First on the CNN Ticker: DNC takes aim at Cheney

The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.
The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.

(CNN) - The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at Dick Cheney over his string of high-profile media appearances during which the former vice president has been highly critical of President Obama's national security policies.

In a new 30-second television ad set for national cable and local cable in Washington, the DNC asserts many of Cheney's statements have been incorrect - particularly those in which he has argued enhance interrogation techniques conclusively yielded intelligence.

That ad compares those recent statements to ones he made in the leadup to the Iraq war, when he declared Americans would be "greeted as liberators" and that he was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Dick Cheney, wrong then, wrong now," the ad states.

The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP.

Cheney most recently appeared on Fox News, declaring in an interview Sunday that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, considered by many to be torture, were "absolutely essential in saving thousands of American lives."

Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information.

Spin it however you want, idiots Dems, but the fact remains that Obama has, and is still in the process of, making this country much less safe. Cheney isn't the only one that believes/knows this!

  2. DNC, e-mail me!

I wish the DNC had let me know they were buying these ads - I would have gladly chipped in! As we Dems have learned yet again, if your opponent lies once you have to counter with the truth 10 times before it sinks in. Cheney and these other lying liars have zero concern with truth and the safety and well-being of Americans - all they want is money and power.

Thanks DNC and keep up the good work!

The only reason you see Cheney now, is so he can sell his book. I have said all along, that the only time people should listen to Cheney is, if and when he is under oath.

Cheney is a distraction. He's also completely focused on his own vindication, even if he has to lie, distort, belittle and bully to do it.

Cheney is such a gift that keeps on giving.

For the 2008 campaign, we had Bush to run against.

Now we have Cheney! SO WRONG! SO UNPOPULAR! SO CRIMINAL!

We need more real faces of the Republican Party to run against, and fortunately, they're all out in all their infinite lunacy!

Halliburton must be sued for all damages in the Iraq war and its cost -$3 Trillion. Welcome to Cheney's USA – where we spend money we don't have to bomb out imaginary enemies to protect citizens and then let them go bankrupt and die from lack of health care. Jesus would be so proud.

WHY does CNN keep giving Cheney and Palin so much "ink"? Both are as irrelevant as ever.

Why is the DNC going after Cheney? He's no longer in power? This is why: what he says is true and the DNC knows it. Why else would you try and discredit someone who no longer has any power? To me, they're afraid of what he has to say because there may be some validity to it.

I really hope people of America wake up to the current democratic leadership and their complete inadequacies.

If everyone would just STOP paying attention to Dick Cheney, stop interviewing him, stop asking him to speak, he would just go away.

Why is this guy still talking? It was President Obama who signed his six month extension for Secret Service protection... He should be humble & supportive of Pres. Obama.. Before it's said & done.. I think Cheney and the Bush Cronies will end up in jail.. He's sounding more scared everyday...

Even as a liberal I disagree when parties rely on using attack ads, but unfortunately each party will continue to bicker in trivial ways such as through television or radio broadcasts. I'd much rather see both parties put attack ad budgets towards something more productive for our country.

Dick did not and is not keeping us safe. He has created a lot of world wide hate for us.

I wish he would acknowledge that we are a nation of laws. Even Alberto Gonzales disagees with Dick on EIT.

Good for the DNC. Somebody ought to call out Cheney for his major miscalculations that misled the American public to support an immoral war. Funny how the Republicans kept him hidden during the last presidential campaign.

Cheney is not just wrong, he is malignant and wrong.

I'll bet his intentions are good, but he does great harm to America with his good intentions.

No kidding!! Me thinks me smells a rat! He who doth protest too much. . .
Cheney is striking first and often, hoping that he can sidetrack any investigation. I hope this plays out quicker, as the 2010 and 2012 elections loom. A negative result for Cheney could prove disastrous to an already decimated Party of NO!

I have seen video clips of many Democrats that agreed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction including Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. Remember, Bush could not go into Iraq without approval from the Senate and he got it.
