(CNN) - The White House has said President Obama plans to play golf and spend time with his family during his week away from Washington.
But it appears the president also wants to get some reading in: a lot of it.
White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters Monday Obama's vacation reading list comprises five books, including tomes from New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and historian David McCullough.
In all, the books on Obama's list total around 2,300 pages - meaning the president would have to read close to 300 pages each day of his week-long vacation to polish off the list.
Should Obama prefer to listen to the books on his iPod, four are available in audio format with a total running time of nearly 40 hours.

what was the trip to the grand canyon, the trip with the family (we paid for all of this travel) to Europe, Africa and Russia... oh wait, americans don't have money to pay bills or buy food but its ok to travel the world on americans dime...but I do have to admit they are conserving money with those vegetables they planted in the back of the White House... it will cost the public thousands to replant and repair the lawn once the obamas are out of the office... smart!
Lets remember Camp David, tours in Russia, then France and the family there and tours of an african counrty, then out west to national parks, and now a east coast beach. Oh, don't forget the "culture parties" at the white house. How about some work to make the health care readable to all???? How much does it cost to fly the air force one per hour??? Waste, like filying to Mexico to give money to the corrupt police.....they have our jobs there because of NAFTA and illegals take jobs here from college students. They need a vacation, I do not think so. Just think of all the money spent on this and unemployment is high here and so is the money running out in most states for unemployment checks.

So should all the misinformed fear-mongering shills the neocons send to the town halls. Fact is, it's 1,000 pages, a little longer than your average thick novel, but only like 50 words per page. The margins are like 2 inches all around and the print is huge. Anyone blabbering about it being too long etc etc probably can't get thru a Yogi Bear coloring book without a headache, let alone the funnies section of a rural newspaper, and shouldn't be allowed to comment unless and until graduating 5th grade.
Are these people ever NOT on vacation. First Europe, then Yellowstone, then whitewater rafting in Wyoming, then sight-seeing at the Grand Canyon, and this week……Martha's Vineyard. Wow! What a SWEET GIG!! Too bad we all have to pay for it.

Really? That fact that anybody actually cares about this, and that CNN seems to think this is news worthy is appalling. How about this Mr. President? How about apologizing to each and every American citizen, their children and their children's children for what you and the rest of our disgraceful government (Pelosi, Frank, Specter, etc...) have thrown upon them? As long as we're talking vacations...where was all the indignation when W took his 977 (that's right, count 'em) vacation days? That does not even include his Sunday stay-cations when he happened to be in town. The double standard is shameful.

As for those suggesting Obama read the Constitution, the health care bills, and "Atlas Shrugged", bear in mind that this president is a constitutional scholar, the health bills are not finalized (and in any case do not contain anything about "death panels") and "Atlas Shrugged" is intellectual garbage and literary trash.
