Waters is urging the president to keep the public option plan.

(CNN) -- As President Obama begins his vacation in Martha's Vineyard this week, the fiery debate over health care reform continues to rage.

The latest member of congress to wade into the issue is California Rep. Maxine Waters, a liberal Democrat who at a town hall over the weekend implored the president not to drop the public option plan and said his efforts at bipartisanship are futile.

Watch: Obama pressured on Public Option

"Yes, we know that you are a nice man, that you want to work with the opposite side of the aisle. But there comes a time when you need to drop that and move forward," she said. "We're saying to you, Mr. President, 'Be tough. Use everything that you've got. Do what you have to do. And we have your back.' "

The longtime congresswoman, whose district includes much of Los Angeles, also described some senators who are opposed to the health care reform bill as "Neanderthals."

Earlier: Lieberman warns Obama not to do too much

"Not only are we going to do everything we can to organize and put pressure on the senators - some of whom are Neanderthals - we're going to say to the president, 'We want you to use every weapon in your basket in order to get those senators to do what they should be doing,' " she said.

The comments were met with strong applause in the forum held at L.A. Southwest College, a community college that that abuts several impoverished neighborhoods.

Propaganda, lies and more Bull Crap. The democracts and the far left Media is a disgrace. The two of them are going to bring this country down. We need jobs, not this crap. With jobs you will have insurance or money to buy it.

This is the most corrupt administration and we all are going to pay with it with our Freedom.

The black Spider   August 24th, 2009 11:25 am ET

I just never unsdertood this senators argument on this health care debate.
IN EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD there is either Total government control health care or Government Hospitals working on the side of Private Hospitals and people have the choice according to what they can afford.
Even In America there is Goverment Hospitals for Veteran, Government Insurance for Seniors and the poors.
The rest of the population is left at the mercy or Big Immoral Insurance Corporations in pursue of profit at all cost.
If there they don't want public option why don't they ever vote to close VA hospitals, Suspend medicare for Seniors and the poors, Suspend social security, close every Public School or institution down.
Shut down the Millitary and let private contractors hire people for the national defense and Intelligence and privatize everything and see how it would work.

People deserve the government they get. In the case of Waters, the voters are getting what they deserve. Some day they may wake up, but I doubt it. Waters excels at pandering to the extreme left. And they're dumb enough to keep re-electing her. At least the people of Georgia finally wised up.

Scott, Tucson   August 24th, 2009 11:25 am ET

Ms Waters is just part of the problem that is wrong with our government...I wonder how much cash she's hiding in her freezer?

jfw   August 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

If I were a Senator, I would consider the source. Ms. Waters is an embarassment to the Congress, and to the voters of California.

Wise Latina   August 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

Waters – what a one-person nuthouse! She is the premier poster person (although the Dems have MANY candidates) for what is all wrong with Washington.

Proud Member..Party of No   August 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

Maxine Waters is dumber than a box of rocks so nothing she says should surprise anyone. Vote her out.

shmeckel   August 24th, 2009 11:24 am ET

You tell um Maxine. Maybe if we continue to push legislation without refining it, or thinking about the cost, or who will pay for it, or providing the public with any information, as quick as we can, we can make the nations deficit look even worst than California’s.

I don’t want any information, you just keep spending, make some promises, don’t provide any information, and you will get half of Americans back you up without question.

You go on with your liberal spending, deficit growing, no information providing self.

usualone   August 24th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Whatever the issue, Republicans will not join President Obama. They play on people's fears; and what is really sad is the fact that people forget what the past 8 years brought us. Where we live (in a Democratic dominated state) people are vocally outspoken about their dislike of the President. In conclusion, his race must be a big reason for this dislike. What people forget is that he is a black/white man and is trying to get things done for everyone. He is tackling big issues and many don't give him a chance. I wonder if there would be so much vitriole if President Obama were a white man. The Republicans will use this for all its worth. Thankfully, they are not gaining any grounds with the public even with Mr. Obama's drop in ratings.

mark in Houston   August 24th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Good for her.......

As far as Lieberman is concerned......he's a wimp interested in only himself and his political future. He lacks the courage to do what is right for the country.

As for the majority of Republicans....they are a party of greedy, power hungry hypocrites who stoop to lies and the spreading of fear. A party of short memories, they lamented their tactics after the loss in the National elections...saying they had strayed from their values.......but return immediately to the same old fear and hate tactics used during the Bush administration when attempting to stop health care reform.

They, as a whole, have one goal...regain power by defeating health care reform. Like Lieberman, they have no concern for what is the right thing to do.

Given the opportunity, the Democrats should shove this bill down their throats and then tell them to "Get over it".

Dave   August 24th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Liberals tout themselves as being intellectual They have no clue about the Health Care bills being put forward; so that make stupid statements,ie Pelosi, Reid, and now Waters, and resort to name calling. The good thing about this debate, if that is what you want to call it, is they are taking down the Obama with them. Obama's problem is with his own party.

Chris from NY   August 24th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Name calling = Classy. Just what we'd expect from our "elected officials", the people who are supposed to represent us. I, for one, do not like anybody who is representing me to be a mud thrower and name caller. Even if I don't like "universal health care", I'm not calling anybody a name. That is pointless, and just like a certain democrat said just the other day: Do you think that this adds any validity to your argument Mrs. Waters?

ojibwe   August 24th, 2009 11:12 am ET

How can ANYONE say that the administration reached out to the other side of the aisle on this bill? THIS BILL WAS NOT EVEN WRITTEN BY OUR LEADERS IN WASHINGTON. This bill was put together by the Apollo Alliance. Even Democrats weren't included in developing this monster. They simply took their marching orders to support it, no questions asked. Secret handshake.

richard   August 24th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Congresswoman Waters represents herself and not her constituents She is demonstrably corrupt and an example of why term limits are a good idea. She may also be the dumbest member of the House, unless Sheila Jackson Lee takes the same IQ test.

Rick CT   August 24th, 2009 11:11 am ET

But just remember, there are 60 Dems in the Senate and over 250 in the House. If they can't get health care passed, Waters must be calling some of her own party Neanderthals.

