The Broadway seats Barack and Michelle Obama sat in that are currently on the auction block.

(CNN) – The seats Barack and Michelle Obama sat in while watching a Broadway play during a "date" in New York City are now on the auction block for charity.

The money will go to Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.  According to their Web site, Broadway Cares is "the nation's leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS fundraising and grant making organization."

The seats – K101 and K102 – belonged to the Belasco Theater, the second oldest house on Broadway that is currently being renovated.  The Obamas saw the show "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" in late May as part of a "date" the president took the first lady to in New York City.

The opening bid is $500.  The auction winner will also receive the show's poster, a signed Playbill and the framed front page of the New York Post with a full page photograph of the President and First Lady giving the cast a standing ovation.

Online pre-bids are being taken right now through tomorrow September 26 and the live auction will take place on Sunday at 5 P.M. ET.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING

YBM   September 25th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

They will never be able to get the smell out of those chairs. I would not want them in my neighborhood.

kimberly   September 25th, 2009 9:47 pm ET

wow, the level of ignorance goes up a notch every time a republican SPEAKS! These seats are from one of the oldest Broadway theatres in NY, and are a piece of history, and the fact that The Obamas, the GREATEST first family to live in the White House, besides the Clintons, is awesome! A great charity will be getting alot of money. I mean if some idiot paid 63K to eat moose burgers with that twit palin, these will go for hundreds of thousands. I am so proud of our first family, grace, class, and brains, something sorely missing over the last 8 years. We had barny fife and a stepford wife in there, and it will take awhile to fix that disaster

joe m   September 25th, 2009 9:39 pm ET

i guess anything touched by the president is potential merchandize. what's next? the napkin they used during their first night at the white house? just my two cents, but this is getting a little silly.

rjt   September 25th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

probably couldn't get the stink off of them so they need to be sold

grant turnage   September 25th, 2009 9:24 pm ET

maybe if we're lucky soon they'll auction off the couple's dirty q-tips!

grant turnage   September 25th, 2009 9:22 pm ET

this is STUPID....why is everyone so amazed with our pres and his wife?

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   September 25th, 2009 9:09 pm ET

63K for lunch with the she twit and the seccionist, perhaps their last public appearance before the divorce, then these two seats should bring in quite a bit more!

CHRISEZ   September 25th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Wow! I heard seats to a Broadway show are expensive, but I had no idea! Bet they are sold for a couple thousand.

No Hillary = No Obama   September 25th, 2009 8:46 pm ET

Are you kidding? This takes the cake.

Debby   September 25th, 2009 8:13 pm ET

You have got to be kidding. If anyone bids on this has lost it.

kyle   September 25th, 2009 8:13 pm ET

I wouldn't bid on it. But I would def. comment on this article and prove how much of a loser I am... I see I have many people in here feeling the same way.. haha

David   September 25th, 2009 8:08 pm ET

I'm a big supporter of the President but I think this is silly

LYNETTE IN CA   September 25th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

The chairs will go for quite a bit of money!
The nay sayers here will eat crow and lots of it!
Sad, but true that you really have no clue.

Loup Garou 782   September 25th, 2009 7:50 pm ET

No doubt they will be purchased by someone who wants to spend the rest of their days smelling the seats, someone like tingly legged Chris Wallace or Barney Frank.

Carnell From Detroit, MI USA   September 25th, 2009 7:32 pm ET

I See Amoung Some Of These Blogs That There's No Shortage Of Ignorant And Hateful Comments To Be Made. I'll Say Good Luck To The Winning Bids And To Charity.

Chris   September 25th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

I like the Obamas, but this is ridiculous– sychophancy.

Wolfgirl   September 25th, 2009 7:23 pm ET

I wonder if the shoe that was thrown on President Bush in Iraq will go on Auction soon?

pc   September 25th, 2009 7:21 pm ET

Those seats are valuable. People see the value in the Obamas. They are awesome!!!

GGG   September 25th, 2009 7:15 pm ET

WHO CARES!!!! real honest news would be good for a change CNN!!!

Fitz in Texas   September 25th, 2009 7:10 pm ET

I'll pass....I have much better things to spend my money on.

Jill, CO   September 25th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

Trust me, these chairs will be well over the starting bid. There are a lot of people with money who can afford them. I think it would be an honor to have something that was remotely related to the first African American couple.

Love it.

