(CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appears to be involved in another scheduling mishap, the fourth time in as many months organizers of an event expected an appearance from the GOP star only to discover at the last minute she would not attend.
The latest confusion involves an Alaska Family Council event Thursday night to promote a state ballot issue that would make it illegal for anyone under 18 years old to obtain an abortion without parental consent.
While the organization continues to bill Palin on its Web site as the top speaker at the kickoff for a statewide signature drive, a spokeswoman for the former governor says Palin had never agreed to participate, nor was she even asked.
"To this very moment, she has never been asked to give a speech at a public venue," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.
Instead, Stapleton said, event organizers had invited Palin to attend a private fundraiser for the organization - but she declined the invitation because of prior out-of-state plans.
"The governor notified the group that she is out of town, but would make a donation," Stapleton said. "And she did also mention that since people have already begun signing the petition, she could sign the petition when she returns in the near future."
While a source places blame for the mixup on the group, saying Palin has been "set up a few times before" by Alaska Family Council President Jim Minnery, such scheduling snafus appear to have become a regular occurrence for Palin, one of the Republican Party's most popular figures.
Minnery has not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.
In August, it was announced she would not attend a California Republican women's group event after that organization had promoted her appearance for weeks.
Confusion also surrounded Palin's involvement in events earlier this year including the Conservative Political Action Conference, and a major GOP fundraiser in Washington whose organizers had plugged her as the headliner.
Organizers at all of those events say they believed they had received assurances from her representatives, only to learn that either the former governor's aides in Alaska or her staff at SarahPAC had been unaware of the commitment. That set of advisors would then announce publicly that Palin had never planned to attend the event.
Palin did end up appearing at the GOP fundraiser but did not speak as originally planned.

Add a comment. Why bother. Sarahs days in the spotlight are numbered. She'll show up every so often, but the people in a position to futher her carreer are among the missing. Bye bye Sarah.
Sarah Palin is so undisciplined and rebellious, I can't believe she WAS in public service since she is so into herself. By the way CNN, can't you find something worthwhile to report???
Apparently she has been too busy writing her book, on the East Coast, to make any scheduled appearances. Like anyone would want to read her book. This woman has a excuse for every incident and nothing is every her fault. The poor angelic picked upon woman.
I don't know how anyone could ever consider her as President of the United States. Our nation would truly be in trouble if our citizens ever did something that stupid.
This woman is not capable of tying her shoes, much less running a country. She can't even keep her own meeting times for her own party straight.
This is poor journalism here. These organizers are trying to use Sarah Palin's name to build up attendance without confirming she'll attend. These people should know better, same with CNN as the fault is not on Sarah Palin.
A donation? How can Palin make a donation when she's asking for donations for her legal fund? Either she has the money, or she doesn't. Which is it? Either way, I don't find this to be a hot news item.
LOL Not surprising at all. You have to have some sort of IQ to schedule your day.
While we are mourning Sen. Kennedy, CNN has the audacity to mention this numbskull on a day like today. With all of her scheduling mishaps, how does she expect to run a country? She's such a loser.
This just in: Palin is stupid.
But...keep the articles coming! Pure entertainment!
And for those that say they are sick of hearing about her, each time you click these stories, you ensuire we will keep getting more!
Who cares – she should just fade away – unless she has some insider news that Obama's health care deal is really just a alien plot to control our brains and be subservents to the leader of the Milky way
Everyone around Palin always seems so confused. I hope it isn't contagious.
In the real America, we like things in writing.
Apparently it's not Palin's fault. Event organizers screw up, too.
Who cares, she's a nobody......don't give this moron the attention she craves
the handwriting is on the wall, don't you see it, this woman isn't up to standard, stop trying to make what she is not capable of being
WHO CARES? I know I don't.
She needs to goo do some research on issues and get different speech writer who write clear and understandable speeches.
Woman can't keep her own ducks in a row. I'm so glad she is not our VP
Tell me again, why is this woman still news?
The reason she backed out is she went to fox news to be with Glen Beck and the rest of the gang there. She is working on this gang to be in her cabinet when alaska sends her to white house.
Go Sarah, continue to blow off your supporters, trust me they will remember in November.
Someone should tell Palin's spokesperson to stop referring to as "the governor". She isn't a governor anymore – she quit, remember? And with 18 months remaining in her original term, nor does she deserve the honorific given to ex-governors and presidents.
SHe can't even control her own life, how can some idiots believe she can run the country.
just when i thought she was gone pop goes the weasel.
Seems to me that the common denominator in those "Scheduling Mishaps" was Palin and her reps. That's one heckuva good group.
Palin and confidence, two words that don't work well together in the same sentence.