Jay   August 24th, 2009 11:11 am ET

I think some people are looking as if the government wants to take over health care without realizing that what is Medicare and Medicaid. They are health care programs backed by the Government. If any one of those who think this is not true, then when you are not working and can't afford the high cost of a doctor who only prescribe placobo tablets for some people who are ill but charge the government the actual cost for the real medication. This is the kind of health care we don't need and the government is trying to warn people of how the high cost of health is robbing thier pocketbooks and refusing their chance to live. People wake up and see that if you really want to live in a society that you can pay less and get the same care that the rich get vote for public option.

lyfsatrip   August 24th, 2009 11:10 am ET

And you Ms. Waters are a total bafoon!

Maria - Proud Democrat   August 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Yes we have many Neanderthals in Congress.....the ones who want to push this health care plan down our throats even when the majority of Americans are against the plan.

Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike want a well thought out, well budgeted, effective plan that is detailed and worth passing.

We don't want the current mess that is being discussed.

I wish all these Neanderthals in Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike would stop focusing on their careers and their ideology and start putting a plan that will truly work for America.

Stop fighting and calling each other names like a bunch of school kids and start acting like adults!!!

Rick CT   August 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

I would classify Waters as a Neanderthal, but that would probably be taken as a racist statement in her mind – and those of her supporters.

CaSunshine   August 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Go Girl Go!!...you called them a nicer name than I would...but forget the scum Republicans and let's all rally behind our Pres. and Demos. who want to help this country and our healthcare system. It is about time we tell those Blue Dogs to shape up or leave the party..we will not forget at election time.

Ed   August 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Another typical example of bankrupt tactics by the Left – if you can't argue with facts, attack the other side personally. This betrays both arrogance and ignorance that there are reasons to oppose this massive, badly written, ill-conceived bill. Keep it up and watch approval ratings of Obama and Congress continue to plummet.

Doug   August 24th, 2009 11:08 am ET

ojibwe   August 24th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Hey Maxine, did you read the whole bill? Oh that's right no sitting member in D.C. had a hand in actually writing that health care bill, so why read it. The Apollo Alliance put this mess together and like a good soldier, you endorse it without reading what's in it. God sees all, Maxine.

Raheim in Afghanistan   August 24th, 2009 11:03 am ET

I totally agree Representative Waters. If only Mr. Obama would see the same view, I feel we'd all be better served . I love that he is more of a centrist but the Republicans are out to break him as the "Party of No". At every opportunity they are presented, it has been one that shows obstinence and partisan politics. The GOP will stop at nothing to make sure he fails including voting against everything our President does. We have too many without insurance due to the insurance company having no check & balances, no competition and no conviction of heart other than to get rich off someone else's pain. Let us make it more affordable so that it can be accomplished. Let it be the people's choice. The only ones complaining are those that are misinformed or those that have insurance already. I don't play majorities and minorities but make a choice in the best interest of every last American; those with and without healthcare.

Keith in Austin   August 24th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Give us a break Maxine! Your attacks don't hold any water now. I hope you get a job w/ ACORN when you're not re-elected.

T   August 24th, 2009 11:01 am ET

And I'm glad these folks are finally pushing back. The dems sound ridiculous. You have the majority, yet you're allowing the minority to frame the debate.

The fringe left should have been pitted against the fringe right a long time ago.

That way the foolishness of the right would have been muted against their counterparts.

And the middle could have came up with a plan that was mutually beneficial to all. Instead the middle of the road plan has been called extreme and the American people have no idea who's telling the truth.

Juli   August 24th, 2009 11:00 am ET

Brilliant, congresswoman. Brilliant. Let's name call and finger point instead of working together. Let's forget open discussion on the merits of the issue and call those who don't agree with us cavemen.

Does this idiotic "representative" not realize that this government is – or is supposed to be – a government of the people, for the people, and by the people? I don't understand how my fellow Americans continue to elect such individuals who hold such a great disdain for the Constitution of the United States of America to Congress and the White House. Maybe it is a "I am owed" mentality, whatever . . . but it is NOT the position of the President to "force" Senators to do what he and the majority in Congress want. It is the responsibilty of Congress(wo)men to REPRESENT their constituents – not their own idealogy or that of the president (and, yes, president is lower case for a reason.)

Interesting that Waters should endorse coersion and force - rather than working through to a solution that's amenable to all. Surely she's familiar with this quote from Obama: “A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, ‘Huh. It works. It makes sense.”

Jhak Schiddt   August 24th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Name-calling is always an ignorant way of expressing oneself. It reflects on the speaker, rather than those spoken about. But as they used to say, "what do you expect from a hog but a grunt." Ms. Waters, to take a line from Barney Franks, "What planet are you living on?" No one in the administration is interested in bipartisanship. The Republicans couldn't stop Obama care if they wanted to. If you guys could get the conservative Democrats to go along with Obama care it would be a done deal. Great Propoganda to make it seem like the Republicans are the evil ones blocking your attempts to save us all from the evil doctors and insurance companies. I guess if you say it enough and the state run media doesn't challenge you on it, there will be a good number of mindless Americans who will "drink the Koolaid"

....we can afford to kill people but can't afford to take care of our own people...

That's how pre-modern man behaved. They killed competing bands of cavemen over land, religion, and other resources. When someone got sick or injured, they were left to die or outright killed. Apparently not much has changed.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for her to explain to them how this is the wrong time and the wrong approach to fixing health care. As far as they care, it could cost $100 trillion and they would still want the U.S. government to do it. When it fails, at least they will know she stood up for them.

jfs Memhis, Tn   August 24th, 2009 10:46 am ET

She's right..........both sides need to get with it.........Republicans are the worst. The GOP Senators are like little old people having a bridge game on the fifty yard line ,in the middle of the field, during a Super Bowl Game. Totally oblivious to the needs of the majaority of this country.........only aware of the limited surroundings of their constituentcies. These Senators are WAY overdue for replacement. The Dems have issues also. Fact is the time is now....or never on health care. The government option must be in any law. Can you imagine what it would have been getting a Constitution created in this enviornment ????? It would take two years to get beyond WE THE PEOPLE......... Its funny that in most cases the states complaining the most about the cost of a government option, are the ones that contribute the fewest taxe dollars...........what is up with that ????

machtim akannah   August 24th, 2009 10:46 am ET

The process is supposed to be "deficit neutral". I have yet to hear a definition of deficit neutral nor have I heard how deficit neutral will be achieved. Define in simple straight forward terminology, please.

