(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appears to be involved in another scheduling mishap, the fourth time in as many months organizers of an event expected an appearance from the GOP star only to discover at the last minute she would not attend.
The latest confusion involves an Alaska Family Council event Thursday night to promote a state ballot issue that would make it illegal for anyone under 18 years old to obtain an abortion without parental consent.
While the organization continues to bill Palin on its Web site as the top speaker at the kickoff for a statewide signature drive, a spokeswoman for the former governor says Palin had never agreed to participate, nor was she even asked.
"To this very moment, she has never been asked to give a speech at a public venue," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.
Instead, Stapleton said, event organizers had invited Palin to attend a private fundraiser for the organization - but she declined the invitation because of prior out-of-state plans.
"The governor notified the group that she is out of town, but would make a donation," Stapleton said. "And she did also mention that since people have already begun signing the petition, she could sign the petition when she returns in the near future."
While a source places blame for the mixup on the group, saying Palin has been "set up a few times before" by Alaska Family Council President Jim Minnery, such scheduling snafus appear to have become a regular occurrence for Palin, one of the Republican Party's most popular figures.
Minnery has not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.
In August, it was announced she would not attend a California Republican women's group event after that organization had promoted her appearance for weeks.
Confusion also surrounded Palin's involvement in events earlier this year including the Conservative Political Action Conference, and a major GOP fundraiser in Washington whose organizers had plugged her as the headliner.
Organizers at all of those events say they believed they had received assurances from her representatives, only to learn that either the former governor's aides in Alaska or her staff at SarahPAC had been unaware of the commitment. That set of advisors would then announce publicly that Palin had never planned to attend the event.
Palin did end up appearing at the GOP fundraiser but did not speak as originally planned.

This is a perfect example of why she didn't finish her Governorship and will Never be President.... She can't handle a schedule now, how could she run a campaign?
So what this article is saying is that Gov Palin did not create a scheduling conflict, the event organizers tried to goat her into attending by making her top billing without her consent. Funny how the byline of the article makes it sound like the conflict was her fault.
And so goes the mainstream media.....
And we are surprised because????? What a ding-bat!!! Please keep this woman as far away from Washington as possible.
This woman! She expects us to believe she can run a country, when she can't even run her event calendar!
And, of course, she once again blames the other involved party, instead of taking responsibility, saying she's been "set up a few times before." Why would an organization aligned with her political beliefs on abortion want to embarrass her?
It doesn't make any sense. But, then again, neither does Sarah Palin nor why anyone would back her political ambitions.
Once a quitter, always a quitter!
please schedule yourself off the books period! anyone who would even give this polarizing ,evil woman the time of day has got to be insane themselves. that is so scary!! she is just such a wack job!!
So what?
If a wing nut spins off a bolt in the middle of a forest and nobody cares ...
Can this bimbo ever get anything right. When will these moronic groups realize what kind of person this woman is.
She is not a "star" by any stretch of the imagination. She is a fascinating train wreck to watch.
Her inability to manage even a simple booking schedule is not news.
Please stop perpetuating her "popularity" with irrelevant stories.
I was supposed to do what? I thought my resignation was to free up more time to do things like this? Please don't tell anyone I can't even tie my own shoes.
Can you say Diva
whats new
This seems to happen alot with this woman!!!! Someone isn't telling the truth, or total lack of communication. CNN why is this even news?? Good thing she was elected as VP of the US...
This woman can't keep her appoinment book straight and/or manage her staff properly, and some of you want her to run the country?
My problem with Palin is the same one I had with Bush, and it has nothing to do with her sex, experience level, or even her ideology.
It's that both of them are demonstrably incompetent and incapable of completing the simplest tasks.
Why are you still reporting about a normal citizen of Alaska?
More hate fodder for the left wing fringe on this site. CNN, where is your story about the democrat activist that sabotaged democrat headquarters in Colorado to make it look like the Republicans were behind it???? When will CNN present truth instead of tabloid journalism?
Palin also apparently forgot to tell her spokeswoman that she's not longer the governor....
She must be tired, thats a good enought excuse for Hillary and obama why is it not for Sarah. At least she didnt say we have 57 states in our country. Id rather our president say he can see Russia from his back yard, than say we have 57 states. What moron could have voted for this guy.
With this kind of organization and follow-through, Palin will never be a viable candidate for anything. This is happening too many times to be a simple mistake. Any of her advisors have a calendar?
Palin burps and CNN reports this vital news story.
Quick, send the I-Team
Yawn,,,,
Gee thanks Alex. A scheduling mix-up. Another busy day in the CNN newsroom eh?
i guess in order to break up some of the mourning over Sen Ted we need to have a story about Sarah Palin who has been sort of quiet lately.
And this concerns us...how?
Of course misuderstandings happen. However, when they happen ovar and over againg and given the diposition of Sarah Palin to blame the media or any other entity she cn conjur up for any circumstance, one has to wonder if she's playing with a full deck.
No surprise...
And people VOTED for this woman to be VP of the country!
