Obama warns anyone who would 'misrepresent' plan

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Wednesday he would call out anyone who misrepresents what's in his health care plan.

The president told a joint session of Congress that he would listen to a "serious set of proposals" from Democrats or Republicans, but would not "waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it."

"I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are," he said. "If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now."

Obama said his proposal contained elements from both sides of the aisle and that he would "continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead."

"If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen," he said. "My door is always open."

In the one breath Obama says he wont give in to special interests in the next breath he proposes a mandate that will benefit the insurance industry to the detriment of the middle class. What a disaster!!

Is anyone surprised that a middle aged white guy from the south thinks its okay to yell and call the first AA POTUS a liar during a world wide televised address to Congress? Why do people continue to suggest that there is no element of racism at the base of the criticisms and opposition of Pres. Obama? Wilson's hate so overwhelmed him that he could not contain himself. So sad.

More threats! We will lie about what the intent of this bill is, but do not lie about what is in it. Same old political crap and strong arm politics. Scrap it and start over now that you have all heard what Americans really want, not what your PAC contributors and lobbyists will accept.

Thios time Americans are not like ly to forget in 2010. Send all the junk mail, phone recordings, TV ads, etc... we will remember how you listened to your constituents in 2010!

1930s - Republicans oppose Social Security... "will lead this country into communism". Not a single yes vote. 1960s - Republicans oppose Medicare ... "will kill private insurance" ... "government takeover". Not a single yes vote. Neither allegations were true or became true. Which program does your grandparents want to get rid of? How about the Socialist/Marxist PUBLIC school you went to? or the Socialist/Marxist Public Fire Dept? Socialist/Marxist Public Library? Police Dept? Armed Services? All Government run. None of them have run any private enterprise "out of business".

The Public Option is just that, AN OPTION.

Do we want to fall for the same scare tactics and bogus claims from the people who wanted to kill and still want to kill Social Security or Medicare?

There's a long line of those who misrepresent the healthcare proposal with lies, that's right, out and out lies. People who listen to their lies need to hold them accountable by asking them where they found their lies. Once a liar, always a liar.

Will he also call out the folks who misrepresent the plan by not being truthful about what's in it? Meaning those that try to hide what the bill will actually do?

No, Obama and the far left want to have a monopoly on their misrepresentations–aka, "lies"–lies like

"We can make health care free for everyone without raising taxes."

Oh, really? Where's that trillion bucks going to come from?

"People who like their current health care arrangements can keep them."

Yeah, until your employer insurance providers.

"The public option won't kill off private insurance."

Oh, yeah... An organisation with no need to make a profit and the endlessly deep pockets of the Federal government to cover losses makes a fair competitor for real companies.

And on and on, one lie after another.

All this man and his socialist party know how to do is threaten those who disagree with him. Never have we had such a bully in office in this country.

In each piece of language drafted by this Socialist Congress, there are constant threats of penalties or imprisonment.

Democrats, you are DONE threatening the American people.

"Misrepresent"? Obama still misrepresents what the public option will do when he continues to state that our insurance won't change. Guess what? Obama CANNOT PROMISE that. Obama cannot promise that so much competition will not drive private insurance out of business and turn our country into a SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM . That is why the liberals are pushing hard the public option. Barney Frank is recorded on YouTube as saying that will happen. We cannot have a health care system like Canada. Obama CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

If only CNN and other news organizations would stop the incessant lies during their broadcasts instead of allowing the liars to continue to perpetuate the nonsense, this country might progress - rather than regress as it has been doing for the past 9 months.

Thank God our President is above all the fray.

I am so pleased that President Obama addressed all this republican nonsense and lie mongering head on, but in a civilized and respectful manner. If they continue to repeat their lies and mistruths, we all must continue to call them out... Thank you President Obama for reminding us that we are all in this together and together, we can work towards a better America for all its citizens!

The first person the President should "call out" for misrepresenting his health care plan is Barack Obama. One of the most glaring misrepresentations is the claim to be able to add 30 – 40 million currently uninsured Americans, improve coverage for those who currently have health care, and not add to the cost by one additional dime. If it was so easy to save the wasted funds in health care, it would already have been done.
