Jenny Sanford's memoir will be published in May 2010.
Jenny Sanford's memoir will be published in May 2010.

(CNN) – Jenny Sanford, the estranged wife of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, is writing a book.

Sanford has sold the rights to her "inspirational memoir" to Ballantine Books, a division of Random House, the publisher told CNN Tuesday. The memoir is slated for release in May 2010.

Ballantine did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. Aside from a flattering interview with Vogue magazine, Sanford has remained mostly silent since June, when her husband publicly revealed an affair with an Argentine woman. In July, she and the couple's four boys moved out of the governor's mansion.

Gov. Sanford also had a deal to write a book about fiscal conservatism before the scandal short-circuited his political career. Sentinel Publishing was planning to publish "Within Our Means" in March 2010, but the company released Sanford from the deal in July, calling it "a mutual decision."

Its about time a women in her position left her cheating husband!!! So many women who are married to men in office just look the other way, I'm not sure why, its probly the money? To hell with that, I would rather sleep in the streets than live with a husband who is having an affair. More women should be like Jenny, she is setting the right example. YOU GO GIRL!

George   September 22nd, 2009 5:30 pm ET

It's cash in time for Jenny. Just wait 'til she files the divorce papers and goes for a nice property settlement from lover boy to top it off.

But don't worry, Mark. I understand that two can live as cheap as one in Argentina.....

Ellie - California   September 22nd, 2009 5:18 pm ET

First I was on her side and felt compassion for her and most of all their children. Now making a book deal to publish her story?! Who cares about for more details and trying to justify to everyone! Stop being like Mr Sanford and a hypocrite!

ljh64819   September 22nd, 2009 5:11 pm ET

Who cares about either book? Certainly not me and, hopefully, not anyone else. Who wants to read about a disfunctional family and why they are getting paid probably millions because of that situation! There are too many people, including myself, who have had to deal several times with a cheating spouse, and the majority of us in the private life have not pubhlished a book!!!

pam Eugene OR   September 22nd, 2009 5:09 pm ET

I say "good for her" if her book does not cause more pain for her children. When that looser said on national TV that he had found his soul mate I ached for his wife. How humiliating for her. He deserves everything bad that comes to him. It was not enough for him to break his vows, lie to everyone and cheat the state and he HAD to tell everyone how great his mistress was. I say ruin the man. He does not deserve the family he had. The selfish ass even did this on Father's day weekend!

GOPer   September 22nd, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Anything to make a buck!

Stephee   September 22nd, 2009 5:04 pm ET

I'm not sure if this is considered a good idea. Yet, it was expected.
Sanford better think twice about not resigning once the book hits shelves. For all he's put his wife and kids through (along with so called "Family values" politic), he gets what was coming to him. (More shame)

Mike   September 22nd, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Good for her! She should at least make some money after the so called family values point man did to her and her kids!!

Paul, CA   September 22nd, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Both losers. She's proving it!

DawnL,CA   September 22nd, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Oh good grief! Up til now she showed some class & dignity. What happened? She doesn't need the money & to write a book just to slam her husband seems very low class.
Just get on with your life-the best revenge is to be happy.

wisconsin   September 22nd, 2009 4:36 pm ET

Can't these women just form a support group with each other and leave the rest of us alone?!

jaye   September 22nd, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Good Grief!
Like she's going to air her "dirty laundry" about her cheating husband – she'll write a book full of pure nonsense about how she's "standing by her man."
WHO CARES!!!

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   September 22nd, 2009 4:33 pm ET

What, we haven't heard enough already? Nice going Mrs. Sanford, first you divorce the clown and then make money off of him.

Imagine what would happen if, say, Hillary left Bill and wrote a book. All the right-wingers would have fits!

Marie in California   September 22nd, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Glad she's doing the book deal. And Sanford should just voluntarily step out of the political arena. He's a jerk.

Add him to the long list of philandering politicians of both parties......Willy with the Wandering Willy, John Edwards' hidden mistress and baby, NY governor Eliot Spitzer, and more.

