First on the CNN Ticker: DNC takes aim at Cheney

The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.
The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.

(CNN) - The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at Dick Cheney over his string of high-profile media appearances during which the former vice president has been highly critical of President Obama's national security policies.

In a new 30-second television ad set for national cable and local cable in Washington, the DNC asserts many of Cheney's statements have been incorrect - particularly those in which he has argued enhance interrogation techniques conclusively yielded intelligence.

That ad compares those recent statements to ones he made in the leadup to the Iraq war, when he declared Americans would be "greeted as liberators" and that he was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Dick Cheney, wrong then, wrong now," the ad states.

The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP.

Cheney most recently appeared on Fox News, declaring in an interview Sunday that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, considered by many to be torture, were "absolutely essential in saving thousands of American lives."

Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information.

Once again, one political party is wasting our time and money by pointing fingers at another political party. I really wish they would all quit acting like a bunch of kids and get on with fixing the problems instead of the blame.

Don't blame Cheney. He knows very well that the investigation will go right up to his office.

  7. So Tired of This

We have an attention span of about a week and a half and no moral compass. We are apparently not all that bright either.

Why else would we be listening to Dick Cheney and not whole heartedly supporting Barack Obama?

Oh CNN...why is it the DNC using Dick Cheney as a "punching bag" but when the Dick says something about the Prez he's just making a comment. Should you be changing your name to Cable Noise Network if you're going to always be in bed with Fox Noise.

  12. panem et circenses, but CNN won't post

Geez, CNN, do your job as a "news" outlet and provide some context and details.

    A) we WERE greated as liberators when we rolled through Bagdad after the invasion.
    B) "Critics contend" is the same things as he-said-she-said, give some unbiased references if you want to be taken seriously over this
    C) "The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP." Note – when the Dems attacked Cheney earlier this year that polls showed the American people believed Cheney ... so only saying they attacked without telling how effective it was is shoddy at best and downright partisan at worst.

    Journalism is dead at CNN...

Interesting strategy. The DNC may fire up the base on the left with this, but I don't think this will capture the center. Investigating the CIA (which may also play well with the lefties) is going to lose more of the center than will be gained by going after Cheney...

  15. DNC takes heat! and CNN sucks!

DNC is the group taking heat, as is obama's waffling over this question.

Cheney is 1000% correct, the DNC are a bunch of idiots. Don't they have an economy to worry about.

Let me guess, obama's dropping in the polls again and here's a hopefull distration.

The good news for the DNC is they have CNN to support their causes, no matter how unpopular they are...

Is Cheney paying the Democrats to amplify his message? They do a better job of getting out what he's saying than anyone else! And the funny part is most people agree with him.

ENOUGH of Chaney and Palin...we voted for change and let's give Obama a chance.
We have had 8 years of war and wasting of money by the Republicans. We should give the new administration at least a couple of years before critizing.
AND....other than stating how bad everything is...I do not believe I have heard any proposals from the republicans.
FYI..I am a former republican and glad I left the party.

Dick Cheney is probably going to prison for his role in torturing prisoners, and he knows it. Watch him become more erratic as we get closer to the charges against him being filed.

Good for the DNC!! Enough is enough already of this doofus bag telling lie after insipid lie, and demoralizing Americans in regards to the great job our President is doing. This show of solidarity from the DNC is long overdue. Cheney needs to be called on the game that he's been running on simple-minded Americans who actually give any credence to what this draft-dodger, war-mongerer has to say. I certainly hope they lay into him with both barrels.

What I find sad is that after being wrong on 9/11 – lets face it. Bush was President for over a year and he was suppose to keep us safe. HE DIDN'T. After being wrong on WMD's, Nukes and Al Queda links to Iraq – all of which were found to be wrong and furthest from the truth. After being wrong on just about every single policy issue, improving on a budget surplus, torture, federal attorney general appointments and God the list goes on my head is spinning.

The point is after being wrong on some many things, issues and policies clearly the Bush administration was one of the worst in our history as a nation. Bush and none of his administration has any creditability. NONE AT ALL.

  25. DNC - Focus on the economy, stupid!

You can ALWAYS TELL when their messiah's polls are dropping.

The democrats, along with all the support CNN can muster throw out every distraction available.

FOCUS ON THE ECONOMY – NOT THE PAST!

LET IT GO! AS WAYNE WOULD SAY... "LIVE IN THE NOW!"
