On Obama's agenda next week: Golf

Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.
Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.

(CNN) - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is giving few specifics on how President Obama will spend his week-long vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

But one thing seems certain: Obama will likely sneak in several rounds of golf, just as former President Bill Clinton did when he vacationed on the island in the 1990's.

"There are no official events scheduled in the weeks ahead," Gibbs said Friday. "I anticipate he'll play golf a number of times."

According to the Boston Herald, rumored to be among his partners on the course is Tiger Woods, who is coming off a disappointing loss in the PGA championship last weekend. Woods is already set to be in the Boston area for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

But Gibbs said Friday he has no idea if the golfing legend will actually tee it up with Obama, who is estimated to be between a 16 and 24 handicap and has golfed several weekends in the Washington area over the summer.

"I think he is going to spend a decent part of his time relaxing with his family," said Gibbs. "I do not have anything that says he will play with Tiger Woods in the next few days."

But in between the rounds of golf and relaxing with his family, the president will continue to discuss the health care issue with lawmakers, GIbbs said.

"He'll continue to touch base with members of Congress in the House and the Senate on the Finance Committee to check in with them about progress that's being made," he said.

    southerncousin,

you are a lying waste of space. a round of golf costs between 20-30 dollars at most public courses. Stop your whining and enjoy life, its too short to spend it this way.

And of course the right is acting as if he should never take time off. Yet you didn't hear one word about George Bush spending 33% of his presidency on vacation.

Have a good time on your vacation Mr. President! Don't worry about those right wing nuts! Sensible Americans 53% still have your back.
We know you can't change America in 6 months. You're not Jesus! We understand. We have patience. We know its going to take time. Some things you have to go back a tweak but thats okay. Tell Michelle, grandma and the girls hi!

    PEACE

This is a vacation well deserved. I think in the past months that the President has been unfairly trashed by the opposition. I call it the Jackie Robinson syndrome. It was obviously hard for him to be the first black baseball player and the same is true for President Obama as the first black president. Also I believe we are entering the the last great gasp of racism in our country. With introduction of universal health care, access to higher education, new scientific inventions, and a greater concern for energy independence as well as a cleaner planet we will chart a new direction.

Really? You want him hard at work...so you can disagree with what he's doing? Seems to me, if you have such a problem with his policies and the overall job the President is doing, you'd want him on vacation as much as possible.

But, that would require a rational train of logic the GOP is sorely lacking these days. That's why they dredge the bottom of the barrell and attract the yahoos along with what well-to-doers they have left.

This is just getting sad. Please act your age and like your parents taught you better than showing your *ss in public.

I was going to respond to some of the negative comments about our president. But after reading the first 15, there are only a couple to respond to. Although Obama's popularity has slipped, The GOP has not done anything to put themselves on the rise. The reason being, they can't stop pulling their opponent down long enough to pull themselves up.

    Let me get this straight.

Obama's health care plan will be written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it and whose members will be exempt from it, signed by a president who smokes, funded by a treasury chief who did not pay his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that is broke.

    What could possibly go wrong?

Utter confidence in goverment equals insanity of the people.

If the president is losing approval, he should do what Bush did and raise the terror threat level. It got an unpopular president reelected in 2004.

Every vacation Bush took was full of the left screaming and hollaring. Even when he was working..but doing it from his ranch. Now, I don't begrudge Obama his vacation and I think the right is wrong for saying anything about it. But, I can't help reminding the LEFT that you did the same thing, every flippin time. Once again, the pot calling the kettle black....people in glass house. Use your brains folks. We have enough sheeple out there.

Maybe Obama could learn something from Tiger ... Like Follow through, have a plan of action, then executed the plan. unlike Obama who flys by the seat of his pants, has all these great ideas but HAS NO FLIPPING IDEA HOW TO IMPLEMENT THEM. AKA STIMULAS PACKAGE, CASS FOR CLUNKERS HEALTH CARE... However he does know how to jump on Air Force one to make this dumb speeches just as though he were on the campaign trail. He doesn't get it yet and I don't think he will. Too many lobbyists have their hands in his pockets or the pockets of his "close advisors" YEP no change here.

Have a great vacation, Mr. President. And don't worry, all those people begrudging you a little R&R would also be attacking you if you never traveled for personal reasons - they'd accuse you of never leaving the White House bubble and call you an elitist.

Did he take a vacation while he was campaigning for the position of our President? I doubt it. But now that we are in a worse situation than we were when he took office, he feels the need to let of some steam. Not surprised.

I didn't vote for Bush but when he won I supported him.
It's a shame some people are such Sore Losers that they can't even support the Country that they're supposed to love so much.
This IS OUR NEW PRESIDENT. Grow Up, Shut Up, and support him if you LOVE your Country!!
He's trying to clean up the MESS that is left after 8 long years!

Just a little History folks................President Eisenhower (Republican) was not only known as Golfing MORE than any other President in history..............he suffered a mild stroke while on a golf course while President. We ALL are in this together , no party is with out fault. Forget this negative stuff and lets work together as a nation....First on the Agenda ??? Why that would be health care reform with a government option.

When will you right wing nuts realize that Mr. Peepers (Mitch McConnell) and Howdy Doody (John Boehner) do not give a rat's behind about the American people? They are deep in the pockets of the health care industry.
