Palin involved in another scheduling mishap

Palin will not attend an event Thursday at which she was billed to be a top speaker.

Palin will not attend an event Thursday at which she was billed to be a top speaker.

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appears to be involved in another scheduling mishap, the fourth time in as many months organizers of an event expected an appearance from the GOP star only to discover at the last minute she would not attend.

The latest confusion involves an Alaska Family Council event Thursday night to promote a state ballot issue that would make it illegal for anyone under 18 years old to obtain an abortion without parental consent.

While the organization continues to bill Palin on its Web site as the top speaker at the kickoff for a statewide signature drive, a spokeswoman for the former governor says Palin had never agreed to participate, nor was she even asked.

"To this very moment, she has never been asked to give a speech at a public venue," Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton told CNN.

Instead, Stapleton said, event organizers had invited Palin to attend a private fundraiser for the organization - but she declined the invitation because of prior out-of-state plans.

"The governor notified the group that she is out of town, but would make a donation," Stapleton said. "And she did also mention that since people have already begun signing the petition, she could sign the petition when she returns in the near future."

While a source places blame for the mixup on the group, saying Palin has been "set up a few times before" by Alaska Family Council President Jim Minnery, such scheduling snafus appear to have become a regular occurrence for Palin, one of the Republican Party's most popular figures.

Minnery has not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.

In August, it was announced she would not attend a California Republican women's group event after that organization had promoted her appearance for weeks.

Confusion also surrounded Palin's involvement in events earlier this year including the Conservative Political Action Conference, and a major GOP fundraiser in Washington whose organizers had plugged her as the headliner.

Organizers at all of those events say they believed they had received assurances from her representatives, only to learn that either the former governor's aides in Alaska or her staff at SarahPAC had been unaware of the commitment. That set of advisors would then announce publicly that Palin had never planned to attend the event.

Palin did end up appearing at the GOP fundraiser but did not speak as originally planned.

CNN, as you can see by the number of posts regarding this article, Ms. Palin has lost her train wreck appeal and those of us who deem her irrelevant have quit responding. Time to quit reporting on her altogether.

Its difficult to manage a calendar when you're reading every magazine published while keeping one eye on the Russian Air Force. Please leave Sarah alone, she cannot possibly be expected to be well-informed, protect America from Putin, and attend every right-wing Bible-thumping event. And liberals are scared of her, too!

She's a ninny. I'm so grateful she's not the second in command of the country. If she had become VP, however, it would have brought millions of people to God because the world over we would have been praying for McCain's Health.

Oh, I get it! A scheduling mishap is what caused her to quit her term early. "Term ends, July/2009" was penciled in on her calendar.

Go figure. The genius of the north couldn't keep her appointments straight?

Glad she and McCain didn't win. I can't begin to imagine the stuff those two could screw up.

    I have two questions:

    1) When will organizations realize that Sarah is a flake, unreliable, and thinking only of herself?

    2) Why does CNN think that ANYTHING that this quitter does is newsworthy?

Stop with the Palin stories, please! Palinites can go to Fox to get the latest stories on the poster child for stupidity.

Palin and Octomom in 2012. Sad, but I'll bet there are people out there who think that would be a great running ticket idea.

If she is no longer important, how come 100+ posted something here. Smells like fear to me.

The conservatives and those of the religous right who embrace fascist ideals have a extremely narrow view of things and they refuse to see the big picture, only what they want to see. Why would these people want to abuse these girls, haven't they been abused enough. What a bunch of maroons.
I believe the word is moron you maroon

Honestly, it sounds like either someone is trying to sabotage her or her staff is completely incompetent.

    Either way, she's a mess.

This is no flap on her part; of course your headline said she was "involved" in a flap, so you were just baiting, not accusing. CNN has propagated the liberal hatred for this lady, and yet cannot resist the temptation to use anything about her in the news because they know "it sells." She's genuine and common and sharp, but she's hated by many simply because she believes all the "wrong" things.

Keep up the humor CNN. I'm not a Palin fan but thought she could help her party by being a fundraiser, etc. Guess not if she can't ever show up for anything. Maybe in this case the group said she was a speaker and she had not actually been invited, however, this is happening too often for each situation to be someone else's fault.

This is the same type of organization that we had for the last 8 years. Can we really afford to have any more of this?

She needs to be like the hero's in old westerns....quietly ride into the sunset. And never be heard from again.