Immoral behavior does not respect party lines. These people are supposed to be the moral and ethical standard-bearers for our country, and when they show moral corruption.....well, they just gotta go.

therealmarie   September 22nd, 2009 4:27 pm ET

The Sanfords should just go away. Who cares about their personal life? What kinda woman is she, to place her personal business for profit, in the public market. Did she even stop to think about what this may do to her kids and other members of her family. If she needs to talk about it, why not seek professional help.

John   September 22nd, 2009 4:25 pm ET

This bozo better resign before this book hits the shelves. The crash and burn from this book will be down right Shakespearian.

Muffet in Georgia   September 22nd, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Paul Ernest Show   September 22nd, 2009 4:15 pm ET

I do not know why anyone will cheat on such a good looking woman. I say "good for her" if she makes a little money. Let her just not write a book to wash their dirty laundry before the world.

Typical   September 22nd, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Typical american garbage! Have tragedy strike home and write about it in a "tell all " book and have every idiot who cares BUY IT!..what a joke...opportunists!

Babs   September 22nd, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Oh, please, no.

Karen   September 22nd, 2009 4:13 pm ET

Pamela   September 22nd, 2009 4:13 pm ET

You go girl!! I will buy copies for every girlfriend of mine, and a copy for each room in my house, my car and my office so that I don't have to carry one copy around. We need more stand up women like you Miss. Might as well cash in on the misery your idiotic husband caused you. Pay back time girl. Revenge has never been sweeter!

Sniffit   September 22nd, 2009 4:12 pm ET

Yawn. Haha...so how do the millions she will get factor into the calculation of alimony payments under SC divorce law? I mean, she wouldn't have a book offer UNLESS he cheated, right? So she should be thanking him lol

Bonnie   September 22nd, 2009 4:02 pm ET

Go for it Jenny, Another Republican family Values husband what is it with that party and all the values thing they talk the talk but boy oh boy they cannot walk the walk. If they just did not try to be so holy holy holy and then there is the famous house in D.C. where are of theses men stay which is very suspicious.

Terry from Texas   September 22nd, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Americans love dirt. The more gossip the better!. Our news channels are mostly gossip now, not news. We learn who's mad at who, who's sleeping with whom, where he did it, when he did it, what she said about it, what her neighbor thinks about it, what her kid's teacher thinks about it, and if it was safe sex.

I want dirt, dirt, and more dirt. This democracy stuff is boring!. I don't care what the exchange rate is or whether China is going to invade India ... tell me who Britney is dating and whether she has put out yet.

Linda   September 22nd, 2009 3:59 pm ET

I guess we should ask every woman whose husband cheated on her to write a book. He CHEATED!!!! THEY ALL DO!!! What can you write about. Let's see..... I was blindsided. He cheated on our family. I was devasted. OK, end of book. Please, I have had enough of these women. People get cheated on everyday. WE don't books about it. We need books from people who stayed married till death do us part and never strayed. NOW THOSE I WILL READ.

Puff the Magic Dragon   September 22nd, 2009 3:58 pm ET

How tacky. Why must everybody air their dirty laundry for money? But I guess if Sarah Palin says it ok, it must be ok. No class.

Kameki, NY   September 22nd, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Does she really care about her kids? If she does, then she shouldn't write this book because it will cause them more pain now and in the future.

Mark from Louisiana   September 22nd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

Her and John Edwards wife should have written the book together so it would be bipartisan

a canuck   September 22nd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I hope Elizabeth Edwards reads it !!!!

HouseDiva   September 22nd, 2009 3:51 pm ET

jenny better make that money. Cash in on her problem...i'd by the book just to give the finger to every stupid woman who stands by her low down cheatin good for nothin husband.

John Black Hills/SD   September 22nd, 2009 3:46 pm ET

There's always a market for books that belongs next to your toilet when you've got 10 minutes to maintain your regularity.

KLK   September 22nd, 2009 3:37 pm ET

It's good that she'll be telling her own story. Good for you, Jenny.

