MACKINAC ISLAND, Michigan (CNN) – Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said he thinks President Barack Obama could be in for an ousting from office similar to what happened to Democratic President Jimmy Carter after his first term.

"I think the people wanted a change," the Florida Republican said, speaking of the election of Obama in November while drawing similarities to events decades earlier.

"They wanted a change back in 1976. You remember? Richard Nixon had been president. That ended. Gerald Ford took over. The people decided they wanted a change. They got one-Jimmy Carter. Four years later, they took care of business-Ronald Reagan."

"It may happen again," Crist went on. "I believe that the people have seen that they wanted a change but not this much. Not this kind, and not this way. America is awake and we're coming back."

Crist, who's now running for U.S. Senate, said Republicans feel a winning streak coming on for the next few years, "so bad they can taste it," he said. "Especially after the seven or eight or nine months that we've had of this new administration."

Crist was the keynote speaker Friday night at the biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island, Michigan.

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor delivered an address himself Saturday morning. Cantor touched on the healthcare debate, calling some of the options being discussed in Washington of late "ill-defined," adding they would be "a gamble," according to remarks sent out by Cantor's campaign committee.

The Mackinac conference is held every other year-non-election years-and brings together politicians and candidates from across the state of Michigan, as well as national Republican figures making waves.

Also scheduled to speak this year is Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Both men have been rumored to be considering a presidential run in 2012.

Two years ago, this conference brought together the likes of previous presidential hopefuls. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani, and Fred Thompson all attended in 2007.

The problem is that, though Obama may have represented a change from GWB and the neo-con nuts, he was actually just a reversion to FDR and the tax-and-spend nuts. There's nothing new about Obama other than, possibly, the magnitude of his profligacy and the scope of his determination to seize all political power and concentrate it in Washington.

The country doesn't need, and can't afford, this endless parade of political extremists dominating government. We need an end to politicians with their damned "visions for America."

Just keep the bad guys on the far side of some ocean and keep the states from going to war with each other. That's mostly what the people who wrote the Constitution wanted the Federal government to do, and, as far as I'm concerned, the country would be a whole lot better off if was reined back to doing just that.

Crist didn't predict Carter-esque loss for Obama. He is not God messenger. Like many GOP, he wanted Carter-esque loss for Obama. They wanted the president to fail.

Proud member of "Global Zero:   September 26th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Way to go Crist. First you beg for stimulus money then let it be held up in our state legislature. Lowers the property taxes here and wonders why Dade and Broward have to lay off all the police, fireman, and teachers. Why don't you work a little bit on insurance in this state. It is way out of control. I have never lived in a state with such high premiums. This is for all insurance, car, property and health. Don't even get me started on the gas prices.

The president deserves your respect. You will not get my families vote for the senate. We are democrats, republicans, and independants all suffering with our 10.6 percent unemployment. This is your job....not the presidents.

Nonsense...

This is no prophet foreseeing the future. He is a Republican, and he is verbalizing his wishful thinking. Obama may lose in 2012, but it's entirely too early for this sort of prediction to be valid.

The only way the Grand OLE Party of Rich, white racists can beat Obama is if they showed their true fascist colors and DIS-ENFRANCISED THE ENTIRE rest of the country, except for those country club, martini swilling losers that have already destroyed America with the Bush – Chaney debacle!

I cannot wait till the Congress taxes the HELL out of those rich bastards. Who will lead the Right? That right wing-nut, EX gov of Alaska?

The Repugs better remember, they are less than a generation now from the grave and the country is fast becoming a majority of minorities!

I wouldn't be licking my chops and sitting to the table too soon if I were a Republican. The Mess the Republicans have made for 8 years has not gone away or faded from Memory.
This is an 8 Year long Republican MESS!!
It will take more than 9 Months to clear this up.
Mr. Crist better remember that and concentrate on Getting Florida back to par before casting Stones!
The Republican Party is Down & Out for a Long, Long time!!
There is No Republican Candidate to take on Pres. Obama and won't be for a while.
We just better hope that Pres. Obama even still Wants the Job after the Mess he was left with!

Nothing but more negativity and criticism from the Right. It seems these days that the only way the Republicans know to build themselves up is by tearing the Democrats down.

I'm originally from Michigan and now live in Florida so I can tell a few things about Mackinac Island and Governor Crist not mentioned in this article. The Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference takes place at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac. It's an exclusive, luxury hotel for the wealthy that know for its preservation of much of the 19th century. Perfect the Republicans. And the biggest ways Governor Crist used to help make the budget – he increased revenues from gambling, hiked up the fines for misdeamenors and slashed social programs. All actions to take more and more money from the poor. All the while leaving untouched many tax exemptions for various industries – all who just happen to be backed by the wealthy. Typical Republican – let's give everything to the rich and screw everyone else.

Dream on, Mr. Crist! All of us who supported Obama so enthusiastically last Nov. are not going to give up on him that easily. There is still lots of time between now and Nov. 2012 for him to help improve the economy and make good on many of his promises. He may not be perfect - who the heck is? - but I sure don't see any Republicans out there who attract my vote in the least.

What's wrong with this guy? Obama's been in office for not even a year and he wants the country to focus on some inane predicted failure. Get off your high horse and help for a change. This country is in a shambles and all these Republican's seem to do is work hard to make things worse, lie (or tell half-truths), spread fear and hate. Shame on you.

Chris   September 26th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Riiiight.. lol, 8 months in Office and republicans are already saying Obama is over and they will win a landslide.. Yea and I bet The Panthers thought they where going to win 2 weeks ago against the eagles when they scored the 1st touchdown, we all know how that ended.. The point is, right now its a tie game halfway through the 1st quarter and republicans are already declaring victory for 2010 and 2012 lol. Wow they get more delusional as the days go by.

Actually im wrong, im giving the republicans waaaay too much credit by saying its now a tie game.. In actuality Obama's approval ratings are now 55% and the GOP current approval rating is 28% hmmm.. Yea Charlie Crist, keep telling yourself whatever makes you sleep better at night buddy.

