WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Republican National Committee reports it raised more than $6 million last month.
In a statement issued Thursday morning, the RNC says it now has $21.8 million cash on hand and no debt. The statement also says the average donor contribution through the end of July was $42.
"The RNC continues to mount a very effective fund-raising effort and we are extremely thankful to the Americans who have contributed to the financial success of our Party. The Republican Party will be successful in the coming elections this fall and in 2010 thanks to the generosity of our donors," said RNC Chairman Michael Steele, in a statement.
The RNC raised more than $8 million in June and had $24 million cash on hand.
The RNC has put resources into the gubernatorial battles in New Jersey and Virginia, where Republicans are hoping to win back Democrat held seats, and that is a reason for the drop in the in the amount of money the party committee has in the bank.

The 6 million probably came from Insurance, Pharmaceutical and Medical establishments.
Obama's progressively liberal non-leadership abilities have been one HUGE gift for the GOP.
All this money raised by RNC and DNC could be put to better use. Just gotta wonder who would ever give any of their money to these organizations. Look at the good use Johnny Edwards did with his campaign funds...............pay off his mistress and his love child!
problem is... michael steele will blow it because he's an idiot! there's one reason he is in that position and it's not his business acumen. he will prove that he is as irrelevent in national politics and as he was in maryland. good luck with that!
Everyone knows that the six million comes from the insurance industry, the Republicans are bought and paid for.
Good Job!
And the monkey did it al by his ittsy bitsy self...
Republicans had better be careful. They lost their base in the last few elections because they were too busy raising money to do the business they were sent to Washington to do.
Ugh who in their right mind would donate to the party of no? Trying to win back democrat seats WHY? To do what they had 16 years in congress and 8 in the White house what did they do? But Destroy the Economy deregulate everything, started an Illegal lying War. And Let Lobbysit write the Bills! ugh
Hummmm...looks like the Repubs have a lot of catching up to do as George Soros steals that much per day and gives to the Dems, and the tax payers contribute 100 times that to the DNC through ACORN
We are disappointed that the Repub party became Democrat Light...but unfortunately, we need a quick opposition to this tyranical Obama/Pelosi/Reid Govt. I've given. Repubs...be on notice, we want less govt...no more corruption, and no more deficits!!!
I was so mad at the GOP in 2006-2008 I sent no $$. The lines started to blur between the paties and corruption is still bad on both sides. But the last 6 months clear lines are starting to emerge and I am again send $$ to the GOP. Democrats are running us into the ground.
2010 is going to be a left wing blood bath....how is that "hope and change" working out for ya??
Republicans are rich. So they contributed their pocket change. Where's the news in this?
Spend all you want, but you're party is still going extinct.
You can't survive and plan for the future when 99% of your members are old fat bald white angry racist men.
That sort of thing doesn't really help in the recruitment initiatives.
Effective they are ..lol....each donor recieves a letter stating they are chosen as the voice for the Repub party of their area......do you really believe you are the voice?.......This is my party....but when it sends flyers like that it just errs me....it's best to be truthful.
RNC mean Rich Nazis Corporation
Obama raise more money than RNC
Hillary raise more money than RNC
So we don’t care how much they raised
When the republican party consists of liars, distortions, swiftboating, party first and anything to win, why should we believe or care about anything they say??
When a political party is out to destroy our president, consequently our country and us, how can anyone in their right mind support them??
We have no need for outside terrorists as we have more than
our country needs domestically.
How sad for a political party to stoop to the levels they have.
Corporate America obviously loves the GOP's obstructionist attitude. And why not. It definitely favors them completely. And guess who loses when Corporate America wins?
