On Obama's agenda next week: Golf

Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.
Obama is expected to play golf a 'number of times' while on vacation, said the White House.

(CNN) - White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is giving few specifics on how President Obama will spend his week-long vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

But one thing seems certain: Obama will likely sneak in several rounds of golf, just as former President Bill Clinton did when he vacationed on the island in the 1990's.

"There are no official events scheduled in the weeks ahead," Gibbs said Friday. "I anticipate he'll play golf a number of times."

TIME: Barack Obama: America's (Not So Great) Golfer-in-Chief

According to the Boston Herald, rumored to be among his partners on the course is Tiger Woods, who is coming off a disappointing loss in the PGA championship last weekend. Woods is already set to be in the Boston area for the Deutsche Bank Championship.

But Gibbs said Friday he has no idea if the golfing legend will actually tee it up with Obama, who is estimated to be between a 16 and 24 handicap and has golfed several weekends in the Washington area over the summer.

"I think he is going to spend a decent part of his time relaxing with his family," said Gibbs. "I do not have anything that says he will play with Tiger Woods in the next few days."

But in between the rounds of golf and relaxing with his family, the president will continue to discuss the health care issue with lawmakers, GIbbs said.

"He'll continue to touch base with members of Congress in the House and the Senate on the Finance Committee to check in with them about progress that's being made," he said.

Make sure you take a stop at the steak house near the docks in Hyannis....great food (and only a boat ride in the fog over).

    Alabama dude-
Republicans are the obstructionist's? Another CNN report on this site says the blue-dog democrats are essentially the obstructionist's by wanting a health-care bill w/o public option. poor obama.

Champly, you claim that no supporters of President Obama will defend him, but only attack you, his critic. I have no doubt that it would take all of two sentences to refute any criticism you offered, but you do nothing but spew personal attacks against him. What do you expect people to respond by doing except attack you in kind?

Give an actual argument about something like an adult rather than ranting childishly and you will get a reasoned response from people.

champly> You're like a broken record. No-one but the Right Wing crazies (not all Republicans fit that bill) are calling President Obama a "lord and savior" OR a "messiah". He's human. You're the only ones expecting him to be super-human! i.e. – Never taking a break, fixing the economy in 8 months. The rest of us are a little more realistic.

No Obamist here has yet defended their Lord and Savior on any point. This is suppose to be a place to exchange ideas, not carry out marching orders from the The Ones handlers. I thought some Obamists had at least a few brain cells left, but apparently not.
    --------------------

I am assuming champly, that you understand that all Bush and Cheney et al. could talk about was 'threat levels'.

President Obama was elected fairly (not by fiat from the SCOTUS) and is trying to actually DO something positive. All The previous cabal did was try to limit oversight of government, claim privilege where there wasn;t supposed to be any (according the the Constitution), and SCARE THE LIVING BEJEEZUS out of everyone in the country, every chance they got.

He is trying to reform health care. He is trying to deal fairly but firmly with the dictators in Iran and N.Korea. Ignoring a problem, as happened the last 8 years, doesn;t make it go away (RE: Iranian and N.Korean nukes), while creating a problem (finishing Pappy's war in Iraq) causes no end of problems.

How many Americans and Iraqi's died so Bush Junior could have a p******* war with the 'evildoers'? A completely unnecessary war. How many? To enrich the Bush and Cheney family friends. How many?

    Do your homework.

Good ,he needs to relax a bit. He's done great so far with cleaning up this mess for the people of America. We finally have a president that cares about doing the work he was elected for by the people and not corperate scumb.

Hussein is the most arrogant person I have ever seen! I see from all the comments here that his comrades are out in full force. Keep working – we have a lot of mortgages we have to pay for all the lazy pieces of crap who refuse to work. Break a leg, Hussein! Literally!

Don't need to know about his daily agenda. Why is media giving this guy so much attention. All we as citizens need to care about is getting this economy back on track, who cares what he is doing, eating, where he is golfing.

Media has been romanticising this guy since he announced he was running for the presidency.

    Pretty disdainful!!

  13. Biased

Lessons learned from reading this story and comments:
    1. Obama's week vacation on a $25,000 a week private home is to be ignored by everyone who is not willing to write a comment here glowing of how hard he works and what a lovely family they are etc.etc.etc. The first hint of any criticism will bring on the wrath of his supporters telling you how bad Bush was or you're an idiot.
    2. The next BIG change in Washington Obama better bring quick is that he needs to inform his own democrats that he is the president now. They seem to still think Bush is.

    Revolution means:

    1. The process of incompetent getting automatically eliminated.

    2. Just like in the Competitive Market, Products that are Good, will Sell.

    3. Revolution is not happening by choice, it is a happening by necessity.

    4. Obama is not making the Revolution to Happen. Obama is the end result of the Revolution. Obama was elected as the President, because of the Revolution against Bush and the incompetent GOP.

    5. Revolution is not caused by Obama, rather Obama is the result of the Revolt of the People against GOP.

    6. Obama is the Outcome of a Revolution, he is not the one who brought the Revolution.

    7. The real Revolution is yet to Come, when GOP will be Extinct and Perished.

Wow, already his second major vacation in 8 months. Funny, I remember Bush getting bashed....

You know, it is amazing how many times I am able to use the phrase "I remember when Bush did the same ....." Funny how politics works.

  22. just wanted to make sure

Bush gave up golf while he was Pres. because we were at war and he had more important things to do. Obama has been drinking beer(smoking cigarettes, no doubt, as well) and now he heads off for more celebrity turns with Tiger?

this reminds me of Mr. Thompson and Wesley Mouch throwing lavish parties while entire industries were crumbling....Who is John Galt?

Wonder if all the people whining about Obama's vacation were equally upset with the Vacationer in Chief the previous 8 years. No president ever took as much time off as W.

Nobody really cares if he takes a break this is all just a backlash of anger because of the libs who spouted about Bush being on Vacation. Lib dems treated Bush really nasty and continue to do the same to Palin.

Obama was a major critic and now gets his share handed back. Call it Karma!