Smart People   September 26th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

Sorry Crist but i don't think most Americans have forgotten the last 8 YEARS! I don't see the landslide you're predicting.

Tony Martinez   September 26th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

What planet is Charlie Crist on? President Obama inherited a mess from 8 years of President Bush. "American is awake and we're coming back." Oh really?? 45 million Americans with no health insurance, the housing and financial crises (which by the way Gov Crist, your state of Florida is among the worst) More likely the people of Florida will realize what a terrible job you have done and send you to your retirement instead of the U.S. Senate.

Just Me   September 26th, 2009 5:18 pm ET

Please. Christ needs to come out the closet and stop making noise. President Obama will be reelected for a second term.

Republican are going back to one of their basic tenets of PR: If you repeat something often enough and long enough, people will begin to think its true.

Rather than waste my time saying they "feel a winning streak coming", tell me what are the Republicans going to do in place of the policies which cost them dearly in the last election.

ray   September 26th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

President Obama will win next term. If Rep don't support health care reform, they'll loose more seats at both senate and House. The American people now acknowledge the ecomomy is gradually recovered. President Obama= 2 terms

Obama Fan   September 26th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

Obama enjoys tremendous national support and Charlie Crist thinks he's a one term president? Who's gonna beat him? Not Charlie. Charlie Crist's record is as shady as Mitt Romney's. Obama will get health care done, reduce the deficit Clinton-style, win re-election in a walk, and laugh at fools like Crist and Eric Cantor.

Crist, you are totally deranged.

We finally have a leader that is RESPECTED around the world.

A leader that is willing to tackle the TOUGH problems of America instead of trying to trick us into getting into wars for personal agendas.

A leader that is willing to stand up to the "special interests" that have nearly collapsed the US and the world economy through their GREED.

The Republican Party has abandoned its roots of fiscal conservatism nd become the party of factions, the party of "special interests", the party of the "good ol boys", the party of the status quo. It is the party who in the last 3 Republican admnistrations managed to raise the national debt by a staggering 9.5 Trillion dollars. How's that for a conservative party? – Pathetic.
The Republican Party has no leaders, is totally bankrupt of ideas, and now resorts to embracing the distortions, scares and lies and sideshow antics of the right-wingnut talk show hosts like Limbaugh and Beck. The Republican Party is now nothing but a pathetic carnival sideshow. It is time for a real fiscal conservative party to take shape in America and leave this pathetic totally-corrupted "special interest" Republican Party to die a much needed death.

Yeah, and what about the millions of people who wanted Bush out – well now that he is, those millions are thrilled to have a president who is compassionate, intelligent, politically savvy, dignified, and one that makes us proud to be an American. There are NO republicans who have all, and perhaps not any, of those qualities so maybe you should just leave your
hateful speech inside your hateful heart.

Let me get this straight: Obama's short Presidency is something that a Republican thinks is "unsuccessful" and will lead to him be outed in 2012..........?? Then keep up the good work President Obama. The Republicans wouldn't know what diplomacy looks like, they don't understand what looking out for the middle class looks like and they really don't know what family values look like. The American Public is tired to death of people who are for nothing but money and power. There is not one person who is a Republican hopeful for 2012 that has shown that they stand for nothing but the rich, the status quo, and their ego.....including you Mr. Crist. Obama has set the economy on the right track, he has put us back into a place of power and honor on the World stage, and he is backing the middle class. During my lifetime I have NEVER seen a Republican be able to do all three of those things........especially during the 1st nine months of their Presidency. Even the Republicans Sainted President Reagan was not able to do all three..........as a matter of fact HE is the reason the economy is the way it is today and he is the reason the middle class is shrinking away to nothing.........Can any one say Trickle Down Economics??? As we all know Trickle Down never happened and it never will. Your party is trapped in the 70's and the only good thing that came from the 70's is the music.

Hmmm.....   September 26th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

could be..maybe...maybe not. Depends if he holds to his own ideology or does what he was elected to do.

JM   September 26th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

The Republicans are grasping at straws once again. They have NO candidates worth a bucket of warm spit......NONE. Obama has been POTUS for less than ONE YEAR!! Keep grasping at straws you Republican losers. I'm a registered NON PARTISAN and see NO REPUBLICANS worth anything. I haven't forgotten BUSH's 8 years of failure that nearly killed this country. I will never FORGET!!

Anand   September 26th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

Does not matter. By the end of the first term, Obama would have accomplished more than 8 years of Bush. He would have reversed the plundering and closed the budget gap, brought the economy under control, restored respect of US on the world stage, fix the broken back of the middle class (who have been hit again and again relentlessly in the past eight years) and they will stand straight again, restored health of the financial system, make available basic healthcare to masses, instill vitality of the education system, on and on. You can count on more things than this list at the end of his first term. Sure, Republicans manage to brainwash part of the American public with their degraded and low level tactics, but majority of the American public perhaps would realize they are humble and decent and they don't need that kind of indoctrination. If they stoop even lower and try to manipulate the results and somehow win (like Bush), by that time middle class would have regained strenght to stand on their own and does not matter who the president is. Keep working on presidency to fail and country to fail. Thank you Republicans.

Randy   September 26th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

The remarks by Gov Crist is not surprising coming from a conservative Republican. When I voted for President Obama I did so looking for change and thus far I feel he has pressed to produce just that. But with change comes great resistance and he has and will continue to face just that. If he did not press for reform and change I would regret my vote. The type of change he has presented is exactly what is needed. I think the republican right wing wants anything that makes President Obama look like a failure. Even pushing against all policies that produce change that our country desparately needs. They have solidified a very negative posturing that has completely turned me off from the republican party. Let's not forget it was a republican President that created the financial crisis we now face within 8 years and caused our world view to become greatly compromised. I don't understand how so many can say that Obama's term thus far (less than one year) is some how worse than what we just came from. The mess wasn't created in a year how can we expect it to be resolved in a year. While they (many of the republicans) say they represent the interest of america I say the represent the interest of their own party.

