House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said House Democrats need further negotiations before bringing a final version of a health care bill to debate.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday House Democrats need further negotiations before bringing a final version of a health care bill to debate before the full chamber.

At her weekly news conference, the California Democrat said she expects a final version soon that would have the support of the full Democratic caucus, which holds a majority in the House.

"We're on course to be ready soon" to put out a bill to the full House, she told reporters after meeting with the House Democratic caucus.

Three House committees have passed their versions of a Democratic proposal, and Democratic leaders are now trying to merge the three into one proposal for floor debate.

The discussions are in large part to inform members about the decisions under consideration and the impact on the health care debate, Pelosi said.

DO NOT STOP FIGHTING FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION, SPEAKER PELOSI!

Nothing less will fix huge problems in our health care system.

Deuce   September 24th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

Pelosi, Losie her marbles?

Terry, Lakeland Florida   September 24th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

wait I thought Obama already had all of the answers and his bill was the best thing the world had ever seen....why are we still debating this?

Sam Sixpack   September 24th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

What will happen when Pelosi & friends take $500 billion from your grandmother's health care and gives it to fat, greedy insurance execs.

When your children are sick, how are you going to take them to a doctor when you already gave, as required by law, all you could "afford" to fat, greedy insurance execs? Whereas you've already paid all you could afford, how will you have any money left to meet your deductable and co-pay?

Pelosi why don't you wise up. your the most unpopular woman ever in politics.

Dave   September 24th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Question is – Will Speaker Pelosi provide an opportunity to House members to READ the legislation before voting on it? This is a joke and EVERY American should be outraged that the House will actual vote on a major piece of legislation without providing an opportunity for the members to read the bill. But as we know, it's an outrage if Rep's do it and just fine & dandy if Dem's do it.

T   September 24th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Keep your fingers out of my health care! Why don't you spend your time fixing social security and medicare funding? Maybe if the illegals were forbid from using out health care systems, school systems, etc. there would be ample money left over to fund some of the desired items on the slate. Anyone in this country illegally should: 1) have ALL assests siezed for sale to pay of the debt and their return to port of entry, 2) as their family now has nothing left they can leave too, no one wants to make them stay here and suck the small pool of welfare/etc. money dry, 3) be forever forbidden entry into the United States of America. I believe this would allieviate approximate 1/2 of the uninsured in this country, and many choose to not be insured for their own reasoning and should not be FORCED to have medical insurance. I agreed that anyone operating a motor vehicle should have the mandatory insurance, and if they fail to carry it, or drive without a license, should be charged with manslaughter as that seems to be their intention of not caring.

Oh boy! Wonder how much this is going to cost the taxpayers? Seeing that obama continues to lie, about the FACT that the taxpayers are still going to have to pay for illegal un-documented people FREE healthcare. obama I have a question for you? If illegal people in this country can get FREE healthcare. Why can us taxpayers get FREE healthcare then? Here's an idea obama. Why don't you pay for all of the illegals that are using the big LOOPHOLE in our system, out of your own pocket?

Mike, Syracuse, NY   September 24th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

The Dems won't ageree to a 72 hour waiting period. Heaven forbid that we see what's actually there before it becomes law. They want another pork filled disaster like the stimulus which no one read before the vote.

katiec   September 24th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Why should insurance companies be given time to get their act together. They have had total control and are raping the American people. They give bonuses to people who deny claims. They have cancelled heath care policies with pre existing conditions such
as acne and toe fungus. They are leeches who have profit, greed
and power as their goals.
Public Option will make the insurance companies become accountable, competitive and perhaps bring back some integrity
to the health care entities. Public Option is the only true plan that will benefit middle class, less fortunate, senior citizens and disabled.
Please, contact every politician you can and demand Public Option.
Go to ussenators.com and e mail them or phone. We must be
heard and we must take America back.

Does anyone actually listen to this woman?

Mississippi Miss   September 24th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

She speaks, we worry. I bet she is a very kind person, genuinely sweet and sensitive, but somehow she has lost her way. So many times lately, she has given statements which were quickly contradicted by President Obama's administration. I wish her well when she leaves office, but it cannot be soon enough for our country's sake. We really can't believe what the insider Democrats have to say.
Put on your sherlock hat America, and see if you can figure out what in the heck is really going on with those amazing people who are supposedly in charge right now. 2010 .... we can overcome!

Dar   September 24th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

My My My, Rush Rush Rush, when will she learn that the bill has to be right and for a bill to be good for the American people we all have to agree with it. This wont happen over night like BO wanted it to.If the Dems do push a bad bill through and of course the President will sign it, so he can say I told you so. I only hope and pray that if this is a bad bill that BO acts like a president and send's it back with a big fat VETO on it.Our country will be broken in half if he doesnt.
God Bless All

victim of republican greed   September 24th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Keep up the good work, Nancy. As for republicans, it appears that Spence, (R-IN), has not had time to read the constitution.

If we put everything on the republican timeline, we would still be debating whether we should get involved in World War II.

TCM   September 24th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Her weekly news conference.....where? In Disney Land? She's dreaming if she thinks the true Americans are going to stand for ANOTHER tax increase, and furthering the entitlement offerings to her voter base. I guess "crying that there's going to be violence..." wasn't working out to well, huh, Nancy? She's one of the most phony people ever to be in the public eye. She's lied about the CIA, she's lied about the Milk assassination, and now she's trying to support such crazy legislation as this....she needs to be put away....far, far away....

SallySue   September 24th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Hang on America – the "WICKED WITCH" is out to have her way with your wallets.

