(CNN) - Among President Obama's first activities on Martha's Vineyard: a friendly tennis match against wife Michelle.
White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters Monday on the Massachusetts island the first couple squared off earlier this morning, though it remains a secret who won.
Burton also revealed Obama is set to play golf later in the day with South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, UBS CEO and major Obama supporter Robert Wolf, and White House aide Marvin Nicholson.
As for the rest of the week, Burton offered few details, saying the president himself doesn't even have a particular schedule.
"He's on vacation, so everything is a little bit loose," he said.
Burton, however, did dispel reports the president is planning on visiting ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy in nearby Hyannis Port.
"I heard some reports today that the Secret Service had visited Hyannis Port. I don't think that there's any reason to believe that there's any plan to go to Hyannis Port at this point," he said. "I think that if Secret Service agents were there, they probably heard like all of you already know, that they have great lobster rolls out there."
Burton also said it's unlikely Obama will spend much time mingling with residents of the 23-mile long island.
"His desire on Martha's Vineyard is to get a little break," he said. "He certainly appreciates the hospitality of the folks who are here, but his desire here is to relax and spend time with the family."

Thank you Obama – you deserve a vacation!!! Hopefully the rest will help so that when you return we can get Health Care reform passed, despite the party of NO!
So apparently, the government sees no need to watch over domestic and foreign affairs in the summer....?!?!? ...thanks Politicos, I always knew you were useless, but this goes too far...this guy's playing golf and we're all trying to figure out how to make it to Tuesday....get real Barry.
I'm ashamed of all you haters in this country. All you whine and complain about is wanting President Obama to get out of town. Well when he does leave town, you complain about him taking time off while we are in this crisis. Make up your feeble minds or wait until he has taken as much vacation time as George Bush, who I beleive took about 23 or 24 days off in Aug. of one year.
You people got to much free time on your hands and watch to much TV and beleive to much of what you hear. You all need to go out and get a life.
Let's relax here a bit people!! The guy has been working his tail off and doing a fantastic job digging us out of the hole W and the Retards, ahem, I mean Republicans left him/us. By the way, those other "trips" were to try to get the word/truth out about health care reform. Not that you idiot, uneducated, conservative, naysayers would understand that.
Funny how the same guy keeps posting that SO many American's are seeing Obama in different light now and changing their minds. The polls surely don't show it.
FACT: Democrats won the election by an overwhelming MAJORITY – undisputed. It looks to me like more Americans finally saw the country headed in the wrong direction and decided to change it.
So the Dems (I'm NOT one) get to run the country for a bit. The minority (Republicans) should stop whining that they lost. Their policies just didn't work.
Who cares?!? Leave them alone on their vacation.
would like to see you back at the white house barry. lets cut this short, and get to working,. its only been 6 months. i pay your salary pal, you don't deserve a vacation yet
Don't get it twisted...it's "Barack" Hussein Obama and he's proud of it!!!
After the mess that G.W. Bush created, I doubt any sane person could right the"ship" immediately. Obama will eventually start this country on the road to prosperity, but it might take a while. It is easy to be impateint while all the losses pile up in our economy. The trends will be reversed as soon as this country trys to compete with the rest of the world, and jobs become plentiful for all Americans. Enjoy Martha's Vineyard. It a terrific spot to vacation. I've been there several times myself as a guest. Great spot to eat lobsters at "Larsens" near where Obama is staying. Ice cream there is homemade and delicious.
Obama deserves a permanent vacation. He has earned it.
Not sure if you people realize but Obama is paying his own way for himself and his family on this trip. Taxpayers are only paying for Security accomodations which they have to do no matter where the President is. Please stop holding Obama to different standards than other Presidents. Yes, people are out of work and we are in a recession but why don't you pick on celebs who make millions a year. No matter what your opinion is of Obama he is working for us as he was elected to do.
Tell the haters to go back to bed and wake up with civility in their hearts...and to stand up as americans and love everyone....even their ownselves....
"By the time President Bush returns to Washington on Labor Day after the longest presidential vacation in 32 years, he will have spent all or part of 54 days since the inauguration at his parched but beloved ranch. That's almost a quarter of his presidency.
Throw in four days last month at his parents' seaside estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and 38 full or partial days at the presidential retreat at Camp David, and Bush will have spent 42 percent of his presidency at vacation spots or en route. "
Concidering it was Bush that left Obama so much trash to clean up, I think Obama can afford to take at least a small percentage of time off compared to what Bush took.
It's good to know that at least Obama deserves to take the time off, unlike Bush.
Who cares....?
Wait, I think he just blew his nose!! Hurry CNN, maybe you can cover that amazing event...hurry....hurry!!
Really- good way to spend taxpayer dollars- I sleep well knowing I did not vote for him!
Dear CNN, Where do you get off calling the President by his first name...(your opening topic). I've never seen you call President Bush "George." Give the man some respect and a little privacy wouldn't hurt either.
Oh good, I'll be able to sleep better knowing this...maybe someday I'll be able to take a vacation just like the President...in the meantime, I'll work my two jobs.
I have never seen so many hateful people. Get a life. You never said anything when President Bush spent HALF of his presidency on vacation. You should also know your facts before you post. The President is paying for everything but accomodations for the Secret Service. How did America become so hateful. How sad.
Dear Conservatives:
Keep on making your nasty comments. They are simply proof of how mean-spirited, lame and ignorant you all are.
Mr President, enjoy your few days of R and R with your family!
I think that President Obama's vacation and his trips overseas, etc., give him no time to see the negativity of what is going on in this country.
His staff is definitely not doing him any good. He should check and fire
some of them and their leftists methods.
Let pray that he will "CHANGE" the bad and sad situation that we all are facing.
Respectfully,
Dania Alvarez
Whether you agree with his policies and politics or not, this president has worked harder in the 7 months he's been in office than his predecessor worked in the four years he was in office. (Remember how many vacations George Bush took??!! More than any president on record.) This is President Obama's first real break since Jan. 20 in what is arguably the highest-pressure job in the world. We should HOPE he has the common sense to take a break - he needs a clear head and lots of energy to fix the complete trainwreck he inherited from his completely incompetent predecessor.
Funny how the President asked for privacy on his vacation, but the White House has to give play by play action...Does he or Doesn't he...A little Wishy Washy if you ask me.
Seriously, CNN?? Headlines for the last 8 years: "Bush lied about WMD", "Bush and Cheney No-Bid Halliburton", "Bush Stumbles in Europe". Headlines in past 6 months: "Obama Swats Fly", "Sasha Wakes Up President at 4 AM", and "Tennis, Golf for Obama on Day One". Good heavens, have a slight, teeny, iota bit of dignity.
This guy sucks at everything he does, the only thing this clown is good at is spending our money.
So Bush taking a vacation was bad but it's ok for Obama?
hypocrites.
(and for the record, no, I don't have a problem with him taking a break, my problem is with his mouth-breathing supporters.)