More psycho-babble from a conservative nut. The minority is very vocal, but that's all they have for now. With good fortune, that's all they'll ever have. America rejected conservatism when enough people realized that its core philosophies are built on a foundation of greed, hate, and twisted perversions of Christian beliefs. The more people that come to this realization, the better we'll all be as a nation and the safer we'll all be as a global community.

Cheap poltical campaigning aimed at the most ignorant in society. THey thing that because they can say anything and some will fall for it, that somehow changes reality. They started this nonsense BEFORE he even took office. The GOP claimed Bush did a good job, There where WMD's in Iraq, Iraq played a part in 9/11, Exposing a cia agent was not poltical, Politicizeing the justice department was ok, warentless wiretaps where a good idea, deregulating banks was a good idea, torture was not a warcrime, etc etc etc.... They have been wrong more than any potilcal group, at any time in our nations history. Still some where stupid enough to beleive then, and some will be stupid enough to fall for this too. They are banking on the stupidity of the country. Beleive in AMerican, this garbage potlical dishohesty is not working anymore.

djb   September 26th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

I, for one, am very happy with the "change" that I have seen with this new administration. I am very pleased that President Obama is doing a great job cleaning up the mess that he inherited from eight years of "cowboy politics". So, don't speak too soon, Governor Crist, of the "no" party that I am a registered member but "no" longer speaks for me. How did you expect President Obama to get everything done in nine months? It took us eight years to spend the surplus left the Republicans in 2001 on an unnecessary war, to wreck our economy and to ruin our reputation world wide.

brian   September 26th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

It's convenient that he leaves out the last 8 years that we wanted change from. Does anyone dare take a chance on another republican after Bush ran us in the ditch with full support from his party? I will never trust anything any republican ever says again – they had their 8 years and it was a complete disaster.

Reggie   September 26th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

Sean   September 26th, 2009 5:05 pm ET

Remember Bill Clinton was attacked by the GOP? Remember they predicted that he'd lost like Jimmy Carter? Stop listening of all these stupid predictions... get back to work, politicians!

Mickey, New York   September 26th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

Well of course he predicts this for Obama...Crist wouldn't be advocating the new Republican mantra of "The Party Of No" if he wished anything different.

Just as my pappy used to say... "You can dress up a turd in a three-piece suit, but at the end of the day, it still smells like a turd".

The Republican Party: The 21st century's turds...

Concerned   September 26th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

Sure enough people wants change. The question remain, do they want a change that reflects the Bush years? Do they really want a change to more of the same failed policies that led us to the brink of economic desaster?
I know change went I see it but with the way things are going; I prefer to go with the current changes than what was available for eight long Bush years.

It seems most people have a short attention span and very short memory. Failed policies and wanton disregard for human dignity plus the mentality that states; it's better to upfilt the few than to uplift the many.

JonDie   September 26th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

"Crist...said Republicans feel a winning streak coming on for the next few years "

Yes, Mr. Crist, let's return to 2001 to 2009, when your banker friends stole everything on Wall Street that wasn't tied down, when 50,000 US soldiers were killed or wounded so that Republican corporate friends could steal billions from the Treasury, and when Republican policies almost caused a Great Depression.

Unfortunately, about half the US population is actually stupid enough to think that the Bush years were the "good, old days."

president Obama is trying to make some very tough changes, that will be a lot better for the middle class american people, but not too good for the small percent of the wealthiest. things will not be so bad for them, they will still be very rich,, but they dont want to give up even one penny, they want it all, even if it is leaving more and more middle class homeless, no health care, because they cant afford to pay what the insurance doesnt pay, if they even have insurance. i like him, i voted for him, i trust him, no matter what you rich whites try to start about him. i am a WHITE 63 year old, who knows i will get good medicare, when it is time for me to get it.i dont understand why some of you seem to hate him, i wonder if JESUS was there, what would you do? because he is the one who is showing love for his fellow men and women, some of you are just showing how selfish you are.

Well, if Charlie Crist says that Republicans feel a winning streak coming on for the next few years, "so bad they can taste it," and predicts a Carter-esque loss for Obama, then I suppose there's nothing left for us Democrats to do than surrender to the incompetent leadership of the confused Republican Party...

WHAT?!?!

Crist needs to get his political gauge fixed.

The so-called leaders of the Republican Party are reeling from recent defeats and are scrambling to feed their followers anything that might trick them into believing that these so-called leaders can actually offer a single solution to our country's big problems.

They're even inventing phony controversies in order to deflect attention away from their lack of ideas and, indeed, from the very reality of our country's big problems, which need to be addressed by real leaders.

We Democrats know very well that this is our time to set the country back on course after yet another Republican administration has steered us wrong.

And this time we're going to do what should have been done over 40 years ago, and the Republicans are shaking because they know that they're wrong and CAN'T STOP REAL REFORMS.

Adalbert   September 26th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet." Those seven, eight or nine months President Obama's been seated in the oval office has shown every indication of change, “Rome was not built in a day; its landscaping came after as well.” It's so easy to compare history’s past, again too what's been less then a full-year with the newest administrations efforts; don’t forget the disaster which was inherited upon entering. It’s even easier to toss stones, while not having even a soap box to stand on; while doing so. "Let the Man, The President and our Chief do his job, the more The Republican (copied) speech’s condemns President Obama’s efforts and accomplishments over and over again; the more hypocritical the Republican Party is set in stone. It became laughable to take seriously Florida Gov. Charlie Crist whom should find a newer and more present script to read from; knowing the past is the past; while President Obama promised and is directed his efforts forward towards, “Our,” futures. ... Take a seat Gov. your speech is nothing new, it's as old as you frankly; speaking!

Maybe if you Republicans would think of your country first and stop sabotaging the legally elected President just to score political points, Mr Obama might actually get some things accomplished that would be good for the people of this country.

But the Republicans only care about themselves and getting re-elected. They couldn't care less if the electorate starves to death!

