(CNN) – Sarah Palin is calling the AP's decision to release a battlefield photo of a dying Marine over the family's objection "an evil thing to do."
In a Sunday night post on her Facebook page, the former Alaska governor called the photo released this week of Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard's dying moments on the battlefield in Afghanistan a "sacred image."
"Many of us join Secretary Gates in condemning the Associated Press for its heartless and selfish decision to turn its back on the wishes of a grieving family in order to exploit the tragic death of a true American hero," she wrote.
The release of the photo was "a despicable and heartless act by the AP," said Palin. "The family said they didn't want the photo published. AP, you did it anyway, and you know it was an evil thing to do.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bernard family. …"
Palin has had limited public appearances since resigning the governor's office in July. Most of her comments have come via posts on her Facebook page.

For the first time, I agree with Sarah Palin. Now if we could just lose the reality show perspectives, I would probably hear more of what she is trying to say
these stories always remind me of the famous quotation: "Dead men have indeed died in vain if live men refuse to look at them."
To think people who just despise Palin will think these photos are righteous tokens. Some people cant see the forest for the trees. This is some thing you would expect the enemy to post for gutteral consumption. Guess there could be propaganda terrorists on both sides. Then again when you have kissed the golden childs ring you can get a pass on desecrating the sanctity of ones dying moments. Its the Chicago way!!! Like in the ol song smugglers blues "the lure of easy money has a very strong appeal". 20 to 1 odds this dingleberry reporter gets a Peabody for it. Perfect match for the brain!
Ok, Palin, you got your 15 secs of fame for today... now go back to your cave until tomorrow....
I used to actually care what private citizen Palin thought....before she abandoned her post and deserted the Alaskan people. Sorry Sarah, you can't have your cake and eat it to. You can't be a quitter and expect people to still take you seriously. Go fish.
But I'm sure Palin has no problem whatsoever with pictures of dead soldiers in history books, etc. showing the bloodshed of the Civil War, WWII, Vietnam, etc.! Maybe as Americans we need to see our soldiers wounded to realize the cost of war. That soldier in Afghanistan gave his life and he is being honored.
Palin makes me sick.
Can't believe I am saying this, but...
I agree with Sarah Palin..
ouch, that hurt.
If it is against the families will then it is evil. Dirty nasty liberals will do anything for their worthless cause.
The media lost good journalism standards since the Clinton era
Thank you Sarah for speaking for real Americans.
why is Palin always talking about evil?
Sarah Palin must really get under the skin of the folks at CNN. Hardly a day goes by without CNN writing a negative article about her. Get a life CNN, she is not even in office right now.
Did anyone tell her foxnews posted a link to the picture on their website?
Sarah, the more you talk, the better the chances of reelecting Obama. Feel free to keep on going...
can we stop covering Palin for three months? We all need a break.
Thanks,
Someone please tell Palin-No-Brains no one really cares what she considers evil or not evil, in fact less than 25% of Americans could care less if she could never talk again and could never call 'Anything' evil again, in my opinion the only thing evil is the 'anti-christ' Palin, after all Christ was a man, would it n ot m ake sense the anti-christ were a woman?
Once Again It's CNN Giving Volume To The Nonsence & Noise That Is Sarah Palin. Her Premise Is Somewhat Correct Though, But I'm Certain It Wont Endear Her To The Associated Press.
My heart does break for this family ... however, their son volunteered & gave his life – all of it as it turned out – to the US gov't. Don't Americans have a right/responsibility to see the result? All except those tragically impacted become very detached from the wars, and maybe a dose of reality will wake up public opinion. It's not just an abstract question, how long our soldiers fight, how many more. Does anyone know how the soldier himself would have felt about his sacrifice being seen?
What! You didn't have any problem showing your "Shock and Awe" which killed thousands upon thousands of people. Keep sticking your head in the sand – it doesn't change the fact that War Kills people.
god Palin is a nit wit.
CNN should follow the news instead of Palin's facebook page.
Who is Sarah Palin?
Who cares?
Something somehow sensible from Sarah Paulin. I hope she will take this time and educate herself on some very basic issue and get away from rhetorics.
So it's o.k to support the war but then you object to the loss of innocent lives (American only) when it is shown in the media. Palin is a joke. This is a casualty of Bush and the Republicans policies that got us into this unjust war in the first place. Another mess President Obama has to fix... God bless this soldier but Americans that support this war (Palin and the Republicans) need to see what they fought so hard to defend. And instead of protesting at Tea Parties against taxes that haven't even gone up or against our BLACK President speaking to our children, they should have joined the Democrats over the last few years, protesting the loss of innocent lives (both American and Iraqis)! Shame on Palin for her faux outrage!
Well, Palin certainly should recognize exploitation of our troops since she seems to do it on a regular basis. When she asked the media to honor our troops by "quit makin' things up" she should have been talking to herself. What a hypocrite.
It might be a stretch to call it evil, but it was the wrong thing to do.
I don't care if the AP thinks the world needs to see the photo. If the family says no, you can't use the picture of our loved one dying, then anyone with a moral compass would yield to the wishes of the family.
