On Obama's agenda next week: Golf

Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.

Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.

(CNN) - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is giving few specifics on how President Obama will spend his week-long vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

But one thing seems certain: Obama will likely sneak in several rounds of golf, just as former President Bill Clinton did when he vacationed on the island in the 1990's.

"There are no official events scheduled in the weeks ahead," Gibbs said Friday. "I anticipate he'll play golf a number of times."

According to the Boston Herald, rumored to be among his partners on the course is Tiger Woods, who is coming off a disappointing loss in the PGA championship last weekend. Woods is already set to be in the Boston area for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

But Gibbs said Friday he has no idea if the golfing legend will actually tee it up with Obama, who is estimated to be between a 16 and 24 handicap and has golfed several weekends in the Washington area over the summer.

"I think he is going to spend a decent part of his time relaxing with his family," said Gibbs. "I do not have anything that says he will play with Tiger Woods in the next few days."

But in between the rounds of golf and relaxing with his family, the president will continue to discuss the health care issue with lawmakers, GIbbs said.

"He'll continue to touch base with members of Congress in the House and the Senate on the Finance Committee to check in with them about progress that's being made," he said.

Why every time a President takes a vacation people say that tired old line that the President is using our tax dollars to do nothing. Look Obama is the President of the United States, not an easy job you know. Can't he step away for a little R&R?

As a democrat, his royal vacation at a 21 million dollar estate is just ridiculous. The federal government owns golf courses all over the country, he should show up like everyone else but then again, he does not want to be like everyone else.

I'm sick and tired of the libs pulling the "cry baby crap" yelling and screaming anyone who dislikes or critizes Obama. You love to call them sore losers, but guess what....what comes around goes around democrats were nothing but sore losers for 8 years spewing nothing but hatred, most of which never gave Bush a legitimite chance. Yet now you sit and ask as if how dare you say that, I would never insult the president, and of course almost always the end with "we had 8 years of failed policy, bush, republicans, etc.

Grow up and accept the fact that not every body has to like the president and they are allowed to express their feelings.

Paul C – the Rapists (i.e.Democrat Party) supported the war in Iraq until they believed it was adventageous to cheer own our enemy. National defense is necessary. Raping the people of their hard earned income is not ncessary.

Does anyone know what percentage of their income the Obama's and Biden's gave to charity over the last decade ? Tell Obamists, fess-up. You people want to be charitable with my money but not your own.

Hey Johnathon.... excellent comment – you clearly do your research before making comments. How about the fact that the economy (which Obama has owned for ONLY 7 months now) is on it's way to RECOVERY after your mr. bush destroyed it in his 8 years in power. Obama listened to SMART people with REAL economic experience (you know, like Buffet v.s. your limbaugh) and has turned a BAD situation into the best he could in 6 months.

Love your comments. Makes me realize how lucky we are that your party is at an insignificant 21% approval and lost big in 2008.

All the whining on here is pathetic and disingenous. If the man cured cancer you'd still be whining.
EVERYONE goes on vacation and the man w. the hardest, most stressful (mainly b/c of whiners like you!) job in the country needs some rest if he is to roll up his sleeves and get back in there again.

As for paying for programs for "lazy" people, so....elderly people on Medicaid are "lazy"? Y'all have been paying for that for YEARS, but I've never heard anyone complain.

Babs? Sweetie? If you recall, W. had a "stimulus plan", too and we see how well that went w. the banks! They were basically writen a blank check w. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. And um...Cash for Clunkers WORKED. Auto makers put people back to work in order to meet the demand. Please know what you are speaking about before you type. Thanks.

Ben in Oil City.> Agreed on all counts!

I don't know, I'm with the other poster. I work 50 hours a week so that 23% of my paycheck goes to welfare(socialistic)programs. I don't get to take vacations because I can't afford them, not even to go stay out on the beach for a weekend.

Obama has made several trips since taking oath and all those trips has shown him taking in the sites and sounds of the cities that he visited (Grand Canyon anyone?).

Yes he deserves a vacation, but maybe is not the time to be taking one after flying everywhere else.

Okay and for the person who said he is paying for it out of his own money, um who do you think foots the salary of the President of the United States? So yes he is taking a vacation with taxpayers money, sugar coating it doesn't give it a different taste.

  17. Did any of you SAVE during the last 8 years?

I also have to add.... those of you who don't think the economy is coming out of recession b/c you don't have any SAVINGS – you can thank your short-term thinking Mr. Bush for TELLING you NOT to save and to go spend.

Those of us who were responsible and SAVED over the past 8 years are SEEING signs of recovery b/c the stock market (and hence our savings) are going up.

Barry Hussien has taken the disaster of George Bush and doubled down on it. The name Obama will go done through future generations in the same way Benedict Arnold and Joseph Stalin.

The only good thing Nobams's done for normal taxpayer people was Cash for Klunkers and they killed that too soon. At least that program acutally helped a LOT of people.

If these idiots would just turn over the Veteran Administration's paperwork to Aetna (excellent system) on a contract basis, ALL veterans would get excellent care without the bureaucratic bungling.

Finally, NObama should go on vacation and stay there. Martha's Vinyard is the oddest place for him, but oh, well. Movin' on up to the East Side, I guess.

    Meh – GREAT summary!

I have to agree – Cash for Clunkers was a much better program than BUSH"s stimulus package (interesting how all the republicans only talk about Obama's plan – not their own Bush's plan.) Cash for Clunkers has helped turn the car industry around. For those of you paying attention to anyone other than Palin and Limbaugh, you would have seen Ford and Chrysler both are HIRING and INCREASING work shifts.

That WAS the point of stimulus, right???? Bring in jobs, turn around the economy, get the industry back on it's feet.

No wonder we can never get decent politicians to represent our interest. Some of us Americans critisize too much even when it's not necessary. I'm not suggested that policy differences should not be aired, but this mindless meanspirted stuff that is thrown out there every time is enough to turn a dog's stomach. Let the man vacation in peace and stop complaining. It took George Bush 8 years to mess up the country. It will take more than 8 to reverse the mess.