Gee! surprise, surprise! what else would one expect to hear from a republican? Personaly I think he will be a two term president followed by another democrat possible Hilary Clinton. We the people are not over George W Bush's reign of terror yet and want be for a long long time.

Mike in Los Angeles   September 26th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Who could possibly take this comment seriously? President Obama hasn't even been in office a full year yet, and Crist already thinks he knows how the next three years and four months of his term are going to turn out? Calling this man delusional would be a vast understatement, but then the entire GOP seems to be rather delusional these days. The damage that Nixon and company did to the United States was mild compared to the damage that the GOP inflicted on us over the last eight years, and it's going to take America a lot longer than three years to recover from it enough to put another republican in the Oval Office. That the people of Florida actually elected this man to represent them in any capacity doesn't say much for the people of Florida.

Dave C - NJ   September 26th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Sorry...the people voted. Just because the GOP is screaming their heads off and the losers are whining doesn't mean they have the votes.

We all know what the republicans are. No thanks.

Gpenn   September 26th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Charlie, Florida doesn't want you. You went back on every single campaign promise. We will be happy to have you out of Tallahassee and I hope you won't be going to DC.

stan   September 26th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

The gop still dont get it,this is not the 80s when the white vote was 90%,the gop is going to have to find a very strong canidate to defeat obama because that canidate is going to have to get 65% of the white vote to even squeak by obama,am afraid the gop is going to be very shocked when they see the democrats still in power for yrs in yrs to come because of the rise of the minority vote, like i said before i just dont see a path to power for the gop in the future because the demographics is so much different then it was back before 1990,when is the gop going to wakeup in smell the coffee.

Ken, Arizona   September 26th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Wishful thinking. Yes, America does want change, but not back to what the Republicans have to offer. They are devoid of any ideas.

Sorry Gov. Crist but there just isn't enough Hillbillies to GET IT DONE!!!

mike   September 26th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Charlie is right.... there is going to be a BIG CHANGE in 2010, and 2012...

Andrew   September 26th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

First of all, the fact that a Republican politician predicts Obama will lose in 3 years is hardly news. Second, I'll consider it when I see ANYONE on that side of the aisle that has any kind electability.

On a side note, this Crist guy looks like the aged former beauty queen at the end of "A League of their Own" when they reunite and sing that song and she says she married a plastic surgeon. Not saying that will help him or hurt him, just saying. A lot of people really liked that movie...So that might be an angle he can work.

Jimmy Obama   September 26th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

2012 cannot get here fast enough. I'm sick of Obama already, and sickened by his far left aspirations.

Marty, Grand Rapids MI   September 26th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Keep dreaming. The GOP lacks a credible threat and if the economy turns around or stays 'ok', Obama won't lose. Dems may lose ground in Congress but lets wait and see. I know the GOP would love to brand Obama as a Carter, even though I think he gets a worse wrap then he deserves (and Reagan gets too much praise). If the country had followed Carter into reducing our dependency on oil, we may never have known many of the issues we have had over the last 10 years. Oil dominates our foreign policy (forcing our hand into war) and transfers our well to other places in the world.

I am Newt's ex wife   September 26th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Not so fast dummy. .......do you really think that the vast MAJORITY of people have forgotten what the GOP and Bush has done to this country??

That is an insult to any "average" American.

You let an idiot run loose for 8 yrs and you want to come down on a guy who has been in office less than a year.

What crap the GOP has kept coming up with........

NY Music Prof   September 26th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Glenn, Cary, NC   September 26th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Crist might just be right... as long as
1) This latest Republican economic debacle is still crippling our economy in 2012 like the Nixon economy was hurting people in 1980, and
2) A Democrat as powerful today as Ted Kennedy was in 1980 decides to run against Obama for the nomination, and
3) An attractive, moderate Republican decides to mount a serious third-party campaign as an independent (like John Anderson did in 1980) thus cutting into Obamas numbers among moderate conservatives, and
4) The media in general turns against Obama like they did against Carter, AND
5) American voters go collectively insane again.

John   September 26th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

The GOP is contiuing it's all out attack on President Obama, by predicting the future, when as little as 1 or 2 years ago, they couldn't see the present.

This Party of No, offers nothing. No policies. No vision. No plan. No alternatives. Just NO. All they have is NO.

President Obama is going to continue to provide this country with what he promised, during the election. In the short time he has been in office, this administration has taken great strides into moving this country forward, improving the economic situation, left by the previous GOP Administration, improving the USA's standing in the world, created by 8 years of GOP NeoCon policies, and improving conditions for the middle class, after 20+ years of worsening conditions, created by the GOP's trickle down economic policy.

Time will tell.

brian   September 26th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

What a weak analogy. By that logic I can say every time a Bush serves as President, a Democrat goes two terms. Happened with Bush 1 and Clinton, it will happen with Bush 2 and Obama.

Andrew   September 26th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

*Yawn* Mr. Crist is as irrelevant as his party

Rita OHIO   September 26th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

The reason so many people have stopped following the GOP is because they always talk about winning or losing. They are incapable of constructing a plan and executing it. It's always win or lose. How about accomplishing something for a change? Let's see...can we start with containing the ever increasing cost of health care in this country?? The GOP promised us a plan 100 days ago and I have not heard a construction plan presented......tax cuts, mandatory coverage, tort reform ?? Is this all they got?

It's time for us to get serious and figure out how to lower the overall cost of health care for OUR country.

ronald   September 26th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

If the current President gets a health care reform law passed and it is
a viable law that actually HELPS Americans obtain and keep health
care insurance at a reasonable cost, the GOP will be out of luck for
decades. The GOP is pushing in ALL THEIR CHIPS with their "party of
NO" strategy of blocking health care reform at all costs.
This move, when combined with all the OTHER CIRCUS ACTS("you
lie"..."where is your birth certificate"..."he's really a communist son of
Islam"...AND WORSE) only serves to turn off real thinking people that
they NEED to reach.
This includes me(being a registered Independent)....but they are so lame and idealless, it's just not working>

Scott   September 26th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Gov. Crist is really out of touch...the American people want leaders who focus on working together to solve the problems facing this country...not those whose main focus is playing politics.

