Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.
Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.

According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller raised $100,000 overnight from 3,000 individual donors after Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress on Wednesday night.

Miller released a statement last night accusing Wilson of "engaging in childish name-calling and disrespecting out Commander-in-Chief." Wilson's shout prompted Democrats on the Web to direct donors to Miller's Web site and to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue.

Miller gave Wilson the toughest re-election challenge of his career last year in one of the country's most conservative congressional districts. Miller lost by eight points, and decided to challenge Wilson again next year.

Wilson apologized to the president after the speech, calling his comments "inappropriate and regrettable."

UPDATE: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported Thursday morning that Miller's post-speech total had risen to $200,000.

UPDATE 2:45 pm: The DCCC reported Thursday afternoon that Miller's new post-speech total had risen to $400,000, via 11,000 individual contributions.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.: The DCCC reported Thursday evening that Miller post-speech total had risen to more than $500,000, via 14,000 individual contributions.

No one disrespects the office of the President of the United States, the duely elected leader of the free world. I don't care if you are left or right. We need to teach the world every day that we are the leaders – we individuals must represent the ideals and values of this great country every day and be the "beacon of hope" for millions of people around the globe. Trash-talking dolts such as Joe Wilson represent the lowest form of politician. Enough already, let's express our differences with civility and with educated arguements based on facts.
    This guy should resign today

Joe Wilson committed political suicide last night. Apologies just don't have as much meaning to them when everyone clearly knows that you meant what you said.

South Carolinians should be ashamed for electing Wilson in the first place! Its one thing to RESPECTIVELY disagree, but our President deserves better than Wilson and so many "conservatives" are dishing out these days. I'm personally embarrassed by their behavior and trust that thoughtful voters will react accordingly come election time.

Even if President started his speech by saying: "I am with the Republican ideology every stelp of the way" he would be hissed and booed by them.

Mr. Wilson came to the place full of animosity knowing full well that nothing that Pres. Obama said would soothe his ruffled feathers. Alas his sentimets got the best of him. Will somebody kindly explain to me this fact: If somebody lays out a plan, how can he be called a liar if it is not yet put in motion? You call him a liar if he fails to deliver. Right, kindergarteners?

At least he did not throw shoes.

Okay, so the guy should not have blurted out that statement. But the bigger question is, was he right?

I for one think he was. There will be no way to manage illegal immigrants and they will continue to get free health care.

Obama also said that taxes would not be raised. How? How are we going to pay for this? Obama did not explain that.

Joe Wilson is apparently the ONLY honest man in Congress today. Obama IS LYING and his own Congressional Budget Office ADMITS THAT ILLEGALS WILL BE SERVED WITH FREE CARE AND SUBSIDIZED INSURANCE. This is no longer a debate. It's a full frontal assault by our "organizer in chief." A complete IDIOT with no real experience. http://WWW.IRRITATING.ME

Rep. Wilson should apologize to President Obama all of America
face to face with the President on National television. A phone call was not enough. Shame on Rep. Wilson. That is exactly what we do NOT need to solve the health care reform issue.

Wilson has embarrassed South Carolina and the Congress.
He should learn to control himself, especially his mouth.
Wilson is the poster boy for how to become a low class politician.
    Disgraceful behavior in congress.

Thank you, Mr. Wilson, for giving such a boost to your opponent. You can just about kiss your cushy place in Congress goodbye. Once you get out here on the outside, maybe you will see the truth behind what President Obama was saying, even though that ability doesn't seem to come through on many of your GOP buddies.

"Inappropriate and regrettable" is just the beginning, sir. It is the sign of the now typical disrespect shown daily by the GOP, not only to the President, but to the people who elected you.

As for President Obama's point - that the new healthcare plan does not include making a public option available to illegal immigrants - we, the American people are already paying for them to have health care. And it shouldn't matter anyway, since humane health care, as well as smart business practices, mean that controlling disease prevents its spread to others.

  20. Help me

And why is that you don't recall ever hearing a democrat doing this to a Republican President? Because they have respect for the POTUS. No matter who holds the position. Say whatever you want about Democrats at the very least, they don't act like 3 year old's who aren't getting their way when they... don't get their way... To disagree is acceptable... to be a 60 year old child calling names in a national address is completely different and unacceptable. I am appalled as an SC citizen at this guy. I hope you lose your seat sir, for you don't have the dignity required to hold it.

I'll be sending my donation soon. These brainless, spineless creeps need to be weeded out of their political strongholds. SC citizens have been embarassed enough. Look at their education system. Now look at the repubs that refuse to improve it. The citizens need to quit fearing the normal retoric and vote these parasites out!

The Republicans will have to learn that their hatred of America will cost them dearly.

Some of them will stop at nothing to see that this President fails.. It borders on treason. They should be thrown in jail.
