On Obama's agenda next week: Golf

Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.
Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.

(CNN) - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is giving few specifics on how President Obama will spend his week-long vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

But one thing seems certain: Obama will likely sneak in several rounds of golf, just as former President Bill Clinton did when he vacationed on the island in the 1990's.

"There are no official events scheduled in the weeks ahead," Gibbs said Friday. "I anticipate he'll play golf a number of times."

According to the Boston Herald, rumored to be among his partners on the course is Tiger Woods, who is coming off a disappointing loss in the PGA championship last weekend. Woods is already set to be in the Boston area for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

But Gibbs said Friday he has no idea if the golfing legend will actually tee it up with Obama, who is estimated to be between a 16 and 24 handicap and has golfed several weekends in the Washington area over the summer.

"I think he is going to spend a decent part of his time relaxing with his family," said Gibbs. "I do not have anything that says he will play with Tiger Woods in the next few days."

But in between the rounds of golf and relaxing with his family, the president will continue to discuss the health care issue with lawmakers, GIbbs said.

"He'll continue to touch base with members of Congress in the House and the Senate on the Finance Committee to check in with them about progress that's being made," he said.

I am glad he is finally taking some time off. I think he works horrendous hours and weekends as well. He is the leader of our country and we want him to come back to work refreshed. He deserves a vacation.

Bush in his first year took the whole month of August to cut brush at Crawford, while waiting for 9-11. bush only worked eight hour days if that and seldom worked weekends. He had the distinction of taking the most time off of any president in history. I truly believe that he was never present however and cheney was the true president calling the shots.

I am so thankful for an intelligent hard working leader like President Obama.

    Regarding the President’s proposed vacation:

Okay, so Mr. Obama is leaving the WH for several days . . . has it every occurred to anyone that “Unofficially, he is paying his respects to our Senior Senator Mr. Kennedy – who was unable last week to attend his sister funeral due to his poor health?”

    Come on now –

    1. Taxes*
    2. Poor economy*
    3. Job loss*

*Were started by the previous administration . . .

Give the President a break . . . pointing the finger . . . does not get US . . . OUT THE PICKLE JAR!

    A divided nation . . . huh . . .

    Now what?

look, from a PR standpoint this may not be the most savy plan. it seems to me that if the president were planning to go on vacation the WH needed to keep it more low key, espcially with the economic condition. still, everyone needs a vacation, and with a job that can easily be 24/7 i say let the man play his 18 holes. let's just hope that he comes back with better ideas and accomplish more.

As usual a prevocative headline meant to bring the usual hateful comments about the President. Do you people read the hate you perculate unnecessarily?? Do you go home at night proud of the disaster you have all become when your try to call yourself "journalists"? Wolf Blitzer's biased grilling of the Scottish Health Secretary was one of the worst examples of an opinionated interview I have ever watched. What happened to objectivity??

Please advise what the Republican leadership, Mitch and John, are doing for their vacation. They certainly have been awfully quite of late!!

This President has worked harder and accomplished more good for the American people in his 7 months in office than certain former Presidents did in 8 years (3 of which they were on vacation at their ranch). A week of so on vacation is good to renew his energy and determination.

Oh, and TomOhio, regarding tort reform – 41 states have enacted differing forms of tort reform since the early 1986 – here in Florida, we extensive reforms, including caps on damages, were passed in 1999. Guess what – no significant decrease in malpractice premiums have occurred as a result.

Your not going to enjoy Government Health care. There is not enough space here to begin to tell you how painful it is to watch how my elderly parents are treated. How it takes 5 months for an MRI, or how you don't pick your Doctor(if you can even get one). The Liberals on here will be disappointed, but will only be able to hang their heads in shame.Your people have no idea how good you have it.The common answer from most Doctors in Canada is "your not sick enough yet" and 2nd one is "the Americans can do that immediately, call the Mayo". I'm Canadian and other than Healthcare, I'm proud of that.

OUR President has been working harder in the last 8 weeks than the "other one" did in 8 years. He deserves a break. He needs a break!

Why not, as the GOP sit on their duffs and try to undermine the work he's putting in trying to get OUR COUNTRY back on track. The lies, greed and collusion amongst them is appauling. Their attitudes of politics first, Country second is disgusting.

Just how can so many Americans expect to have thier "entitlement changes" so soon? A little pain… a lot to gain. This may hurt a little, but you'll feel better in the morning!

Hey CNN... this is the third time I posted this... you keep cutting it. What's the matter? Too Pro-Obama??

Watch.: Two days after Obama leaves town, look for the RNC to 'invent' a crisis...foreign, economic, extraterrestrial, it does not matter....just as we hear now Bush raising the terror level before an election for political gain, look for some RNC shenanigans and headline grabbing while 'the cat' is away.........

Man, the RAWPs are out in force today. Funny thing is even the Russians are calling Obama a Marxist and in the Pravda's editorial they wonder that we didn't learn anything from their last 70 years or so of experience.

A bad day at golf beats a good day at work... or trying to overcome the entire medical insurance industry.

Take a few days. They will still be here when you get back.