Adrian Ogle   September 26th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

No one asked you Governor Crist. The American people are selfish and impatient – they only look for self gratification when it comes to real change. When it's not done exactly right, they cry foul every time like brats. I'm quite tired of hearing people harp on President Obama – he has A LOT on his table, cut the guy a break, sheesh. Everyone is just looking out for, guess what, THEMSELVES.

I'm so sorry that you all are looking for someone to blame for the mess left by the Bush Administration – can someone from the Republican Party please take some responsibility for once? I have the utmost faith in Obama's ability to be re-elected in four years and at the moment he has my vote for a second term. Speaking of which, the Republicans need to step their game up if they really believe they'll have an actual electable official by the time 2012 rolls around. And no Sarah Palins' either, please and thank you.

carrie   September 26th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

What an idiot...OK crist thanks for the prediction. you might have trouble getiing anywhere however, since you happily took the stimulus money form the bill that was passed...isn't that a no-no in the Republican party,...republicans have a very skewed view of history...Regan introduced Czars back in 1980, and GW Bush had 40 czars, but Obama has Czars and he is a communist...the GOP takes advantage of the ignorance of people all the time, if that is the way they think they will get votes, that is sad...Also...Crist doesn't mention who will beat Obama in 3 years...that is question...the GOP keeps coming up with worse candidate than the last...

G. Roberts NYC   September 26th, 2009 4:46 pm ET

He's so right, I mean after seeing our president trying to make progress on nearly every major issue, Americans are probably ready for going back to shirking stem cell research, firing up the torture chambers, putting those alternative lifestyle folks back in their place and burning up as much oil as possible to line the pockets of cronies.
Maybe even toss in some pre-emptive strikes here and there...

The world is changing. The republicans are out of touch and devoid of anything positive to add to the mix. The only thing they have been capable of is having staged "tea parties" to showcase their racist imagery and their poor spelling.

Need a perfect example? How about the young man in St. Luis who was protesting gov't healthcare and was badly injured and had to ask people at the gathering for donations because HE HAD NO HEALTH COVERAGE. It's like a scene from the movie "Idiocracy".

Crist as a objective analyst? I am against run-away big government as much as anyone but when having to choose between big government and accepting government being focused on benefiting only Special Interests and a select few, history has clearly shown that the majority (95+%) loose far more when the focus is on benefiting the few. When the voters become deceptively led by appeals to their biases, the scare tactics aimed at their prejudices and / or the subterfuge designed to excite their emotions, with the result being that they then choose to support placating and patronizing the interests of the influential, powerful and wealthy few, then the majority looses big time (reference 2000 – 2008). Currently we actually need some liberal efforts to regain balance after the drastic abuses that have allowed financial disaster with excessive deregulation, crumbling infrastructure with irresponsible neglect, unchecked Global Warming with the dishonest favoring of business interests, lost jobs and taxes with the concentration on what big businesses want, degraded quality of education and on and on always with the total focus having been on placating and patronizing the few. Even taxes are relative as those struggling to get ahead, are out of work or are worried about loosing their jobs will attest; again only the few who control the big money would object to a modest tax increase in a resulting strong economy. It isn’t pure and simple nor is it without imperfections (needing fine tuning*) but it is really an easy decision when one can be truly objective and rational, refusing to be manipulated like sheep, and just determine where the quality and gain is and also recognizing when apathy, the costs and the abundance of subterfuge is all that is intended to be given to the majority. It really is a ‘no brainier’ after putting aside the biases, prejudices and emotions used to manipulate and then avoiding self-inflected negatives incurred when falling prey to the manipulation.
* – When programs are fined tuned with responsible bipartisanship they benefit everyone; when they are killed with self-serving obstructionism they benefit only the few.

Jose   September 26th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Crist, so you think Obama's change is wrong? Exactly what good have you done for Florida except stay in the closet, spend our money and pass laws that do very little to help the average person – oh wait, I forgot your biggest accomplishment yet and that's wasting all this time and money running for the Senate instead of doing your job! I guess, with all these things, you must know what you're talking about when it comes to change. Honestly... I can't believe I supported you. Why do I keep saying that about republicans.

Cystem Phailure   September 26th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

I wish the GOP would try to go on a winning streak of good ideas. How many decades has it been now since their last one?

Deidra Jones   September 26th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

I am from Florida and I disagree with the comments of our Governor regarding President Barack Obama. I feel the American people wanted change and the things that the president are doing are good for this country. In the 8 months the president has been in office is had worked to help home owners. He has worked to reform health care and he has worked to address the credit crisis as well as spark the economy with the cash for clunkers program. Also, the presidsent approval numbers are still high. Higher than President Bush's number after serving 8 months in office. The republican part and former President George W. Bush go this country in the situation it is in and it will not get corrected over night. The governor is wrong and only wants to position himself for political advancement. If he really wanted to serve the people, he would have continued his work as governor of Florida.

tisgoogle   September 26th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

Gop's give your mouths a break! President Obama is getting us out of the
mess your party of BUSH/CHENY got us into! Your all BIG LOSERS! You
all look and sound like the JOKER!

Rabi Jay   September 26th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

This is probably the best shot the Republicans have to criticize President Obama. Because they know after a few more months, the economy will be doing great and the health care would have been passed, and they will have no more strong reasons to talk about.

Robin   September 26th, 2009 4:39 pm ET

Agreed. Four and the door.

However, he he ushers in another Reagan, I don't think any of us will complain about 96 months of economic growth.

Vyker   September 26th, 2009 4:39 pm ET

Yep...I am going to vote stright Republican this time. I have grown up a bit to.

Funny....one republican commits adultry...they are all bad "according to liberal's"

However...the 4...5...or 6 ACORN office's aren't representative of ALL Acorn Offices. Me thinks the IRS should audit those income tax's prepared by ACORN.