Have the democrats lost it. Get it through your thick skulls the american people do not want government run health care. You force it through and the demoncrats will loose a lot of seats in 2010 election!

Johnny DC   August 24th, 2009 10:44 am ET

Perfect example of the arrogance of today's far left. This used to be the characteristic associated with the GOP, but somehow the roles have reversed.

I'd love for Democrats to stop blaming the GOP for their problems. If you could control your own party, you could pass whatever you want. Your problems are the responsible, Blue Dog democrats.

And god bless them.

Deborah from NC   August 24th, 2009 10:44 am ET

GO MAXINE! I have written the same message to the White House myself. If legislation emerges without a competitive (truly competitive – non of this GOP-inspired "level playing field" garbage) public option then this has been nothing more than rearranging the deck chairs on the American health titanic.

Don in Grand Rapids, Mi   August 24th, 2009 10:43 am ET

a health economist   August 24th, 2009 10:42 am ET

The Democrats are going to blow this because of their ideologies. The Republicans have a united front against anything the Democrats put out and with the help of special interest groups are successfully preying on the fears of their constituents.

The only way they could get a public option to get by in this day and age of ignorance is to make it a no thrills, bare minimum safety net package. And truthfully, without a single payor approach (which to all of you nay-sayers scared to death of the "S" word is the best way to negotiate for the patient because their would be a monopoly for the consumer) a public plan shouldn't be anything more than a safety net.

Joyce   August 24th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Way to go! I just hope the President listens to her.

Mark - Berwyn, PA   August 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

This crazed woman is an embarrassment to our country and testimony to the lack of intelligent voters in her district. They continued to send an idiot like this to Congress year after year, I guess our education system is the thing that need an overhaul, not healthcare!!!

She needs to sit down and shut up, becuase the foul intent in her voice and words means one thing; she wants this entire country to bend over and do what her consituents want, and the hell with the remaining 80% of the country. Go away Ms. Waters. Go far, far away!!! You and Marion Barry belong in the same camp; the camp of inept, dirty politicians.

matt   August 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Why is this lady so upset? Everyone in her voting district already gets free healthcare through medicaid. An elected official calling other people neanderthals? I have absolutely no respect for Congress, obviously any one can become a member of congress, how can a woman like this be in public office, what a joke. I am now officially embarrased to be called an american. If everything is so bad for this lady here in america why doesn't she move to a country were everything is great, oh right that country doesn't exist. She could still move though, and I don't think anyone would care, some people would probably help pack her bags. Sounds like desparate words from a losing team.

Dave in FL   August 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Stand up for this one Mr. President! You ran on this promise and you need to deliver. Despite what the extreme right wing says. Remember that three quarters of us voted for you. We don't hate you!

Walter   August 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

It will be interesting to see if this proves, once again, the truth of the old saying that in Washington, D.C. the definition of a "gaff" is slipping up and telling the truth.

Edward lawler   August 24th, 2009 10:40 am ET

When she agrees to use the same health care that the rest of us are going to have foisted on us, and to pay the same as the rest of us, I might consider it. Politicians in both parties don't give a crap about any of us and all this is just a power grab. The country is on the road to socialism. Rember the most that have to gain in a socialist society are the ones in power.

Nancy - Houston   August 24th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Applause for Maxine Waters. I could never said it as good as she has!

Patrick   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Agreed... especially Grassley and Boehner.

All they can do is read whatever the healthcare industry tells them to read.

All that is required for that ... a neanderthal.

Mom4Change   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Perhaps Congresswoman Walters needs to be reminded that she, as well as all federal and state elected officials, are put there to represent their constituents. It is The People who decide by voting and by communicating with their elected officials what will and will not be passed. Those "Neantherthals" on "the other side of the aisle" are listening to the overwhelming response from their constituents. I truly believe that the majority of people support health care reform. But don't try to pull the wool over our eyes by sticking 1000+ pages of propaganda down our throats and expect to receive our blessing. It sounds like you need a refresher on The United States Constitution.

Matt   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Neanderthals? So name calling is now the first AND last resort of the righteous? Let me get this straight, the country is rejecting your plans to destroy its healthcare system and instead of taking your constituents seriously... you are name calling? 2010 cannot come soon enough.

dale   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Be careful. You dems go it alone and you have no future. The people are telling you no, better listen. You are "elected" and we should throw your butts in prison if you go against the populous. It's not your call to make. This should be on a ballot.

Sick of it   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Democrats like this make me sick, 100% partisan politics without even a chance of an intelligent dialogue. Make no mistake, these politicians aren't advocating for anyone or anything else besides their own re-election with these kind of speeches.

Bud Smith   August 24th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Maybe President Obama should stop thinking that the blue dog democrats,Droopy Dog Lieberman, and the republicans are very cordial politicians.THEY AREN'T!! It is time for him to assume the attitude of Bush two on the healthcare issue, and say,I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES<AND I'M GOING TO DO IT MY WAY!!!!!

katiec   August 24th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Health Care Reform without Public Option would be a farce, It is the only plan that would make insurance companies become competitive and, perhaps, bring some integrity back into their way of doing business.
We can no longer accept or tolerate big business, lobbyists, special interests and those who support them run, control our country and make crucial decisions on our welfare. Their bottom line is greed and power. Check out how much in campagin these so called blue dogs and the republicans receive in campaign funding etc from the health care entities.
Hatch, who so strongly spoke out against health care reform has received $3 MILLION. Grassley, $2.6 MILLION. It goes on and on.
Politicans who put campaign funding, personal gains and interests before our country and the American people are unacceptable.
People, we must take our country back.

Sue   August 24th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Why is no one talking about the part of the Bill that would force millions of Doctors and Health Care workers into joining a Union. No wonder Big Labor Unions are supporting this and bullying those that attend the Town Hall Meetings.
There is so much that the the regular News Stations aren't reporting. No wonder the public has no faith in them anymore.

Ron   August 24th, 2009 10:38 am ET

"Neanderthals" is being very gererous to the Senators opposing health care reform.

