Senator released from hospital

Sen. Robert Byrd has been released from the hospital.
Sen. Robert Byrd has been released from the hospital.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. Robert Byrd, D-West Virginia, was released from the hospital Thursday after falling in his home two days earlier.

The 91-year-old Byrd has been hospitalized since Tuesday so that doctors could "monitor and treat a spike in his white-blood cell count, a symptom that is usually an early sign of an infection," the senator's office said in a statement.

His office also said that the senator "is looking forward to engaging in the upcoming debate and votes on health care reform – one of the most critical issues facing this Congress."

Over the next couple of days, Byrd will continue his recovery at home, his office said.

The longest serving senator in U.S. history, Byrd was first elected to the House in 1952 and was elected to the Senate in 1958.

Are the Democrats ready to roll Byrd in on a hospital bed to be the 60th vote for cloture

Sorry for this, but I really do not understand what a man of 91 years old is doing still working. This guy just needs to retire. I do not want to sound rude or unconsiderated twards this man, but the human being has it's limits and definitely a man that is 91 years old should be taken care of at his home, not working in the US Senate.

    Here's a WILD suggestion –

If a Senator needs to use his gold-plated medical care to get assistance with Basic Daily Living Activities.... maybe it's time for the guy to retire????

    I'm just sayin'

I'm sorry, nobody should be in the senate for that long. Especially when their health is that bad. YES that includes McCain.

The democrats are so desperate to hold on to that magical 60 they will do anything. Including keeping people on life support.

Better get it now because come 2010, that 60 is going away.