AGoodScout   September 22nd, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Here's the bottom line: Jenny Sanford is being paid to write a book, because due to the scandal surrounding her husband the publisher has some assurance that it will sell. If it doesn't interest you, don't buy it, but this is nothing more than the American way at work i.e. if someone is willing to pay for your goods or services then why not? As for the across-the-aisle fingerpointing, politicians of both stripes have been found guilty of breaking marriage vows. I would agree thought, that it is particularly disgusting when one holds oneself up as a paragon of "family values" and "strong Christian morals" and is nothing but a hypocrite and liar. I think we set ourselves up when we expect the unreasonable, that is that our elected officials be superior human beings–who cares what they do in private if they aren't breaking the law?

Millie Bea   September 22nd, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I hope she's not- up until now she has shown dignity we have not seen in politics for a while.

Lilarose in Bandon, Oregon   September 22nd, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Who cares about an "inspirational memoir?"

I want to know what this woman has to say about the man she is, unfortunately, married to, why she stays with him, what affect his jerkiness is having on her and her four sons, what failures exist in her marriage, how she feels about her hubby's "soul mate" chippie, and on and on.

J.Crobuzon   September 22nd, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Looks to me like you blood-and-thunder "fiscal conservatives" are not very conservative in their relationships, while us crazy liberals are still married to our wives. It's socialism, that's what it is.

Deb (long island)   September 22nd, 2009 3:27 pm ET

Good for Jenny Sanford. Long gone are the days of "standing by your man" no matter what the embarrassment. It is time we had strong women in both political parties.

laura   September 22nd, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Write a book, it's the Republican way.

Wisconsin mom   September 22nd, 2009 3:17 pm ET

For God's sake, Jenny! Dump him and move on already! You will further just hurt your kids more by writing a book! They have been put through enough already!

NVa Native   September 22nd, 2009 3:10 pm ET

Go for it – he said he has found his soul mate and he hasn't been thinking of anyone but himself for a long time. He has embarrased you and your kids for years talking trash, so let it fly. I won't buy it, but if morons like the Beck-ler can make money spreading nasty lies about the Dems & Progressives then an intelligent woman like yourself sure as heck ought to make a buck telling the nasty truths about your hypocrite (republican) hubby.

Chuck, Tennessee   September 22nd, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Why do some of the dems who post here think the Repubs have cornered the market on cheating, lying, abd stealing? People from all parties, all professions, all walks of life, etc will make wrong choices in their lives. It doesn't make every person in the same group a crook, cheater, or liar.

Steve (the real one)   September 22nd, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Many are writing books that few want to read! All these books! What are soap operas for?

Roger   September 22nd, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Jenny writing a tell all? I don't care to hear what she has to say. She wasn't the one running around. She is responsible, wise and mature. I want to hear what the ol' tomcat has to say!! he is irresponsible, foolish and childish, that makes for great reading material. I want to hear all the sordid details of what went on with him and his Argentina soulmate!!

No Incumbents 2010   September 22nd, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Jenny will make millions from her book by playing the sympathy card, and she has every right to do so. Mrs. Sanford is very popular because she dumped her creepy husband, unlike the usual political wifes of Sen. Ensign, Sen. Vitter and Sen. Craig who forgive all kinds of affairs in the name of political expediency. Jenny has a fine reputation to uphold and two boys to raise, so she has every right to defend the Sanford name.

Irma in North Caroliina   September 22nd, 2009 2:57 pm ET

I bet more people will buy this book then they would the one Sarah is putting out.

chelle   September 22nd, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Where in the article does it say she will be revealling personal information? It is a memoir...she can gloss over any ugly details she chooses. What a bunch of inane remarks – she hasn't written a word but you know what she's going to say?

Squirt   September 22nd, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Bob of Lompoc   September 22nd, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Ren from Baltimore   September 22nd, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Well, no one knows really how much money Jenny has. Is it "enough" to pass along to her kids, to keep her healthy and happy in her remaining years?

No one really knows either what sort of ghosts she needs to rid herself of. All those times when the Governor was on travel, couldn't make a family dinner or ball game or holiday...what, she must now think, was going on all that time?

