First on the CNN Ticker: DNC takes aim at Cheney

The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.
The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad.

(CNN) - The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at Dick Cheney over his string of high-profile media appearances during which the former vice president has been highly critical of President Obama's national security policies.

In a new 30-second television ad set for national cable and local cable in Washington, the DNC asserts many of Cheney's statements have been incorrect - particularly those in which he has argued enhance interrogation techniques conclusively yielded intelligence.

That ad compares those recent statements to ones he made in the leadup to the Iraq war, when he declared Americans would be "greeted as liberators" and that he was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Dick Cheney, wrong then, wrong now," the ad states.

The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP.

Cheney most recently appeared on Fox News, declaring in an interview Sunday that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, considered by many to be torture, were "absolutely essential in saving thousands of American lives."

Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information.

"Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information."....Critics contend? You forgot to mention facts and actuality. They contend as well. Do your job CNN. Stop proving to everyone what a joke you are. And fire Larry King...what a waste of a perfectly good news slot.

Cheney is an idiot. This shouldn't be too hard. After all, he's the one that allowed the torture.

Good! The DNC and President Obama need to take off the gloves regarding the 8 years of lies that were fed to this country.

Is the DNC going to run an ad mentioning how former President Clinton believed the intelligence reports? Or how they were supported by every other major intelligence agency in the world?
Okay, I will agree that Cheney was a bit delusional to think we'd be greeted with open arms after we left the Kurds and Shiites high and dry ten years earlier. (Gee, anyone remember how Saddam slaughtered whole villages in a GENOCIDE?)

How about we remember that these people want Americans and our allies dead? That they are willing to die to kill as many of us as they can? Or has everyone already forgotten what happened nearly 8 years ago? Or in London on 7/7? Or Bali? Or the USS Cole? Or our African embassies?

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

So why hasn't Holder prosecuted these war criminals? The thought of this sordid bunch of Nazis running around free in America and commanding the stage on countless media outlets is sickening. I'm calling for immediate prosecution. Let him defend his actions in the courts and broadcast the proceedings as were the Watergate hearings. Enought of this banter. Let's get to the facts: torture is illegal and a crime against humanity.

Mr. Cheney should be less talkative and definitely less critical of the Obama administration. He appears to be inviting terrorist activity against the USA. According to the former VP's logic it follows that a terrorist attack would be vindication.

what the DNC fails to mention is that along with Cheny being wrong – so was the UN, Powell, Clinton, France, Germany, UK, and teh majority of democrats in congress. What did Obama think? Oh, we're not sure – he only voted 'present'

About time! I cannot believe that Cheney's argument that if torture worked (which it did not, but let's pretend it did) it would somehow be justified is not being dismissed out of hand. If we want to live in a country like Iran where the government has the discretion of deciding whether to follow the law or not, and where the government is allowed to use torture based on the hunches they may have about somebody, we should listen to Dick. If we value freedom and the rule of law we need to make an example of war criminals like Cheney.

Remember, those who would sacrifice freedom for temporary security deserve, and will have, neither.

Heard it said that Cheney could be planning a run for the White House in 2012.

His election would be a sign that the end is very near, the evil prick.

WMD lies, legalized torture, secret prisons, warrantless wiretaps, more White House corruption then at any time in U.S. history, record gas prices, record oil profits, no-bid contracts to Halliburton, tens of thousands of dead and maimed Americans and Iraqis, the outting of a covert CIA agent for political revenge (and lobbies for a Scooter Libby pardon), substandard treatment at Walter Reed, the Katrina debacle, three trillion dollars added to the national debt, competent attorneys being replaced by Bush cronies in our justice system, deregulaiton of our financial system leading to the banking meltdown....and he now has the nerve to run the Sunday news show circuit and wag his finger at our current president.

Go somewhere and sit down Cheney. You had your run. You were wrong then. You're wrong now.
