Senate GOP edges out Dems in fundraising

(CNN) - The National Republican Senatorial Committee slightly outraised its Democratic counterpart in the month of July, according to fundraising totals provided by both organizations Thursday.

The NRSC reported raising $2.75 million last month, bringing its year-to-date cash haul to $23.5 million. The NRSC also said it has $4.4 million cash on hand and is carrying zero debt.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised just over $2 million in the same time period, and has raked in $25.3 million since the beginning of the year. The DSCC has just over $7 million cash on hand and owes $3.3 million in debt.

Republican candidates have now matched their biggest lead over Democrats of the past several years on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 43% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 38% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.

  4. See you in 2010

I look forward to seeing the rebirth of the Republican party thanks to the helmsmenship of Micahel Steele who I respect as much as I detest Obama.

DON'T tamper down on the pressure being applied to the fraud in chiefs agenda as the truth about his side deals with Pharma, his lying about the AARP, lying about being for single payer, lying about being for gays, lying about etc, etc, etc.

You want these people who can't coordinate a Peanut butter and jelly sandwich type slam dunk like cash for clunkers at 3 BILLION DOLLARS to handle HEALTHCARE, are you as Barry would say, "retarded"?

Listen and speak at the townhalls, but ask good questions an be respectful as the wanton MEDIA WANTS to potray this as something other than what it is, REAL PEOPLE.

    One and done.

Republicans are too busy raising money to want low life Americans to have healthcare reform while they look down upon them. The rich get richer and poor need to stop supporting these REthugs.

State-controlled media is obcessing on "debunking the town hall myths" on behalf of Obama and Co. Okay, then how about debunking these myths:

    1) Government programs usually cost us many TMES more than advertised; 2) the CBO says that Obamacare will cost more than advertized, and thus will be an extra burden versus status quo; 3) "Cash for Clunker" is a glorious example of how Obama's government programs will be disasters, along with TARP, GM, carbon credit tax and trade, etc.; 4) Obama WILL tax the middle class more, and in fact already are; 5) government boards that make health care rationing decisions absolutely ARE "death panels" if you are on the receiving end of their negative decision!; and 6) Obama has added more to our national debt than any president in our history – and in only six months!

Where is the reporting on this??

Surprise! suprise! The Republicans are getting more lobbying money from the insurance industry than the Democrats. They've always been the more crooked party and this news just shows you why.

Republicans are getting lots of money from the insurance companies and big buisness, which could care less about working Americans. It is still called greed and selfishness. They only care about money.

  14. Joe Moderate

being a moderate- I am completely ignored by both parties. Democratic push for free lending began the market collapse, republican refusal to regulate debt markets fueled it and the dmeoncratic mortgage plan excludes me becasue I can pay my bills- barely.

I love you people "hhahaha – the republicans will retake control? " great- that will help – so they can interfere with personal liberties, create record corporate profits and ban abortion? – I'm just as screwed as this bunch of whining, gutless hippocrates who won't get their butts in gear, give the finger to the naysayers and pass health care reform.

prediction: The polarization in the US will lead to radical ideological camps that will tear the government apart. Within 50 years, the states will panic over financial ruin and panic, demanding a limit on congressional pwoers. A limit on one government branch will upset checks and balances resulting in extreme libertarianism or dictatorship. I give it 50-75 years tops. We're collectively too stupid to handle democracy.

  16. Voted4HealthCare

I will contribute to the DSCC as soon as Senate Finance allows FULL committee as Americans voted in this past election to pass health care with a public option.

Reforms now! And Democrats will receive the appreciation from the American people.

I read the article three times and can't see how the data presented justify the assertion in the headline that the GOP has raised more money than the Democrats.

All it proves is that the RNC is in the hands with corporations and the rich. That is why they want to maintain the status qou and push the corporate line instead of getting some spine and actually doing what is right.

Pathetic that in a democracy the one who raises the most money and sells his or her sole is the one seens as the victor.

They only "slightly" outraise the Dems? Man, they made a poor deal with the insurance companies, should've asked for more...
Why not make it public at this point, everybody knows: "GOP Senate votes for sale -up to 30% off this summer- hurry!"

WOW!! You guys are talking about Repubs raising too much money???Obama lied to McCain during the election about taking public funds and out-raised Mcain 10 to 1. In fact, he is still spending millions of dollars on campaign ads for health care...WHAT A JOKE!!! You are the president..stop campaigning! If it was such a great plan, look at the polls you lib morons!!! We are passing Health reform for less than 10% of the population. Make 340 million pay for 10 million...makes alot of sense LOL!!!!!!!!!