Mike   September 26th, 2009 4:39 pm ET

I guess the governor failed to observe that the federal deficit hit the $10 trillion dollar mark in Oct 2008… before the 2008 elections… before "Dems" and the President even boarded this sinking ship which is the current American Economy.

If we're supposed to forget that and fall for this show their putting on... I guess that they take us for idiots.

A Republican President, Republican majority in the House of Representatives and Republican majority in the Senate completely failed us. Please forgive my skepticism when I hear Republicans claim to be the party of (fiscal/moral) responsibility.

And they're coming back? Oh boy... can't wait.

Oliver T   September 26th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

What has become evident is that Republicans have vowed to thwart any initiatives the Obama administration comes up with. They have their eyes fixed on the next election – not the day to day running of the country for the better good. I hope that Americans don't fall for this trick but I have a feeling that one may be asking too much of the American electorate – humans generally forget the lessons of history and are bound to repeat the same mistakes. Governor Crist may be right. I hope he is wrong.

Ilene   September 26th, 2009 4:36 pm ET

These Republicans are so very hopeful that Obama will fail. No one could possibly fail as much as the Republicans' Georgie Bush. It's going to take years and years to fix the damage he did to our nation.

NVa Native   September 26th, 2009 4:36 pm ET

Crist & Cantor – typical – no ideas, just no .... blah blah blah.
Nine months into Obama's first term and these goof balls and their goon squads are doing everything they can to make our President fail. How un-Patriotic of them. All they care about is regaining political power. SLEAZY!

Craig   September 26th, 2009 4:36 pm ET

Charlie Crist is an idiot. He has no concept of reality.

Charles   September 26th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

Gov. Charlie Crist is spot on about Obama. President Obama is inspiring and well-meaning and it helped him in winning the election, but it is very clear now that he lacks political skill to get things done. I do not think that he is WEAK, but he seems naive enough to believe that just being on the right side of a moral issue is enough to get it all done.

Larry   September 26th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

Your a dreamer Crist

The people of this country are a whole lot smarter than the PARTY OF NO gives them credit for

We are no longer going to sit back while people like you and George W. drive our country into the ground

I can't wait until 2010 and 2012, just to watch more of your racist, do nothing for the country or it's people, buddies get thrown out of office

WE THE PEOPLE have just begun to speak

But dream all you want ...

The MAJORITY back Obama and HRC...we elected him.   September 26th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

Wishful thinking, Crist. The GOP wants Obama to FAIL so bad " they can taste it". They want him to be Carter-esque, which will never happen. If i remember correctly, the GOP smelled victories in 2006 and 2008 and what happened? Obama still has a very high approval rating, the economy IS getting better, and health care reform will get done, with or without the GOP. Let's hear what Crist has to say when in 2010 the GOP is still in minority in the House and Senate and make no gains in either.

Rosie   September 26th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

Let me look into my crystal ball, and I think I see a loss for the republicans for the next 20 years after the democrats pass health care reform. The republicans will look like the party of no that they are.

Curt   September 26th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Oh, my god. I can't believe that a republican politician thinks Obama will loose. I guess the republican speaks from personal experiance.
Personally I think the sky is going to change colors soon. We will be entering the green era. I think this because it has been blue for so long.

jay   September 26th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

As long as the Republican party remains a party of anger and belligerence, and extremist leaders that lack intellect, they don't stand a chance in 2012, Gov Crist's pipe dream suggests that there is more than tobacco in his pipe. Republican extremists of the ilk of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, and others risk the fate of other Republican extremists such as Michael Savage, Stephen Black, Fred Phelps who are banned from entering Britain. Extremism is the norm for Republicans, as media evidence on the health care debate shows. Republicans by abstaining from rejecting the extremist's solutions, effectively encourage them and embrace them.

trueblue   September 26th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Doesn't he wish; what a bunch a know-nothing losers the Republicans are. After the leadership President Obama has shown at home and on the world stage, the Republicans will be lucky to be a third party.

Emily   September 26th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

Is this guy crazy? Has he seen the GOP's polling numbers? Why is the MSM trying to constantly undermine our President, rather than reporting the facts? Disgusting.

cate   September 26th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

You have got to be kidding me!!!! I guess they keep on saying this so that they'll come to believe it! (hmmm, sounds much like the Evangelicals lies!!)....The Republicans know that they are in trouble, esp., when healthcare reform passes, yet they continue to delude themselves...I live in FL now and I must say that I have not heard one person say anything positive about Crist!

Chris Bulow   September 26th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

So, Mr Perma Tan "but never around to do any work or make ANY decisions that might make people think about what I do (or actually DON'T do)" is the KEYNOTE speaker? Boy, his party has a problem if that's the best they can come up with. Keep on going Charlie. You're an asset. But not to the GOP.

jpetz   September 26th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

This is wishful thinking on Crist's part. Obama has been in office for a mere 8mo so predictions of a one-termer are ludicrous. As its been said often in politics, 6mo is a lifetime so 3 more years must be 6 of them.

Ah yes, because we can truly judge a term on the first eight months of fixing the failures of the last decade. Of course, the republicans have to say this, because they know if the economy has indeed recovered somewhat by 2012, Obama will knock them out...again. And he must be forgetting that a) Reagan was not so popular at first and b) Reagan was the king of running up the debt.

Stu-Florida   September 26th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

President Obama is a shrewed politician. And I don't think anyone wants republicans back anytime soon. They tend to ruin our country in a devastating way.

President Obama will do just fine. Just because you set up there and talk nosence. No one is listening. Things are starting to get better no matter how hard the repubs try against it.