Ben in Texas   August 24th, 2009 10:37 am ET

It's possibly insulting to Neanderthals to compare them to the U.S. Senate. That's the only problem I have with what Rep. Waters said. I mean, we have no evidence that Neanderthals ever took bribes from big corporations.

lou   August 24th, 2009 10:37 am ET

It will be a good day in America when Maxine Waters is no longer elevated to a position well above her abilities. She's nothing but a big mouth with a platform given to her by "the people". If she actually contributed something, that would be different. America is NOT about pushing everyone around just because you have the ability to do it. It is about doing what is best for all the people who are actually paying the money to get everything done.

She's nothing but another Socialist, like NObama, who wants to sell America out while they enjoy the trappings of money and power. Nothing different than the Soviet Elites when they were in power over "the people".

midwest liberal   August 24th, 2009 10:37 am ET

The Democrats have 60 members in the Senate, and an overwhelming majority in the House. The fact that a bill is not done is no one's fault but the Democrats. It's convenient to blame the GOP, but the GOP isn't the problem. They have complete control of Congress. If they are having a hard time, they need to look in the mirror to find the "bad guy". Maybe if they spent less time blaming the GOP and Big Insurance, they could figure out, as a party, what they want, and get it passed.

Shocktroop   August 24th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Isn’t this the same congresswoman that thought Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were do an outstanding job of approving bad loans?

Robin in Tampa, FL   August 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Herding cats would seem to be easier than getting Democrats to all agree to having a Public Option in the health care bill. It's disheartening to see the Democrats not stand together on this issue.

ATR   August 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Neanderthals? Yeah, that about describes Republican senators and reps. They can't have an intellectually honest debate about health care so they make up lies i.e. death panels, rationing, etc. to distract the public from the fact that without health care reform, in a couple of years, very few Americans will have health insurance through their employers because of the rising costs. I have no problem with disagreements on how to get it done, but it seems the Republicans only want to use deception and scare tactics so the health insurance companies can continue to earn record profits and the senators will continue to get their campaign donations. Wake up America, the Republicans do you have your best interest at heart.

carlo   August 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

I'm sure that every conservanut will pounce on this woman. She seems to be the go-to person to bash, along with Pelosi and Frank.. What do you know, an elderly black woman, an elderly Iltalian woman, and a gay man getting picked on. Wingnuttery are so predictable.

She's right, they are acting like neanderthals if they take something that dimwit Palin says and repeats it in front of people. To add insult to injury, they actually believe it.

The Who   August 24th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Free handouts for the irresponsible at the cost of our future, if this country gave out everything the public demanded we would be bankrupt in a week.

ChecksAndBalances   August 24th, 2009 10:35 am ET

It is not the President's job to tell representatives what to do. They are in seperate branches of government for very good reasons. Senators and Congress members are supposed to represent their Constituents, not the President. Congratulations to Maxine for helping to drop the bar yet again; name calling always helps.

Wouldn't it be nice if instead of name calling and playing politics our representatives would explain in detail what their issues with the plan are and those on the other side could defend with facts? I suppose it is futile to ask our elected representatives to act like adults instead of spoiled little children.

Dan   August 24th, 2009 10:34 am ET

I wonder what Ms. Waters would say if we called her a porch monkey. It would be nice if the Dems could keep their comments above board. It would certainly help their case.

twitwits are the new nitwits   August 24th, 2009 10:34 am ET

Mike   August 24th, 2009 10:33 am ET

No matter how many Democrats come out and beg the President for a public option, the question still remains:

Will any of Washington's high ranking Democrats switch their families to the public option health care plan?

The American public knows the answer to that question is an astounding "NO", which is the exact same answer that the Republicans will give.

The fact that nobody in Washington will go out on limb and put their family on this plan tells you that the health care will be poor and costly.

Alan   August 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Isn't it funny out the "enlightened" left starts name calling when they are being soundly defeated in the arena of ideas.

Capt Kirk   August 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

Maxine Walters, an admitted Socialist, never cared for any other race other than her own. When the mob of rioters from the Crenshaw district marched on Korea Town and were meet with armed resistance, she condemned the Korean community for being violent, instead of trying to to stop the crazed welfare thugs. Maxine Walters is a female cloned image of her god: a liar and a hypocrite!

Bill from GA   August 24th, 2009 10:32 am ET

The Dems need to realize that American voters put them in the majority to change the government.

Another racist Democrat   August 24th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Waters favorite platform for her lazy constituents – which are are largely in gangs, on welfare, receiving unemployment, or are in jail -is for the goernment to pay their way through life. Senators who oppose the Obama health care legislation do so for about 100 different good and valid reasons, but because it takes someone with an IQ higher than a dining room table, Waters, Barney Frank, and many more Dems just do not get it. Change is coming Ms Waters - as in a change in her employment status in DC when the mid terms come along

Fernandez   August 24th, 2009 10:31 am ET

Debra R   August 24th, 2009 10:30 am ET

I guess it is OK for a socialist to call others she does not agree with Neandrathals....if anyone else called a liberal democrat who supports wthis crap an asassin of the middle class and someone who was part of the problem by exempting herself from the program a two faced hypocrite that would be going too far....

Coming from Mad Maxine, those remarks are downright temperate.

brad   August 24th, 2009 10:29 am ET

It's not a reform without the public option. Obama already has dropped the single pay user to appease the other side. DON'T DROP THIS! Something has got to change. Going to happen one way or the other as soon nobody including myself can't afford the premium. PLUS. As an hearing impaired person, I don't think it fair to have to deal with the pre existing issue. This health care deal IS the underlying issue with our economy woes. Fix it and you fix so many things. I just don't understand this. Such common sense. Yes, there will be some abuse but already there are so many as is.

Roger   August 24th, 2009 10:29 am ET

I could not agree more....some of the Blue Dog Dems are acting like the party of "NO"/GOP....if the health care program does pass now it will not pass within the near future & will probably mean Obama will be a one term president....he under estimated the power of the GOP when it comes to doing whatever it takes to destroy something that effects their special interest groups (insurance companies) I do not mean this in a "bad" way but most republicans will do & believe whatever their leadership tells them...most still thnk GW was a great president. they seem to be ignorant when it comes to the GOP...Also the news media should not only report the outburst in the town hall meetings they should be investigating who is behind the LIES being told...