Obama/Biden 2012

Lannie, FL   September 25th, 2009 7:06 pm ET

I wish I could afford them. But I can't , so I'll have to dream of maybe meeting the president and shaking his hand someday.

Obama/Biden 2012

Michele   September 25th, 2009 7:03 pm ET

But a 'maybe' dinner with Palin was sold for what? This is a great cause, but what in the world would people do with these seats? I guess if you own a theater they could be incorporated into your seating area somehow. Otherwise, I can't see anyone having a use for them (much like flying to Alaska to eat with Palin...yuck!)

Michael - Portage, Mi   September 25th, 2009 7:01 pm ET

Leave it to the "nattering naboobs" to turn a charitable fund-raiser into political fodder. It's a fund-raiser. If you don't like them, don't bid on them......and shut up.

Willy Brown   September 25th, 2009 6:57 pm ET

What's next the toilet seat too?

GET REAL.   September 25th, 2009 6:35 pm ET

If you even have the gall to post a hateful insult aimed at the first family on this topic, then all I can say is that your mothers must have been the lowest forms of life on this planet... I mean, look what they turned out: disrespectful haters who have no class and think their judgment really is going to make a difference, when they will always be just like their parents: do-nothing wastes of space.

Learn how to live right, and recognize an an act of charity when you see it.

jenkemhuffer   September 25th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

the ursurpers sow sharted on one of them.

ZAAKI   September 25th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

What we sow, we will reap it sooner or later. Be careful with your nastiness, and sinister lamenting. It will come back to bite you in a very bad way – bad health...long and lengthy, a terrible tragedy, or something you might not have thought would ever happen to you. President & Mrs. Obama are good upstanding people. Why the bitterness and anger towards them. The earth is getting hotter, scientists are worried and hugely concerned that the ice is melting way sooner than expected, people are being flooded out of their homes, and being swept away and drowned in the process. Can't we find time to be better people, and do better things with our time, as opposed to slamming, and spewing hate. I would imagine it is very frightening to lay dying and unable to ask for forgiveness, or changed your ways before dying. No one knows the hour, or time of death. Why not make each moment count with kindness and being a nicer person. What does it hurt? God bless!!!

Pfft   September 25th, 2009 6:21 pm ET

The Obamanation worship is getting out of hand. And, it's more than a little creepy.

Jon-In-CA   September 25th, 2009 6:20 pm ET

Opening Bid: $500

Wow – AIDS has met it's match! Gosh with all the money left OVER from this amazing contribution, we should be able to cure Cancer too!

bimmer   September 25th, 2009 6:19 pm ET

Why?

Patrons refuse to sit on them?

If no takers, donate them to the Presiedential library Obams will be building in Triploi.

Dan   September 25th, 2009 6:19 pm ET

Why should anybody buy this?

RepInGa   September 25th, 2009 6:19 pm ET

How much did that "date" cost the taxpayers? why didnt he pull that little stunt when he was a 1st term senator?

terry, va   September 25th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

They ought to auction off the White House. Wait, they did with Acorn getting the vote, the Czars, the Socialist policies etc. Dig deep in those pockets. Change is all you will have left!!!!!!!

Liberals are Hypocrites!   September 25th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Having these two seats would satisfy the greatest desires of my heart - EVER in my life - and into all eternity forever, Amen. (Enjoying a little second-hand smoke wouldn't be so bad, either.)

JOBLESS IN IOWA   September 25th, 2009 6:13 pm ET

Susan   September 25th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

is it soiled?

ted   September 25th, 2009 5:17 pm ET

I would pay 25 cents. No, thats too much. Nevermind.

phoenix86   September 25th, 2009 5:17 pm ET

I bid $1 million. If someone pays me $1 million, I'll take the seats.

Denna   September 25th, 2009 5:12 pm ET

That is so neat. I wish I could bid. President Obama & First Lady Obama are a pretty good economic machine all alone. It is so wonderful to have a first family who inspires. I am looking forward to an 8-year Obama White House. By the way, I know that there will be the usual detractors. However, how many of you men have taken your wife out on a date night? How many of you women have been taken out on a date night by your husband? Instead of sneering, imitate.

DickCheneyTheMadharchodh   September 25th, 2009 5:01 pm ET

I can tell which one the big arse was on – lol

Bob in Pa   September 25th, 2009 5:00 pm ET

LOL, the things don't even match.
You want to give to AIDs, did deep in your pocketbooks and use some of your own money for a change.
