(CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appears to be involved in another scheduling mishap, the fourth time in as many months organizers of an event expected an appearance from the GOP star only to discover at the last minute she would not attend.
The latest confusion involves an Alaska Family Council event Thursday night to promote a state ballot issue that would make it illegal for anyone under 18 years old to obtain an abortion without parental consent.
While the organization continues to bill Palin on its Web site as the top speaker at the kickoff for a statewide signature drive, a spokeswoman for the former governor says Palin had never agreed to participate, nor was she even asked.
"To this very moment, she has never been asked to give a speech at a public venue," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.
Instead, Stapleton said, event organizers had invited Palin to attend a private fundraiser for the organization - but she declined the invitation because of prior out-of-state plans.
"The governor notified the group that she is out of town, but would make a donation," Stapleton said. "And she did also mention that since people have already begun signing the petition, she could sign the petition when she returns in the near future."
While a source places blame for the mixup on the group, saying Palin has been "set up a few times before" by Alaska Family Council President Jim Minnery, such scheduling snafus appear to have become a regular occurrence for Palin, one of the Republican Party's most popular figures.
Minnery has not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.
In August, it was announced she would not attend a California Republican women's group event after that organization had promoted her appearance for weeks.
Confusion also surrounded Palin's involvement in events earlier this year including the Conservative Political Action Conference, and a major GOP fundraiser in Washington whose organizers had plugged her as the headliner.
Organizers at all of those events say they believed they had received assurances from her representatives, only to learn that either the former governor's aides in Alaska or her staff at SarahPAC had been unaware of the commitment. That set of advisors would then announce publicly that Palin had never planned to attend the event.
Palin did end up appearing at the GOP fundraiser but did not speak as originally planned.

There is an obvious pattern here and that is that Palin backs out of events she makes commitments to. She is a quitter at everything she attempts. Stapleton is just as dingy as Palin, the two provide great entertainment.
This kinda of mix-up is becoming a regular for Sarah Palin. First she quits her job for God knows what REAL reason and then she stands up groups like she's the Queen Mother. This woman is proving to be unreliable as well as flat out strange. My instincts served me well in not voting for her and can sure bet I won't vote for her in the future. Our Party has enough problems and flakes to last us a lifetime!
CNN, why do you always try to paint Palin as a moron? It's quite obvious you are biased against her. I feel like I could start a website today claiming she was suppose to speak at my meeting next week, but she backed out, and you would report it as fact. Shame on you. You had about a 10 year head start on Fox News and now you are getting killed in viewers. Gee, I wonder why. Try reporting the news instead of trying to create it. You are just one step above msnbc, which has become tabloid cable. Your obsession with painting Palin as stupid has reached tabloid proportions.

This sort of stuff keeps happening to Palin. Which do you think is most likely:
a) Whatever convoluted excuses her supporters come up with blaming the media, liberals, the Washington establishment, etc. etc. etc.
OR
b) Sarah Palin is a flake.
With this woman, it's about the money folks....4 "mishaps"?....really?
Unless she has a staff that writes every word of every speech given, there is little way she could have much time to herself at all. Even made-to-order speeches need tweaking and personalizing and time to sit.
Do people realize what it takes to enage in public speaking? How much deep preparation, energy, time commitment, and post-speech follow-up is really required?
It is no small matter to prepare for these presentations. Either her skeleton staff (who would even be paying for that now??) tracks and coordinates with every group that wants or expects her, or those groups have to back off. Just because someone supports your cause does not automatically oblige them to clear their schedules magically and make themselves avalilable.
Get over yourselves; lets leave her alone.