TCM   August 24th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Waters is highly favored to lose in 2010. She's one to pander to the poor, to keep them poor, and dangle entitlement carrots in front of them to secure their votes....get rid of this facade!

AJ   August 24th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Is this how the far left liberals want to govern the American people by ramming expensive legislature up their behinds , regardless of what the majority wants ?? Why are they in office ? I know . Because they promise lots of FREEBEES !!! And I got news for Maxine, Obama really isn't a very nice guy. He just wants to stay in office too !!

Scott   August 24th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Maxine=If you have, we want to take. If you need, we want to give. But once we give then you have and we want to take.

Chas in Iowa   August 24th, 2009 10:28 am ET

It's fairly obvious that the majority of the GOP senators have other driving factors swaying their opinions over health care. I'm not sure if it the millions the insurance company lobbyists are poring into their campain coffers. Or the uninformed publics knee jerk reaction to the right wing radio propoganda machine. It is surely not their constituents.

It's time to kiss bypartisenship goodbye and do what is right for the country. Let's move health care reform ahead now!

Mary in Georgia   August 24th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Well, she may have a point. In this debate, I expect panicked, uninformed hyperbole to be spewed from the masses who can't name six of the seven continents. I'm a little surprised to hear it coming from our senators. I mean, I don't agree with many senators, but I still expect they had to have a modicum of intelligence to trick people into voting for them.

Philly Chilly   August 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Way to go

Jeff   August 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

That's right, keep it mature and reasonable, Maxi. It's a great strategy: Mr. President, do what we tell you to do regardless of what the American public tells you to do.

If there were ever any doubt that the President is in the back pocket of the liberal lunatic fringe, I think this health-care debate clears it up. He will do exactly what she (and Pelosi, and Frank, and Reid) are telling him to do: push forward with a government takeover of healthcare in spite of the misgivings of the American people. Blame it on the Republicans. Then, when the whole thing blows up in our faces (huge deficits, tax increases, lost employer-sponsored plans, more and more people on the government plan, eventual rationing), they will still say it was the Republicans' fault for not playing along.

They'll take the credit for passing the stupid thing, then blame the Republicans when all of the bad predictions come true.

You go, Maxi.

Ron In California   August 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Right Leaning Independent   August 24th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Hey Maxine, how about looking at the poll numbers and understanding that the majority of Americans do not want your government health care plan. Also, YOU are one of the reasons for the financial problems today. YOU were in the Bush era hearings with the regulator on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. You continued to look in the other direction when evidence was produced to show these companies were in trouble in 2003. You chose to rebuke these folks so that poor folks could continue receiving loans they could not afford. Shame on you for ruining more peoples lives. You have proven your ignorance so why anyone would listen to you today is beyond comprehension...!!!!

Dilligaf   August 24th, 2009 10:26 am ET

Lots of really arrogant and inept Duhmocratic Congressman, and she's close to the top, although Pelosi, Murtha, Obey and Frank are right up there with her. The Dumocratic mantra -> We don't care what's in it, or what it costs, or how it destroys the country, just pass it!

Carole   August 24th, 2009 10:26 am ET

I am tired of CNN covering McCain/LIEbermann. The election is over for a reason.

James   August 24th, 2009 10:25 am ET

No Ms. Waters, many Neanderthals would be very disgusted by the wanton policial behaviour of the Republicans. They want to spin lies, hate and fear just to get back in power. It has nothing to do with Healthcare, it has everything to do with power.

Very professional behavior. Waters does a great job reping her constituents, who I'm guessing aren't quite as refined as Neanderthals.

AeroRiley   August 24th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Who is this woman? She calls other senators "neanderthals" for having a different opinion? She obviously does not care what the public wants. Even though there are better options to consider and we must fix some of the system regardless of who controls health care, she would rather push through this public option bill and ruin our country than try to get it right. Yeah Democracy!

She is right. We need a public option. The republicans would be the first ones to sign up for it, but they would rather see the president fail, so they will say, and do anything to prevent this from passing!

Republicans, and their wastelands that we fly over, are useless. We don't need anything that they produce. They aren't anything more than flamboyant and ignorant, power hungry slobs!

Loren   August 24th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Congresswoman Waters comments just show that the legislation is not about what's best for the United States, but what's best for the Democratic Party. If it were about the united States, then bi-partisanship would be a high priority, but this is pandering for votes at its worst. The Democrats went along with the Republicans in creating the economic mess, and now are taking advantage to plunge our country further into outof control debt. I would say Representative Waters should be ashamed of herself, but she ha been all about getting herself reelected and the benefits that go with that all along, so she has no shame.

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   August 24th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Regressive Party Refugee (former republican)   August 24th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Neaderthals with a very cynical and detailed strategy aimed only at stirring people up, regardless of whether what they are shouting has any basis in reality. They have mastered the art of fear mongering, evidenced by the fact that they have Americans riled up about losing a choice they don't really have, putting someone between them and their doctor when that is already the case, the possibility of needed care being denied when that already happens time and time again, and forcing them to remain employed when this plan might offer them freedom from that.

jay   August 24th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Why is it everyone who opposes anything the Democrats want classified in three ways. Racists, knuckledragging neandertals, or rich people out of touch?

Drew HEitner   August 24th, 2009 10:20 am ET

The republicans are not capable of bipartisenship.
The effort has made its point to underscore our willingness to work together. This onlt explodes in our face as every olive branch from dem to rep is returned as a flaming arrow.
It is time for the dems to march in unison without concern for the petty opposition of the minority. Their loyalties lie elsewhere than the good benefits to our nation.
Come Mother's and Father's throughout the land,
And don't critisize what you can't understand,
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command.
The old road is rapidly fading.

BTW...has anyone commenting actually read the bill?..do you think the gov't is going to cure cancer?...let alone keep paying for your treatments?...there is a clause that allows a one time pay-out per year of $10,000 per family...hope you don't have two sick people in your family!

nurse   August 24th, 2009 10:18 am ET

Looking at her picture ...she might want to rethink calling people names . But then again that IS what libs do best .

