for treating Elizabeth Edwards with respect not as a news story! I am sure she appreciated it.

I often wonder what these women who cheat with these politicians expect to gain from their affairs? Do they think anyone respects them for cheating with married men? And, how does Edwards talk to his children about safe-s*x and birth control, when he can't control his own libido?

Gotta feel bad for Elizabeth Edwards who has been a class act during her personal ordeals. It's almost like he traded her in for a newer model. Yet another politician talking out of both ends at the same time. Good luck to you Elizabeth and hope you pull a miracle,I am personally rooting for you.

How many of you that are screaming that she should leave her husband, that she is a fool, staying for the money, embarrassing her family...how many of you also yell loudly about defending the sanctity of marriage and how marriage laws should not be changed? I guarantee many of you do exactly this. You know who you are and you are the worst of the worst...

With all my sympathy due to any cancer survivors, enough is enough! Elizabeth Edwards should stop merchandising her pain and spend whatever time left to her with her children!
