Rubio calls Crist's Senate pick 'disappointing'

(CNN) – Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, who is running as a more conservative alternative to Charlie Crist in the state's Republican Senate primary race, called the governor's appointment of George LeMieux to the U.S. Senate "disappointing."

"This is a disappointing pick for Florida," Rubio said in a statement e-mailed to CNN Friday. "George LeMieux is a talented political operative and the governor's best friend, but that doesn't make him the right choice to represent Florida in the Senate."

"Governor Crist had a wealth of consistent and principled conservative candidates to choose from, all of whom would have been a reliable check and balance on the excesses of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda," he said.

This guy's an opportunist and a sham, donning wolf's clothing in hopes of someday running with the wolf pack. Best if ignored.

    I agree with Mark Rubio,
we do not need anymore limp republicans.
We need conservatism and tight fiscal responsiblity.
That was a weak choice by Crist.

"wealth of consistent and principled conservative candidates to choose from, all of whom would have been a reliable"

Anybody with a description that included "conservative' in and of itself makes them a HORRIBLE pick for any position in the US. They have proven to consistantly WRECK the nation along with all other things they touch.

George LeSeatwarmer should be given a chance. Although a political hack, George is familiar with the issues and might do a better job than Crist himself. Florida will be represented by an appointed senator for 2 1/2 years. Too bad Florida doesn't have special elections (just can't trust the people). Rubio is a gasbag who panders to the far right fringe.

These days it seems that the only principles politicians have are (1) look out for themselves; (2) look out for their big contributors; (3) to h*ll with everybody else until election time.

Speaker Rubio, you have been just excellent in the Florida government. Please hang on and you can get Sen Nelson's seat soon. We will then have two brilliant republican senators again in Florida.

all of whom would have been a reliable check and balance on the excesses of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda," he said

I could understand if the "excesses" of the "Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda" were going towards... an unnecessary war, for example, or into their or their friends own pockets, or to the corporations of large political contributors, or to suborn perjury. I would be VERY angry and vocal about that. But the truth is, for the umpteenth time, that the excesses are being invested right here in America. On my roads, my schools, my health, my economy. They are being invested to resucitate MY COUNTRY, which was left ravaged and moribund by you-know-who. So please...enough already.

"excesses"....Considering South Florida is the health care fraud capital of the world, amounting to several billion dollars a year...Rubio's use of the word "excesses" is quite ironic.

The words principled and conservative should never appear in the same sentence.