For most of us, this is a set of experiences and questions we will never have to consider. Reading about it, mostly ladies I presume, will help with the empathy we all feel toward Jenny Sanford. Good luck to her and the family.

This was what the sorry SANFORD WAS HOLDING OUT FOR. Perople ought to ban the bvook right up front. No one should profit for immorality.

Lee   September 22nd, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Maybe she is writing this book for her children – to confirm that there is a sense of responsibilty in one of their parents. Money was definitely not the motive of her book as she is already rich herself. In fact some blogger even mentioned that each of their boys are richer than their father ever will be.

I think the book is good for women in general, that we need not stand behind or by our idiotic husbands. She gave her best to her husband and he threw her under for an insecure, selfish, immoral woman who should have known better as she herself has a broken marriage. Now he realizes his mistake but the glass is cracked and almost impossible to repair.

Steph   September 22nd, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Bill of Florida   September 22nd, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Typical of republicans. Use their family, embarrass them and drag them through the mud for a little cash. Republicans have NO family values at all!

Yes, I agree: It was horrible what her husband did to her. But let's be serious, it's not like she didn't know he was a horrible person. He was a republican when she married him after all. It's just the way they are.

Phat Elvis   September 22nd, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Best of luck to her, that stupid governor threw away a real gem.

Another smart woman, just like Elizabeth Edwards, looking out for the financial welfare of she and her children knowing her husband isn't trustworthy. These two women have no way of knowing what the financial fallout will be due to their husbands adultry and the possibility of other children due to their affairs. They are smart in protecting and generating their own assets for themselves and their children and not for those outside of their marriages. Women can learn a lot from them by not sitting around waiting for the courts to decide who shares assets.

It's a shame that with so much great literature on the bookselves that we are constantly exposed to marginal ghost writing about someone's misery. I guess I should'nt get too upset, the average American does not read one book a year, let alone pick up a newspaper.

Judi from Frisco   September 22nd, 2009 12:45 pm ET

I doubt that it will make Oprah's book club. Mrs. Sanford, from what I have read, doesn't need the money. The family should have had enough of all this public scrutiny. I don't understand her motivation. Is it that many people simply have a burning desire to be a published author?

Navy Vet   September 22nd, 2009 12:43 pm ET

Charlotte   September 22nd, 2009 12:35 pm ET

From what I read in the news when all of this love story started was that Mrs. Sanford was always in the Gov. office, and beside him, sort of an Asst. She will be running for office soon for something, as it seems this is where her interest and heart has always been.

LacrosseMom   September 22nd, 2009 12:35 pm ET

ThinkAgain   September 22nd, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Listen up, young women of America! Here's your recipe for success:

1. Marry a famous man or someone on the way up. Preferably a politician.
2. Have some children with him
3. Enjoy the perks of "the good life".
4. Put up with his infidelities until it gets so bad that you have to leave him.
5. Act all dignified when you speak publically about the "affair".
6. Leave your husband.
7. Ink a tell-all book deal, throwing your children, your Ex and anyone else involved in your sordid life under the bus.

Well, done, girls! You have accomplished the American Dream!

Jean   September 22nd, 2009 12:30 pm ET

She is already rich from her family BEFORE she married Sanford.
She has been embarrassed, humiliated and treated like crap by her husband who had MANY opportunities to rectify the situation.
There is nothing more that she can do to embarrass her children: Governor Sanford did that all on his own. The woman is clearing HER name. Let her do it and give her some respect. Lord knows she didn't get it from her husband of 20 years.

The Republicans at one time saw Stanford as a potential presidential candidate and he was leader of the Republicans Governors Association. His severe personality disorder should have been apparent to the powers that be in the republican Party, but that pack of good-old boys gave it only a wink and nod. Mrs. Stanford had the background and clearly the potential to run for office, but in typical Republican fashion, she was filtered out by the Republican political machine that favors ONLY fundamentally-flawed, white males and stupid, pretty females.
