Senator to actor: 'Make my day'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Democrat Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut has a simple message for Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin: bring it on.

Asked Sunday on CNN's State of the Union about Baldwin’s recent comments that he might move to Connecticut and mount a challenge to Lieberman because, as Baldwin told Playboy magazine, “I have no use for [Lieberman],” the Independent senator responded, “You know, make my day.”

“I respect Alec Baldwin as an actor and as a comedian,” added Lieberman, “if he wants to run, that’s his right.”

Lieberman has a track record of surviving tough election battles. After his strong support of George W. Bush’s decision to wage war in Iraq made him a target of liberal bloggers and activists, Lieberman lost the Democratic Senate primary in his state in 2006. Undaunted, the longtime senator decided to run as an independent and managed to hold on to seat. He is not up for re-election again until 2012.

The Democrats are a laughing stock when they promote a candidate like this wife beater and verbal abuser of his daughter. Hypocracy at its finest for you losers.

For once, Lieberman is thinking clearly. All he'd have to do is play that tape of Baldwin lambasting his daughter, and it would be over. Actually, because of that tape, any dreams Baldwin EVER had of running for office are dead.

Go for it Alec. When you do, send me an envelope so I can send my money to Lieberman's campaign. It will be great to watch him humiliated once again. By the way, thought he was going to leave the country 9 years ago when Bush went into office!! What a joke.

Baldwin is delusional. It doesn't matter if I agree with LIeberman or not, I would never vote for some smug carpetbagging Hollywood jerk who came to my state just because he didn't like my senator.

How much arrogance and gall can be wrapped up in one person?

I too would like to see Alec Baldwin follow through with his threat. Then we could determine whether Connecticut was as full of morons as Minnesota.

I am a Conservative but respect Joe Lieberman on a lot of issues. Alec Baldwin is an idiot; a complete idiot. He ought to stick to what he knows best and thats lousy acting. By the way, since he has so much free time, he should also work on his parenting skills.

Senator Lieberman needs to be careful. He may have won when he did, but he is very very vulnerable because of his shifts instead of his stands. The Senator would be wise not to be so self sufficient, because there are several known names in his state and outside of his state that can mount a campaign to oust him especially if he is not on the side of Americans.

LIEBERMAN IS THE PENULTIMATE POSTURING OPPORTUNIST POLITICIAN. There is no one in politics whose mere body language inspires a more powerful gag reflex. Alec Baldwin or Shrek, I don't care, anybody but Lieberman.

Baldwin is a jerk. Like a lot of Hollywood liberals, he has all the answers. I wish he would move to Connecticut- he might get elected and see it isn't so easy.

Me too. get rid of this war mongering dog. he plays both sides of the fence with no political morales or compass, just be close to the seat of power so as to influence things for Israel and not what is best for Amercia. I wonder who own most of those health insurance companies that lieberman is trying to protect??

Baldwin's spouting off. He's not going to be successful carpetbagging into any state and taking over a senate seat.

I agree with him though that Lieberman ought to be sent packing. SOMEBODY – send Lieberman packing!