Stephen Steele   August 24th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Sorry Lady. But the Republicans are the only ones who are concerned about and fighting for the American People. Spending the USA into bankruptcy as a country while it is the goal of the Democratic Party is not very helpful to us citizens as we must pay the bills for your nutty ideas.

a cynical commentator   August 24th, 2009 10:17 am ET

If you need their help. It won't make it easier by calling them morons in their face.
Don't forget Bill Clinton lost the majority in the house and senate in the 104th congress while he was trying to jam his version of a healthcare reform through "our" throaths. Don't expect anything different this time, Bill's mandate wasn't too much different, 258 reps and 56 sens, compared Obama's 256 reps and 598(+2)sen. And Bill was more sympathetic.

Dennis   August 24th, 2009 10:16 am ET

Maxine Waters is so out of touch with mainstream America. She is on the fringe of wackyhood.

RI Moderate   August 24th, 2009 10:16 am ET

Rep Waters – when you resort to name-calling you have lost the argument!

The American public is just not in the mood to spend a trillion dollars on something that no one has been able to explain clearly.

Yes, health care reform is needed, but let's have a serious discussion of all the complex issues of this instead of trying to jam their opinion of what's right down people's throats (lefties) or making up lies (righties).

And please, act like a congressperson should and stop the name-calling.

John, Brooklyn, NY   August 24th, 2009 10:15 am ET

My only criticism with this particular speech has nothing to do with the "neanderthal" comment but, rather, with her clumsy use of metaphor...

"....every weapon in your basket..."????

Who carries weapons in baskets?

razmataz   August 24th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Typical lib behavior, demonize, marginalize, name-calling. What gets me is that no one in the country is opposed to healthcare reform. It's just that no one wants the government running that show.
We're already seeing what can happen; Cash-for-Clunkers, great for car-buyers, a nightmare for dealers. That was just a 3 billion dollar program. And folks want to trust the government to run a multi-trillion dollar program, yeah, that makes sense.
Just announced this morning – social security recipients will NOT get a COLA raise this year, first time since 1975 when COLA raises first began.
While the elderly won't be getting thier COLA raise this year, their Medicare premiums will go up. And there are still folks out there that think this is a good idea.

Mississippi Mike   August 24th, 2009 10:15 am ET

Maxine Waters isn't exactly a beacon of ethical behavior so her remarks aren't very surprising. Congress has two parties and proportional voting because it's widely understood that there is never a consensus and that all opinions need to be heard. The Democrats and the president don't want Republicans to have any input in this conversation or to alter the bill in any way, they want to cow the GOP into supporting this legislation regardless of what their constituents want. It's not going to happen and if the Democrats push this garbage bill through the results will be disastrous for the Democrats. Waters is in a very liberal district so the effects on her will be minimal, that's why she is so free to spout this rubbish.

andrea   August 24th, 2009 10:14 am ET

I applaud Maxine Walters for her very accurate characterization of member of the GOP as Neaderthals. As for senator Lieberman, he is wrong on this issue: a very significant, though not the only one, cause of this recession is the hemorrhage of dollars towards the privately run health care system in this country.

Doug   August 24th, 2009 10:13 am ET

She is doing such a great job in bankrupt California that people should listen to her ... NOT. She and the other liberal democrats are idiots. We know there are not enough doctors and not enough money to support a government health care system, not even mentioning that all government run programs are horribly run. At some point you have to quit giving people stuff for free or you will bankrupt everyone – look at California.

Ralph   August 24th, 2009 10:13 am ET

His definition of bipartisanship is to do everything his way.

Nice to see that the left can call the right what ever they want and the media sits back and lets this slide. Thanks CNN, MSNBC etc for being fair and balanced . This woman is wrong and sounds like a five year old who isn't getting there way. She is just crying that the nation has rejected the riotous rights let the government take over your life agenda and it would be nice to see a media outlet show that people do not want this single payer crap.

Just Me   August 24th, 2009 10:12 am ET

Well..some of them are worst than Neandathals. In my opinion, many of them are in the hands of big business who are buttering the other side of their breads. They will do anything to keep this country at status quo where the rich benfit the most and eyeone else make do. Many of these neathdathals needs to be thrown out of congress the next time they are up for election.

Disgusting.

That is their strategy because they've wanted you to fail from day one. That will not change.

SO! Let's get moving on Health Care Reform- get it done.

John Santoro   August 24th, 2009 10:10 am ET

Thankfully we have Maxine Waters in Congress.

nicholas   August 24th, 2009 10:10 am ET

I agree with the congress woman. The GOP is not interested in bipartisanship and they are not interested in anything reasonable that the President has to offer. The only thing they are interested in is undermining the president to try and claw their way back to power
even at the expense of ordinary Americans. In my mind the GOP is the
#1 threat to American national security and interests.

Lastly, the GOP fear tactics over health care are a colossal shame. I live in Canada where we have universal health care. As a teacher employed buy the government, I have dental, vision, extended health care and much more. I can arrange for an appointment with my doctor and possibly see her the same day, or go to the after hours clinic the same day, or go to the hospital emergency the same day. And it costs me $zero dollars.

If we can afford this in Canada and avoid the severity of the recession that Americans have experienced, why can't the richest country in the world afford public health care?

Better follow Obama NOW our pay the price later.

Nathan,   August 24th, 2009 10:09 am ET

She's correct in her coments about bipartisan support. The Republicans have no intention of helping this President get anything done. He needs to stop trying to get them to come along. He will be gauged on how sucessful his programs are and not by how many Republicans he can get to come along.

I do however disagree with her assessment of the Republicans as Neanderthals. At the very least they have evolved into Cro-magnons. With the exception of Michelle Bachman and that chick from Russian's backyard. They 2 are still Neaderthaettes.

Such hate filled liberals like this are now in control, is it any wonder the country is a mess?

She's right. Take a look at some of this idiots who seem to be living in the 1950s. Hope Obama goes for this. Those senators who appose him should be fired or retired or both.

Nagudcm Sugna   August 24th, 2009 10:07 am ET

ghostwriter   August 24th, 2009 10:06 am ET

While bipartisan support is a good thing, the Democrats have to be prepared to go it alone. Republicans appear to be baiting the Democrats to do just that saying things like, "they have the numbers....."