DvIRGINIA   September 26th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

I don't agree with Gov. Crist for this reason; We Americans have a different mind-set regarding war than in the Carter Presidency. After the Republicans placed us in Iraq for this unwarranted war we have learned that war is not the only way to deal with other countries. Perhaps if the Bush administration were not in such a hurry to leave Afghanistan and go to Iraq with what we now know was a lie about WMD's–we would not have the problems that we face now in Afghanistan. And Gov. Crist, just what do you propose we do, about anything. Just saying no to anything Obama proposes is the cowardly, unintelligent way of handling all of our problems that the Bush administration has handed us. The youth of today are educated and think things through before making all decisions. The end of the "Old White Men's Club" is coming and thank goodness. I put my trust in the new generation of educated, intelligent young people and feel they will do much better for America than the old angry men have done in the past. Hey conservatives, get in touch with your feminine side because the women will out-rank the men in the very near future.

susanmh   September 26th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Why don't republicans and liberitarians start helping instead of being snide and critical. They are coming off like they hate Obama so much that they want America and Americans to suffer. They never have solutions, they never offer compromises, they got nothing just the same old rhetoric.
Either help the USA or leave it!

John Smith   September 26th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I'm not certain what the Republicans are tasting is victory. How about bile? Negativity and constant criticism is not a platform, it's a sickness. How about another Richard Nixon Mr. Christ? The paranoia is certainly there in your neo-cons. The people did take care of business, they voted your party put!

Good old Charlie "tell them anything they want to hear" then do what the developers and bankers tell you what to do. This is the same guy that said he was an environmentalist, then completely gutted Florida's growth regulations, destroyed Florida's land acquisition program, and set the stage for mining north Florida's rivers to fund the growth of OrlandoTamapMiamiFtLauderdale. Good old smilin' Charlie, the snake oil salesmen. All I can say is, hold onto your wallet and kiss the environment and education good bye. But he likes casinos! Why should anyone think this man has something useful to say?

Tired   September 26th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Would be really nice if someone could root for our country to do well rather than wish we would crash and burn for their own political future. I have heard nothing since November except "the next election". Good grief we just had one. Isn't there anyone who hopes and prays that whomever our leaders are the country does well and the people prosper? Evidently not. Just let everything negative happen and if it doesn't say it did anyway....just so I can get elected.
I guess it is part of the me-me generation. The Bible says envy and greed are the root of evil and I am now sure that is true.

Talk about wishful thinking...What GOP candidate for 2012 wouldn't give you this headline????

SF Serg   September 26th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Should we be surprised that this is coming from a Republican Governor? More surprised that it's coming from Republican Governor running for Senator?

Jim H, Glendale, CA   September 26th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

And we should be surprised what this man with the perfect tan says? In what way is news. "Republican predicts big win for the GOP!" I predict they might gain a few seats, but lose others. 1994 is not going to happen, because they've lost their credibility.

Truth time   September 26th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Oh gee Governor!

You mean that the fella who loves his country enough to get in there and do the dirty work might be unpopular for a little while!!!!!

Well hell then Gub! lets do like the predecessor Republican !!!!!

NATHAN WIMBERLY   September 26th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

If by "we" he means the wingnut party, he is delusional like Beck,Limbaugh,Cantor and the rest. They are being exposed daily just like last year. Their minority party doesn't have the votes to stop anything as last Nov showed.

Mike In Kansas   September 26th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

I don't think the voting public of the US are the same as those that voted in 1980. But since mr. Crist wants to get into a time machine lets quote a few numbers here. In 1980 less than half of the eligible voters were even registered to vote. Less than one-third of that number bothered to vote. Which mean that great landslide of 1980 that republicans like to claim, was created by one-sixth of the country. And we all know what a wonderfull job mr. reagan did to the economy. We are still paying for his corruption 30 years later. Now the same stone walling that existed in the Great and Splendid Presidency of Jimmy Carter is being attempted by the republicans today. Wont work this time guys. The voting public is way to smart this time. You will see in 2010 when Phase III of the republican blood bath takes place.

Ryan, Council Bluffs   September 26th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

If Obama continues the way it looks. Gitmo reversal, mixed bag on economy (and the recession is not done yet if the latest Treasury report on home foreclosures is accurate), health care contradictions. I can see a democratic challenger...Hillary seems to be getting little respect by the admin. Her appointment was a keep your enemies closer move. Unpopular with the media and WH, but well put Crist.

paul   September 26th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

well mMR CRIST is hardly gonna turn upto a republican event and say obamas gonna win another massive landslide is he . hes got to say that at a republican event . ill make a prediction so far has MR CRISTS party moved to the looney tune right the they have no chance of makeing any inroads at the midterm elections in 2010 . onlt 20% identify as gop any more . charlie boy you need to ask ya self why . and were were you an ya gop fiscal coservitives when bush was spending like a drunken sailor not one word from them . they think its ok to bankrupt the nation for war , but we cant possibly aford health care for all . PS CHARLIE KEEP WONDERING WHY YOUR PARTY IS IN A POLITICAL ICE AGE . the answer is obvious you lot are to blind to see it .

Rob   September 26th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

I agree with the governor totally. The extreme liberal side of the democratic party has taken the reins from Obama and is ramming ahead their agenda, which a majority of Americans have and will continue to reject. The 2010 mid-term elections are going to give the democratic party whiplash, that's how severe this correction is going to be. It isn't a question anymore of stopping Obama. It's a question of removing Pelosi and her ultra liberal agenda from power. Who knows, that correction may allow Obama to govern from the center ... which is the only place a first term president can govern from and get elected to a second term. As it stands now, Obama is being dictated to by Pelosi and those who strongly favor her ultra liberal brand of politics. He's got to have a Speaker and a Senate Majority Leader who are more centrist, and he doesn't have that now.

sensible Cape Coral FL   September 26th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

President Obama has got to be given credit for trying to change the lives of our citizens for the better. To what extent is the Republican Party prepared to take its share of blame for the delay in his plans?
True of all Republicans: Take credit for everything and blame for nothing.

The Wall   September 26th, 2009 4:09 pm ET

Why is it,the other side brings something out of the past. The war in Iraq was supposed to be as glorious a use of our brave fighting men and women as liberating Europe in WWII.
We are at a point in time when both sides need to work together and stop pandering to their base. They are leaders and should behave so.

