Obama continues media blitz on Letterman

NEW YORK (CNN) - President Obama mixed policy discussion with personal reflections on his daughters and, yes, a few jokes in an appearance on CBS's "Late Show With David Letterman," taped Monday afternoon.

was the first time a sitting president has been a guest on the popular late-night entertainment show, according to the CBS Web site.

After taking the stage to a huge ovation, Obama teased Letterman about being surprised to see the event on his daily schedule, saying: "That's one of those where you ask your advisers, 'who's responsible for this?' "

Later, when talking about summer activities of daughters Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, Obama said that they "goofed off," which he added was something he couldn't do. Letterman quickly quipped: "Well, you have," prompting a big laugh from both the audience and the president.

On topical issues, Obama promised to ask "tough questions" before deciding whether to send additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan, saying it was necessary to have a clear strategy in place before deploying resources.

My favorite part was when Obama said he was black before the election, in response to Letterman's question about whether race was a factor is some of his opposition. Good for him for not playing the victim card.

One of Obama's biggest strengths is his thick skin, a necessity for any successful politician. He doesn't take things personally, and he doesn't get bogged down with vengeance and petty vendettas.

Obama seems to be very grateful for the opportunity to lead this country, but he doesn't expect it to be easy. He signed up for this, knowing it was going to be tough, and he is up for the challenge.

I am SO glad this man is our President.

Go on FOX and answer some real questions. Tired of watching the same old broken record with News people too afraid to ask REAL questions. George came the closest and at least asked about ACORN, but as usual NO answer from Obama, he pleads ignorance. Too busy, to be concerned about Millions of OUR dollars being wasted on this corrupt organization..........oh yeah, they got him elected with Mickey Mouse!

When President Obama said that he couldn't have goofed off all summer, Letterman did not respond, "Well, you have," as stated above. What he said was, "Others have." Letterman's comment was clearly a jab President Bush's lengthy vacations. Get it right CNN.

Awesome job. The mainstream normally stay out of touch with the day to day news of politics. This spot gives people a reminder why we elected him. Definately an improvement from the last POTUS and canidate.

It's never too early to start thinking about your next career, because he will need to.

Does this guy ever work at governance, or just flit around playing rock star, and spending $7,000 dollars a night for his suite of rooms. Welcome to transparency, and the world of elite socialists.

From your article: "Later, when talking about summer activities of daughters Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, Obama said that they "goofed off," which he added was something he couldn't do. Letterman quickly quipped: "Well, you have," prompting a big laugh from both the audience and the president."

No, Letterman said "Well, some have" and that's what prompted that big laugh from the audience and the president.

Letterman didn't say "Well you have", he said (if you listen) "Others have"

    Actually Letterman said "Others have."

Obama is hoping his charisma will be enough to dupe the voters and allow him to usher in his "change" (totalitarianism).

Makes one wonder what his "tough questions" will be.

President Obama is one of the hardest working presidents ever. I guess with the mess he inherited he has no other choice.

"This is not untypical," he said. "One of the things you sign up for in politics is, folks yell at you."

For you Palin apologizers – this is the difference between real presidential material and pretend vice presidential material. Obama isn't crying about unfairness or using advisors and aides as scapegoats to hide an inability to deal with questions and criticism.

In response to Obama's comment in your posted video that he didn't take the summer off, Letterman said, "Well, some have." He was probably referring to Bush's lengthy vacations in Texas. Was there a separate comment about summer vacation to which Letterman "quipped, 'Well, you have," or did your reporter hear it incorrectly? If the latter, please correct the text above.

This reporter did not hear Letterman correctly. When the President said that his daughters 'goofed off' over the summer and that he wasn't able to, Letterman's response was: "Others have". The clear intendment was that President Bush was the 'other' who goofed off in the summers. It was hilarious and got a big laugh.

I cannot believe the Pres of US went on this scummer's show. Did they both laugh and chortle again about children being raped and
how mentally challenged Americans can't bowl?