At this point, I'd say present a few plans to the public and let's hash thru them and see what we can come up with. Some republican points aren't bad and could have a place in the final draft, like crossing state lines and tort reform that limits doctor liability.

rjr   August 24th, 2009 10:06 am ET

Democrats are not happy when the Republicans use the same tactics???? And then they enlightened ones revert to name calling? How sad.

SJ   August 24th, 2009 10:06 am ET

Sorry to say, but the truth hurts sometimes. There are a good number of Republicans for whom the "Neanderthal" label is painfully accurate.

Bubba   August 24th, 2009 10:05 am ET

gae   August 24th, 2009 10:05 am ET

About time we heard from a Dem with a spine. Obama won. We voted for change. We voted for national health care. Lets have it. Get your party in line and you don't need a single Neanderthal vote.

Terry   August 24th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Oh Maxine:

Your biggest problem are your fellow Democrats. Your party owns this debacle. Nice try though!

Ian   August 24th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Yeah ... this is helpful ... exactly what we need. More pointless rhetoric that leads us to a more divisive political landscape than we already have.

Rob   August 24th, 2009 10:05 am ET

President Obama, Should not back down on the public option. If he does it will be as if he did nothing. No costs will be saved, no improvements will be extended. It is time for change America write your senators and congress persons and tell them we need comprehensive health care change that INCLUDES a PUBLIC OPTION!!! it is the only competition that will drive down costs.

No Incumbents 2010   August 24th, 2009 10:03 am ET

Rep. Waters should be lauded for her honesty which is all the more striking when compared to the lies about "death panels" and "pulling the plug on grandma".

JS007   August 24th, 2009 10:03 am ET

She's right, and I'm glad someone has the spine to say it. You've got a bunch of ignorant, cynical, bought out old men who give themselves excellent health insurance from the government purse and then deny it to the neediest among us. Some of these guys even voted against S-CHIP (health insurance for POOR KIDS). They pander to Christianity by trying to take away human rights from gays while picking up guys at airport bathrooms. Then there's the war mongering and the racism on top of it all. I could not say it any better than she has.

Charles   August 24th, 2009 10:02 am ET

Thanks, Maxine! Your typical foot-in-mouth comments means I have to put up with my Rep friends' comments about you and Obama all day long. Way to move the health care debate away from the mudslinging everyone supposedly despises. Thanks, again!

jake   August 24th, 2009 10:02 am ET

out with the old, in with the new I say. the comment was a big pejorative but we get what shes saying.. GOP are backwards thinking, conservative older types who dislike change and want things to stay "how they always were" .. ie profiting big industry and screwing the little guy.

I agree with Maxine, it's time for Obama to get tough and lead if all the GOP wants to do is kill everything the Democratic Party proposes.. we elected the Democrats, now we want them to push THEIR agenda.. Bush and the GOP had their turn and look what they accomplished.

Geesh!!!   August 24th, 2009 10:01 am ET

I'm a liberal Democrat, but even from my perspective Obama and his Congressional supporters are approaching this *ALL WRONG*!

The blatant elitist attitude of "We're in charge, now do as we say!" serves no one. The desire to pass such a huge plan of enormous financial proportions in breakneck time is both arrogant and dangerous.

No even the Clinton administration dared try to press for approval so quickly (an dI strongly supported the Clinton proposal).

Take a breath, Democrats, and stop thinking that everyone except yourselves are idiots. Sometimes he who thinks others are idiots, is himself the biggest idiot of all. :-)

Yes, ms waters, encourage obama to disregard what the American people want.. After all, it's about you liberals forcing your demands on others. That's okay ms waters, what you see now is the usually silent majority speaking out, something you're obviously not used to seeing. You liberals always talk about bipartisanship but only when you think you have the advantage. I'm sure ms waters, that most of your constituents are used to the government taking care of them but I guess there are more people who like to run their own lives than you realize. You liberals need to stop playing God and let me make my own choices with my own money and not steal it from me to take care of your lazy drones.

Kimo   August 24th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Let's not insult neanderthals, nor conservatives shall we. Dissent should not result in name calling. This example of arrogant liberal behavior cheapens the valid arguments for needed health care reform. If the public option is valid, the option should stand on it's own feet; if not, then other options will (and should) remain on the table.

Joyce from South Carolina   August 24th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I hope that she and all of the people in Congress who have the best interest of average americans in their hearts will stand their ground on the public option. We desperately need the public option. The insurance companies have exploited Americans for way too long.

It is time to do the right thing!!!!

This is EXACTLY the type of things the Demmocrats need to do. Stop being spineless and fire back at the morons who are spreading the lies to the "somehow uninformed" who think health care is perfectly fine. The WH and the Democrats need to put out a plan that includes the public option and have Congress vote on that bill.

If it doesn't pass, then it'll be on record through the annuls of history of whom was in favor of protecting their precious pocketbooks rather than America's greatest commodity – it's people (and not just the greedy rich at that).

At this point I don't see the point in passing any healthcare reform as it exists. The stupid democrats have caved on anything resembling real reform. They could have proposed single payer and made the republicans comprimise with a public option, but no. They never even put it on the table. Now it looks like there will be no public option. So what are we left with? It'll probably turn out to be some sort of mandate where everyone is required to buy insurance and low income folks will get some sort of subsidy. Weak. All this will do is make more money for the insurance companies. Some reform. The freakin' democrats blew it. Wait until your insurance and healthcare costs double and medicare collapses because of the aging baby boom. Then maybe something real will get done. Have a nice day!

Kevin   August 24th, 2009 9:49 am ET

It's about time the Democrats grew a pair and stood up the extremely misinformed Republicans. There's no way Obama is going to get these guys on his side. Even if they thought the public option was a good idea, they have to do whatever Rush Limbaugh says or they don't stand a change of getting reelected.

Sam Sixpack   August 24th, 2009 9:48 am ET

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, Obama's Special Advisor for Health Policy, says, "services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia."

The "Neaderthals" who oppose this kind of thinking will be added to the list.

tom   August 24th, 2009 9:46 am ET

LOL...this person is a joke; "Yes, we know that you are a nice man, that you want to work with the opposite side of the aisle. But there comes a time when you need to drop that and move forward," she said. " Stroke obama some more, then state false info on the GOP; riddle me this, why are NONE of the BIPARTISAN bills being discussed or developed? There is the Big 6 working on a bill with no public option yet true REFORM in health care yet no attention is being given to it. These career politicians who are clearly looking out for 'their side' do not have America's intentions in mind, only how to get Dems re-elected. With no respect intended, this woman is a POS.

