Obama: Iran on notice

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Friday that "Iran is on notice" regarding its nuclear efforts, and that the international community is united in its opposition to Tehran's nuclear program.

"Iran is on notice that, when we meet with them on October 1st, they are going to have to come clean and they are going to have to make a choice: are they willing to go down the path to greater prosperity and security for Iran - giving up the acquisition of nuclear weapons and deciding that they are willing to abide by international rules and standards in their in their pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy, or will they continue down a path that is going to lead to confrontation," he said in a news conference at the G-20 meeting here.

"What has changed is that the international community, I think, has
spoken. It is now up to Iran to respond."

The question is "What about Israel's nukes? Why the double standard? The answer is that I don't think Israel is going to sell nuclear weapons to terrorists any time soon. And that is the real danger in Iran. If the Iranians make one or even a few nuclear weapons, there is no way they can use them. They know that they will be wiped out as a country. But if they sell one to terrorists who don't care, well then that is another story.

President Obama's stand is correct and very respectable. He's pushing for a Nuke free world, and most nations that have the bomb want the same and have already ceased on making new ones...or have they? But those who have them want to keep them until everyone else disarms. Those who want them want equal opportunity. Doesn't make it easy, so enter politics.

I assume that all the GOPers calling for an attack on Iran are members of the military, and since they themselves might end up in harm's way, their opinion is absolutely valid.

Otherwise they're chickenhawks who need to do like Bill O'Reilly says and shut up.

Does everyone know Israel, or more aptly Begin and Netanyahu, invented terrorist bombings at the Hotel David? Killing 91 British? Who saved their "bacon" during WW2 and gave them a home?
Where are cheney and Rumsfeld when we need them? I say we bury the middle east and start over. -> apparently spending your dough as Iran built this place,. Smart one are ye?

And heres what I like about Obama... he knows the cards he's holding. We (as normal citizens) do not know any of the military plans he has for Iran, but with his intelligence, it doesnt matter how much chest pounding he does or doesnt do. I think he has the backbone to pull the trigger on any action needed, covertly or publicly.

Without the use of threats, I believe we have the means of dealing with Iran without even putting boots on the ground. On top of that, Im absolutely sure Israel has just been waiting for an excuse to unload on Iran with a "Second Strike Ability". The Iranian President lost any legitemacy with his U.N speech, and this time around, I doubt the world will have any tolerance or grandstanding when it comes to Nuclear threats. Obama wont sing "Bomb, Bomb Iran...." but he might whisper "Take out their leader...".

  8. GET REAL.

With the bullet shortages, armed citizens at town halls, cries for middle-eastern blood, and hate/vitirol all over the Internet message boards, I seriously wonder what percentage of Americans on the right are ready to start a war with THEIR OWN government.

Maybe I should start up a poll over at FOXnews: "If a civil war broke out against the current Socialist government run by a mu5lim dark1e bleeding-heart liberal, would take up the call to arms?"... Haha, I bet you I could get the loonies to push the "yes"es up into the double digits.

Wow Obama has them shaking in their boots !!! Not.
Iran has no respect for Obama, they thumbed their noses at Bush and they will laugh out loud at Obama. Lets see, they have been doing that for what 30 years. My guess is Israel will eventually step in and solve the matter.

The right wings' same old same old is just becoming background noise like the rant of "aproudmemberof the unpatrioticmob" .

Pres. Obama is building a consenus, a REAL coalition and is making sure he is not LIEING to the world. If the seven-eight month appraisal the right is devoting to Pres Obama's progress, why couldn't Bush?Cheney have stopped 911 after their first seven months?

If it means that much to Isreal then we should back them (Isreal) up with force.
If they are going to talk and get past this they have to do it before it goes further because Isreal might flinch.

Well said, JOE MUSTICH! WHY the double standard? Why continue nuclear proliferation? We have enough nukes to blow ourselves 1000 times over!

This is not George Bush's fault. This is the UN's mess. Why would anyone be afraid of the UN if all they do is talk? Saddam broke 17 UN resolutions.

    Or what????????
A-jad knows no democrat is going to launch an invasion of Iran. So long as Obama and Mrs. Clinton allow Russia and China to support Iran's nuclear ambitions, nothing is going to change.

So far, Obama sounds firm enough, although it seems that Iran already did "come clean." What our President does after the October 1 meeting will reveal more of his ability to handle national defense.
After the disclosure of the facility at Qom, I wondered what Democratic presidents like JFK–remember the Cuban missiles?–and Harry Truman would have done in this situation.
We need a truly strong president right now.

When is Israel going to be put "on notice" to give up its nuclear arsenal?

Double standards like this do a lot to hurt the US position in the mid-east.

On notice for what? What are we going to do? None of the allies have the stomach for standing up to Iran and all we do is act like "we won't like them." When the President makes statements like this, there needs to be a strategy.

By the way, does this sound like Iraq a few years ago or is it me?

I back the President 100%, but I hope in th eend we don't have to use a military option. Unfortunately, the right wants another war and looks like they just might get it...I caution them all though, beware of what you wish for, things don't always turn out as planned.