Kevin in Ohio   September 24th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

"Debate"? This woman has no clue as to waht that word means. She will ram this government takeover down our throats despite the fact that a majority of Americans are against it.

victim of republican greed   September 24th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

According to Boehner, it seems like it was yesterday when Teddy Roosevelt tried to get this done. Or maybe last night when President Kennedy proposed it. What's the rush?

aaron B.   September 24th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

I am not a Pelosi fan,
but if she keeps in a public option, and unifies the Dems enough to prop up the Dems without any spine to actually pass some health care reform that has meaning. . . I (and my family) will be eternally grateful.

Lisa P   September 24th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Rep. John Boehner, the House minority leader, criticized Democrats for continuing what he characterized as hurried efforts to force through their legislative proposals.

I guess any pace is "hurried" when you want nothing to happen. The only trust that has been undermined as far as I'm concerned is that the "Party of No" ever had any interest in reforming health care in the first place.

The only thing the GOP stands for these days is bad government. With "leaders" like Boehner I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Rose   September 24th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Good luck Pelosi, I don't think you have the votes especially if you include the public option aka Government run health care. Too much government now, we don't need anymore. I hope it falls flat, it would serve her right, she thinks she runs this country.

Dan is very much alive and well in Louisville, KY   September 24th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

So What!

We all know very well that the Democrats will cram this down our throats no matter what!!

Meanwhile The so called smartest man to ever be President (but hopelessly Naive) makes promises to the world as if he will be President for longer than 4-8 years.

The Democratic Party is becoming the laughing stock of the entire world.

Hopefully, the idiots who voted for this nest of fools will begin to realize how dumb that decision was and begin to vote sensibly again.

It's not too late (yet) to save our country.

YOU NEVER POST MY COMMENTS... HMMM WONDER WHY   September 24th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

shut up, nancy.

you're a moron.

Mike in MN   September 24th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Maybe this will be the Obama dream bill he is givng speech after speech about. So far there is no bill in the House or Senate that supports all of Obama's promises on what reform will and will not do. Maybe this will be the bill that makes his fantasy a reality. Of course it will have to pass the scrunity of voters who will be reading it and it will have to be scored by the CBO. To measue up to Obama's promises the CBO will have to say it will reduces the deficit, not add to it. Obama has made the wild claim at least twice now that reform will reduce the deficit by $4 trillion. I won't hold Obama to that if the CBO comes back with say $2 trillion in deficit reduction. Any bets that will happen.

Idiot_Pelosi   September 24th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

PELOSI is one of the worst politicians in the US Government.

She is an embarrassment.

It's time for this "BOTOX" politician to retire and go away.

To quote OBUMMER, "It's time for a change!!!"

wait a minute   September 24th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Medicare Part D also has a trigger, but private insurers have tricks to avoid the trigger. Any trigger is only doing private insurers more good at the expense of American people.

We need the Public Option now.

How many more families do we have to bankrupt before any trigger kicks in? Medical bankruptcies are shame on us collectively in this 21st century.

Ryan, Council Bluffs   September 24th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Maybe it won't have a big budget cut for Medicare! The Congressional Budget Office reports the Senate bill calls for reductions of more than $400 billion over 10 years to the growth of spending in Medicare and other federal health programs. That should make SENIORS uneasy.

Mark   September 24th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

www.ActBlue.com   September 24th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

After decades of letting private sector interests create huge problems in our health care system, we need real reform. THIS REFORM – OR FAILURE OF REFORM – WILL AFFECT US FOR DECADES TO COME.

Americans want the Public Option!

Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic Congress:

I STAND WITH YOU!

R in Maine   September 24th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Status quo just means that the GOP is able to steal money for another year. They should pass it and stomp Boehner's but. GOP never undermines my trust, I am always sure that they will steal all they can from the gitgo.

Kelby In Houston, Texas   September 24th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Forget about any bipartisan efforts.
WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION
Forget about the Blue Dog Democrats
They will be voted out and replaced with someone who will provide the people witha a public option.
You say the House is still drafting a final bill? Well that bill had better include a public option. Why?
BECAUSE WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION
This is the mantra of the people who voted Obama and the Dems into power. This is why we sent you to Washington.
WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION.
If you agree with me, sing along with me.
WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION
For what ever reason you can think of, say it with me now.
WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION
Tell your local politician,
WE WANT A PUBLIC OPTION

Four and The Door   September 24th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

"One thing I know for sure at the end of the day, the public option is the strongest lever to get the best outcome for America's working families," Pelosi said. ____________________________________________________
But this is the lever that puts insurance companies out of the health care business. This is how the Public Option kills competition. If this is not the intent then how does she suggest this does not happen?

She was the same expert that said the Stimulus was about jobs. How can she have credibility with anybody after that?

Willy Brown   September 24th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Will not pass!

Denis - Toronto On.   September 24th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

U.S. NEWS media gives all the attention to healthcare reform opponents, but ignores a Harvard study, reported last week in the American Journal of Public Health, that found nearly 45,000 people die in the U.S. each year largely because they lack health insurance. Resistance to U.S. healthcare reform continues on with vicious and even racist overtones.

Harvard's Dr. David Himmelstein wrote recently in the New England Journal of Medicine β€œThe only real solution is public healthcare for all. A Canadian-style plan could save Americans $400 billion a year.” Americans are so uninformed about the rest of the world that few even seem aware any Canadian can spend several weeks in hospital receiving state-of-the-art medical treatment and then leave without owing anything.

Kentucky   September 24th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

I hope so. We need healthcare reform badly in this country. The GOP are no help at all. All they want to do is detroy anything Obama attempts. They have no vision for this country whatsoever

Bluebonnet   September 24th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

I can hardly wait to see what this "itch" has as a "healthcare bill". She's so stupid – all of us seniors are in big trouble!!