Rose   August 24th, 2009 9:46 am ET

Waters has been around too long too. Doesn't she listen to the people, most of us don't want what they are offering. I bet she hasn't even read HR 3200. She, like most of the Dems. think they know what is good for us with regard to health care.

keisha   August 24th, 2009 9:45 am ET

Hmmm. I wonder if Maxine includes herself among the Neanderthals?

RAG   August 24th, 2009 9:45 am ET

Some Republicans are not Neanderthals, more like Australopithecenes. True knuckle draggers.

Then the Sarah Palin / Rush Limbaugh wing of the party are not even chordates.

Buckeye   August 24th, 2009 9:44 am ET

Don't insult the Neanderthals. At least they invented the use of fire for cooking food. Many US Senators have done nothing burn down The House and take food from the hungry.

GIBBS   August 24th, 2009 9:44 am ET

ms waters....you my dear are nothing but an idiot!

Jane   August 24th, 2009 9:43 am ET

As usual, the democrats are willing to trash the country and further divide it to gain the power they crave.

Pitiful

The Teester   August 24th, 2009 9:42 am ET

Of course the Republicans are Neanderthals and Leiberman is an old white guy who jumped ship. Hell with them Mr. President, move forward and the tide will again be with you...

NVa Native   August 24th, 2009 9:42 am ET

"Neanderthals" is being generous. These Republican op-posers are being arrogant, ignorant, and selfish, as is usual for their ideology and theology.
It's the "I got mine, screw you mentality" of the whole Republican party – base and otherwise.

Nelson Alexander   August 24th, 2009 9:41 am ET

Good for her! The public option is absolutely essential if we are ever to wind down our unjust, costly, irrational, broken-down, lobbyist-driven healthcare system. The Democrats have proven cowardly and corrupt on what should have been their foremost issue. Even now, they are still cowed by the corporate lobbyists and the propaganda of Reaganism.

MLH   August 24th, 2009 9:41 am ET

That might be a little hard on the Neanderthals. Some politicans and their stooges are willfully distorting the truth in an effort to make sure an bill fails. Some American citizens are taking them at their word instead of reading the material that is so easily at hand.

Listen up politicians. The reason we elected President Obama was because we wanted what he proposed. You should consider that carefully when refusing to work with the Dems on national issues. Right now you look like the party that says No, except when it comes to war and torture.

Realist   August 24th, 2009 9:40 am ET

WOW, way to act professional. Why was this woman ever elected?

Big Ed   August 24th, 2009 9:40 am ET

Liebermann...a Republican in cheap clothing. If McCain has a public appearance, McCain's lapdog, joe Liebermann is sure to be at his side. What a schmuck!

Andrea   August 24th, 2009 9:39 am ET

Co-SIgn Ms. Waters! President Obama has definitely reached out again and again to a hard hearted block of idiots. Time to move on. People are suffering and need the relief that this plan can bring. It is about the people, not the politics and not the Insurance Companies. The Republicans are jerks who offer excuses and no solutions, but have plenty of nothing to say about everything. They are irrelevant. And soon to be extinct. Just like the dinasours that they sooooooo resemble.

Liberty Queen   August 24th, 2009 9:38 am ET

California Democratic Representative Maxine Waters is right, there are alot of kunckle-dragging Neanderthals in the Republican party...boys trembling in their high heels and panties at the mere thought of Powerful Women everywhere.

Lea   August 24th, 2009 9:37 am ET

Does that mean the constiuents are also Neanderthals? After all we are ultimately responsible for who is representing us. Senator Waters either doesn't understand that many of our representatives' constiuents don't want this plan, or, she is willfully ignoring it.

Being against a single payer system does not equate to being against reform.

Melissa   August 24th, 2009 9:37 am ET

I'm with the Congresswoman on this one.

Barbara Independent in NY   August 24th, 2009 9:36 am ET

Congresswoman Waters is absolutely right, too many members of Congress are buried in what was or is instead of what could be. And, Lieberman, does fit the description.

Robert   August 24th, 2009 9:36 am ET

I have no time today to elaborate on any of this and am tired of trying to explain things to simpletons who don't understand the basics and don't "get" what's good for them.
Joe Lieberman is an arse. John McCain is an arse. Sarah Palin is a double wide. All 3 are neanderthals. Maxine Waters is right. Obama is right.
That's enough for today. That's all you twits deserve and are getting from me.

Bevans   August 24th, 2009 9:36 am ET

This woman is so out of touch with reality it is not even close to being funny. Do people in California not get it? They have gone from a top 10 World economic leader to the bottom of the barrel with high unemployment, a huge deficit and an immigration problem..and yet this women thinks that by adding more to the government payroll under the guise of healthcare will help.....step out into the light and get out from under the rock you live under...this will increase taxes and dependency on the government...not a good combo. this bill does nothing to address cost and without torte reform you will get people like this woman insulting Neanderthals...

roscoe   August 24th, 2009 9:36 am ET

Maxine ... yes there are some Neanderthals. Think about a few who have been around too long. Specter, Byrd, Leahey, Kennedy, Feinstein, and Boxer. All Democrats.

gt   August 24th, 2009 9:36 am ET

no surprise here ,,, here district is one that takes tax dollars ,,, and does not pay much of anything back in,,,,

Henry Miller, Libertarian   August 24th, 2009 9:33 am ET

If you can't attack the message, attack the messenger?

The flaming-lib Dems seem to be getting desperate...

Cromwell   August 24th, 2009 9:32 am ET

I totally agree with Maxine Waters.
Darn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

The Republicans are worse than Neanderthals.
They are Feudalists.

J. Rich   August 24th, 2009 9:28 am ET

The reason Americans are opposed to National Health Care is that it is too "Robin Hood" the taking from the wealthy to pay for the poor, that is not fair, and give the poor no incentive to better themselves.
I am a registered Independent, but this is the reason that the GOP is now regrouping and why Nobama will be one term.
It is not right for the rich or the wealthy to pay for anyone else.
Oh, I am not rich, I ride the bus
