Obama warns anyone who would 'misrepresent' plan

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Wednesday he would call out anyone who misrepresents what's in his health care plan.

The president told a joint session of Congress that he would listen to a "serious set of proposals" from Democrats or Republicans, but would not "waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it."

"I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are," he said. "If you misrepresent what's in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now."

Obama said his proposal contained elements from both sides of the aisle and that he would "continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead."

"If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen," he said. "My door is always open."

The Republicans lack of interest in health care reform was glaringly evident during this speech. Rep. Cantor was texting for crying out loud! As their employer I would like to discontinue health care benefits to members of Congress–NOW!

It is about time to call a lie a lie. Not falsehood, not mis-statement, not misrepresentation. A lie is a lie, and liars should be called out.

Good. I'm tired of the GOP's flat out lies and fear-mongering. They need to be called out for it. If you have tomake stuff up, you don't have much of an argument.

Please President Obama do go after the ones who lie and misrepresent your plan. Make them be accountable for what they say and do. Do not let the negative loud people win. The American people love your honesty and coming out clearly on how you will handle our problems. Stay tough and hold your ground, we believe in you. If they don't want your plan...ask them to give up their insurance. They are just mad because they didn't come up with the ideas first.

"misrepresent what's in the plan?" You mean if someone calls it what it is? A government takeover? A violation of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution? Call me out? and what, throw me in jail because I have a constitutional right to freedom of speech and will encourage others to stand against this socialist plan?

And there are still die hard liberals who will defend this nonsense.

Thank God he stands by a public option! We need health care reform and a public option needs to be part of that.

When George W invaded Iraq, more than 80% support the motion that drag our country down. The current president will improve our own health care but much fewer people support. What's wrong with American people?

Does he even know what is in the plan? Why would he and the members of congress not want to participate in the same plan they expect the common man to accept?

Yes. It is indeed time that those liars out there (eg Congressman Wilson) are taken to task for spreading their filthy falsehoods. The American people deserve the truth. The truth is that corporate interests have already spent $260 million in lobbying costs to defeat ANY bill reforming our health care system. They are putting your life at risk, for their profit. Go check the facts. Then decide.
