Resolution criticizing Wilson passes, on mostly partisan vote

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The House of Representatives on Tuesday formally admonished Republican Rep. Joe Wilson for shouting "you lie" during President Barack Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress last week.

The House passed a resolution of disapproval on a 240-179 vote that was mostly along party lines, reflecting the Democratic majority in the chamber.

Five representatives voted "present."

According to the Office of the House Historian, it was the first time in its 220-year history that the House has disciplined a member for speaking out during a presidential speech in the chamber to a joint session of Congress.

During debate on the resolution, Wilson called the measure a waste of time and failed to offer an apology to the chamber as demanded by House Democrats.

Great Job, Democrats. I also heard you created a "Speech List" of words that are OK to use on the floor of the house... and words that are FORBIDDEN.

Today – the democratic party fully embraced fascism!!

Personally, I would have like to seen Congress bring back the pillory and give us a public option on rotten tomatoes... and make Wilson the first occupant of the stocks.

I'm wondering why he isn't being brought up on charges of behavior unbecoming to an officer (or worse) since he's in the Guard and President Obama IS the Commander-in-Chief...? Where's Wilson's C.O. on this? Oh, wait... is that the Confederate military he's in?

Pass the health care bill. That will be punishment enough to idiot blob Joe Wilson and the phony "Country First" party. I'm still trying to figure out how people can't see the blatant lies they're spewing. Beyond amazing to me. But then again, they know their older constituents and what makes them tick. It serves them right, though. They should have been kinder to people in their day.

Good......if the republican don't want to hold him accountable the Dems have to resort to playing mommy and daddy until the repugs stop acting like children.

So Rep. Joe Wilson tells the truth.....thank goodness there are still some up there in Washington that do!

When will these people in Washington learn to stop wasting the taxpayers money.

Hey Cnn, why don't you start doing some real reporting and report the story on ACORN! Seems the American people might what to know how Obama's stimulus gave 8.5 billion to this corrupt group known as ACORN. 8.5 billion of TAXPAYERS MONEY!

And next time a Democrat or Republican disrespect the rules of good conduct I hope they to this again unless they apologize immediately. Clyburn is right "silence is consent" Be role models and call these guys out when they act childishly. Republicans who didn't vote for the resolution is sending Obama a message and kissing up to the extremes in their party, and that's not right.

I love who the liberals here are pretending that the Democrats are paragons of civility.

Why was it okay for Rep Stark to call Bush a liar, in a speech on the House floor?

Why was it okay for the Demcorats to boo Bush at a State of the Union address?

    You're all hypocrites.

The President, as usual, was a class act in accepting this loud mouth's apology. But, as it was clear by Wilson's comments the next day that his apology was not sincere, and as he embarrassed himself and the Congress by being such a disrespectful boor, this was appropriate. What was inappropriate was the Republicans accepting such behavior.

Good, now strip hiim of any authority. We are Americans and our Congress deserves to be respected. Hecklers do not have a place in it. People should never be allowed to act that way. This is not just about insulting the President of the United States. This is about conduct in the workplace, in Congress, and in the eyes of the world. People like Joe Wilson make our judiciary system seem like a joke when they act like this. Shame on you Joe Wilson, you deserve to be punished for this selfish act. Why are you even still in office.

Wow, these people are absolute idiots. And, we as Americans voted them in. Why was it perfectly acceptable for people to yell out in the past? Was Mr Wilson lying when he called Pres Obama a liar...I think not.

This punk insulted all of us. All the excuses posted here and on Fox media are lame, if not down right un-patriotic, if liar were yelled at Bush/Cheney (who did lie to the Congress) all these people who think Wilson is a hero would be whining at the top of their pitty pot and stomping their feet.
Repugs claim they are strong, but they always play the victim.

I wonder if Chef Nancy will add "pound of flesh" to the House snackbar menus now? She and her grandstanding goons have only managed to further discredit thier ability to the get business of the taxpayers accomplished!

I'm glad they did this. Not a political "stunt," but an official slap on the wrist for very bad behavior. Why have rules if there's no repercussions? I saw Boehner railing about how nice Wilson is, how he has 4 military sons. So what? What kind of example does he set for them? A bad one. It's a small gesture toward restoring a tiny bit of civility to a country where some have gone stark raving mad.

Congress did a wonderful thing today. Now this Bozo Wilson will go down in history as being the first Congress to heckle the president in it's 220 year history. Imagine that, oh and the president just happened to be the first black president. Oh, and the Congressman just happened to have worked for Strom Thurman, and he just happened to have been a memeber of some separatist group. No, he shouted at the president for a reason, and his apology was phony and fake.

Kudos to the Congress for reprimanding this idiot.

Doesn't this just blow your mind? All the very important issues facing our country and our low-life politicians are playing games because someone spoke the truth!! Maybe it wasn't the proper place to speak out but it is really time someone did speak out. obama lies thru his teeth with every speech he makes. I sit and scream the same thing to the tv.

Their is such a thing as protocol that each and every Senator and House of Representative MUST comply with. Failure to comply allows their peers to admonish them. Many Dem and Repub have had to stand before their peers and apology for his or her action. Senator Veeter , Senator Ensige(sp) and the fine Excongressman T. Delay stood up an apology for their sin. Why do some of you feel that Wilson is above complying with the policy and preocedures? He could have came out of the well and spoke with the press and said whatever, it is just that one does not (in this Country) yell out while a President is speaking. Wilson actions denoted his lack of class

I think that maybe this country needs to start teaching everyone manners -

  22. Filthy Liar = Wilson

This moron actually blamed the president for his outburst. As if the president made him open his filthy mouth and shout untruths.

Save the drama for your momma, Wilson. I'm not buying it. You're a dirty filthy liar and you should be ashamed.

Well done by the House. The President deserves the respect of whites or at least when addressing Congress. I know the President is black and the gang of white southern males are low on Maalox, but Come on, there has to be a minimum
    of respect somewhere!

  24. Waste of Time Wilson

In la la land, the GOPers can tell themselves that Wison didn't mean to do what he did and that it was just one big mistake. Let's fogive him and move on because we have a healthcare bill to kill.

In the real world, smart people know that the GOPers never did care about healthcare, except to block mal-practice suits.

Wilson is a moron because he thinks he can throw shiny objects up in the air and we will all forget what a jerk he is. Go back to la la land, Wilson, we're not buying it.
