(CNN) – Sarah Palin is calling the AP's decision to release a battlefield photo of a dying Marine over the family's objection "an evil thing to do."
In a Sunday night post on her Facebook page, the former Alaska governor called the photo released this week of Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard's dying moments on the battlefield in Afghanistan a "sacred image."
"Many of us join Secretary Gates in condemning the Associated Press for its heartless and selfish decision to turn its back on the wishes of a grieving family in order to exploit the tragic death of a true American hero," she wrote.
The release of the photo was "a despicable and heartless act by the AP," said Palin. "The family said they didn't want the photo published. AP, you did it anyway, and you know it was an evil thing to do.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bernard family. …"
Palin has had limited public appearances since resigning the governor's office in July. Most of her comments have come via posts on her Facebook page.

Sarah, you quit. You gave up on the people who elected you. CNN, stop printing Sarah's facebook comments. The American people hate quitters and you my dear are one of the biggest. You don't have the guts, smarts or morals to be a public figure. Go away now before you're as much of a joke as Tanya Harding.
How come we did'nt show the people jumping off the Twin Towers after it got hit, oh thats not acceptable, it's to graphic for Americans to Handle i forgot. But the libs want to showe a dying solider. We already know war is ugly and brutal.
Dying soldiers have been photographed since we have had photography.
Check out Civil War photos of battlefields.
Grow up, folks! AND GET TO WORK! What are you doing not working on Labor Day?
Is "evil" the only adjective Sarah Palin knows?
She needs to stop speaking in Right Wing Fundamentalist Terms, like Bush did with "Axis of Evil". Get a life and get out of ours Palin!
If a soldier dying is so "sacred", why do neo-cons want so many to die?
This from a ignorant quitter that used and selfishly put her children in danger for her Right Wing-nut photo opts every chance she got.
As incredible as it seems, she's right on this one.
Wow newver thought I'd agree with anything Caribou Barbie said....but in this case she's right. If the family said No then AP should have respected that! I'll go eat crow now.
War is ugly sarah! It's filled with hate; propaganda and lies that are meant to mislead; doing everything within your power to discredit the other; the willingness and utter immorality to do anything to win; it’s typically done in the name of God, but really meant for control, power, and money. Kind of like you and the lackeys that follow you.
I can't stand Palin, but when she's right, she's right. The AP should have had some respect for the wishes of the family. I wouldn't go so far to call them "evil", but it was not the right thing to do.
While I might agree with Sarah on this one, she's still a dingbat.
Nothing she hates more than a free press.
The reality is war is evil. I honestly believe that if I were the mother of this marine I would want the world to see this photo. War brings nothing but death and destruction. Stay the course? I don't think so. I think we are fighting a losing battle. Bring our young men and women home!
None of your business Palin.
Wow. I never thought I'd agree with Sarah Palin on anything.
Yes Palin is right. Amazing that some don't get it and even some who do get it still try make this story about Palin because they are so small-minded.
LOL, Sarah Palin is to a liberal what holy water is to Dracula. It's hilarious.
Sarah Palin's anger stems from her misguided and sheltered view of the world. The grisly image shown evokes a sense of anger and sadness and reminds clueless American's that young men and women are dying in a country they couldn't even find on a map.
As a military mom I deplore sensationalizing the anguish of war for whatever reasons. My heart bleeds for the families of our fallen heroes. The AP has no right to deepen the anguish of military families, and should be held accountable for poor journalistic judgment. That said, Palin has used the media to her advantage all to often, and cries unfair when it also serves her purpose. She lives a double standard. She remains an opportunist in every way.
Even on a subject that most Americans should/would agree on, the AP releasing a photo without family permission – the far left on this site employ it as an opportunity for offensive comments directed at Sarah Palin.
Probably the same folks who place ideology above human character, values.
Of course, people on the far right act in the same boorish manner when it comes to liberals. I think they deserve each other!
I don't always agree with her, but I do this time. Standing up for this dead soldier's family is simple human decency. The left loves using Palin to paint the entire Republican party. What I see is an awful lot of hatred directed towards this woman (not just her views) by people who only preach about tolerance when it comes to their own beliefs.
why does CNN continue to give this has been
quitter loon national coverage. leave her as the
footnote to failed politics that she is...
This woman is so very dangerous to our way of life. She grabs every opportunity to rip the media apart - better wake up readers and viewers....this woman and others like her are eroding the foundation of our free speech bit by bit. If you are even the slightest bit worried about Obama's administration and congress 'taking over' corporate America, you should be 10x more worried about Sarah and her crusade to eradicate the fair dispersal of what is going on in the world...the real world.
Sarah, why do you hate the media so? Maybe you should be back into reporting again and do it right? Set an example? Oh wait....thats another job you left................
If the war never started these deaths would have been averted. Wasn't it Palin's party that started the war? Go figure!!!!