Obama is possibly the most powerful President in history.... No other President has got farther with health care ever. The Repubs THINK they are making a comeback but Obama still has his massive base to go to...
Some may not agree with the Dems in Washington on ONE issue right now, but I don't think that will translate into votes for the same group of guys that got us into this mess in the first place.... The Republicans...

In your dreams, Crist. In your dreams! 4 years from now you Repubs are going to have no idea what hit you.

Michael Sheridan, Grand Rapids   September 26th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Wishful thinking and "preaching to the choir" aren't going to make things any easier for a GOP whose Congressional delegation is consistently polling at about a 20 percent approval rating. That's about 20 points behind their Democratic counterparts, and 30 or more points behind Pres. Obama.

Nobody wants the GOP back in charge – if you aren't willing to accept that, and figure out why (hint: it isn't because you aren't conservative enough), then you're welcome to your time in the wilderness.

Nobama   September 26th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

I agree, but will it be too late by then to recover from the devastation the Affirmative Action President brought upon this once great nation? That is what happens when affirmative action is allowed in the work place, unqualified people are thrust into positions they are incapable of handling and the result is remarkable failure.

lee   September 26th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

It is not about winning or losing political seats – its about providing for the people!! Obama is doing just fine with what he had to work with no way we are going back to the way it was.

Army Brat   September 26th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

So you're confirming the Republicans will continue to be the party of no and will continue to do everything OTHER than work with the President.

Thank you for heads up..

marty   September 26th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

There has been a "change", a welcome change with President Obama. Either Gov Crist can't recognize it or he simply doesn't want to admit it. We are beginning to have much better relations with other countries; a decent and efficient health care plan is being developed and the biggest obstacle to all other attempted improvements is the 'party of NO', the Republicans in Congress who would never...never give credit nor assistance to this administration. When Gov Crist publicly admits that his wonderful Ronald Reagan passed the biggest tax bill in history; when Mr. Crist acknowledges that the beginning of the demise of the middle class began with the Reagan administration plus other activities not necessarily to the benefit of the middle class, only then will his words hold any credence. This is not the time for the silliness and ugliness of political power plays.

john   September 26th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

Wishful thinking. I predict the opposite. "Teabaggging" and "right wing terrorist" boorish behaviour will lead to even more backlash than in the last election. GOP needs to wake up.

SC Observer   September 26th, 2009 4:05 pm ET

I tend to agree that Obama may be a single term Pres. It seems nothing
he's promised has materialized. One thing after another, from "stopping the war – was it in 6 months???, then Health Care, Now it's Guantanimo.....
And how many things in between!

linda crawford   September 26th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

Old shake and bake Crist is irrelevant. Another Limbaugh lapdog.

Saxo Grammaticus   September 26th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

"It may happen again," Crist went on.

Does anyone remember any president who had so many so eager for him to fail as Obama? Yet this is so cynically calculated: GOPers are poised to say "I told you so" if Obama does fail, but they get to go along for the ride when Obama succeeds.

Yaya   September 26th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

Larry   September 26th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

Michele   September 26th, 2009 3:59 pm ET

"America is waking up?" You mean, after sleeping through the Bush ruination of the economy, the housing market, the banks, industry, the military, our Constitutional rights, torture? One would hope that America has awakened from that nightmare! I think Crist is saying the politically expedient things to their base, but I disagree that a huge change will happen next year. Obama has not hurt this country. Look what is happening. Iran's nuclear facilities have been brought forward, and they are allowing the UN to inspect them. McCain would have bombed first, and asked questions after he spent another billion or so. The auto industry is slowly coming back. Health care for all Americans will happen. If Crist and other Republicans truly think that Americans in general are unhappy with these events, they are very wrong. Americans want peace, they want health care, and they want their jobs back. Republicans can deliver none of those things, or don't you think they would have during their two decades in power? Besides which, just who does he see filling Reagan's shoes today? Palin? Or the thrice married Gingrich?

GoHillary16!   September 26th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

Sounds just like what they were saying early in President Bill Clinton's first term. Right before: A. The beginning of the most productive period in American history, and B. His landslide reelection.

Kim Stone   September 26th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

It's time to abolish the Republican party!

Ohio Citizen   September 26th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

One thing Republicans continue to overlook in these assessments is the Republican record over the past 8 years. One of the primary reasons the Obama administration has struggled is the mess inherited. At this stage of the Obama administration it is much too easy to jump to a conclusion that is born of wishful thinking.

Obama is no Carter. He does not try and micro-manage every little thing to the point of paralysis. The economy is much more likely to be in better shape than it was when Obama came into office, and there is no Reagan waiting in the wings of the Republican party.

The GOP should have some wins in the mid-terms as is usually the case, but they have behaved in ways that are not conducive to coalition building. Even with the struggles the Democrats have now, the Republicans offer nothing positive. The Republicans haven't earned another bite at the apple. They just wish for Democrats to fail enough to win by default. It's not going to happen, and the rude awakening that's on the horizon is just what the GOP needs to finally get them to toss the remnants of the nasty southern strategy that has become a liability.

jenn   September 26th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Wow, a Republican governor who has Senatorial ambitions–perhaps higher–opines that Obama might not get re-elected? Stop the presses!!

Why is silly political posturing considered news? OF COURSE Crist is going to say that. Duh.

once upon a horse   September 26th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

all the people who voted for change and expected it to happen in just NINE months were living in a dream world. The Dems predicted bad things for Reagan, trhe Repubs did the same for Clinton and we see what happened there. I just can't understand why so many people either don't want to give this man a chance or just hope he fails on all accounts. I just can't recall any other president who's entire term was decided on his first nine months in office. At least I'm sure he won't do what Sarah Palin did and just quit, something the GOP hopes he does. And the last I checked his approval ratings were still in the mid 50s and higher than both the GOP and Congress as a whole.

IndyVoter   September 26th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

You Wish Crist! Go ahead and try it, and see what happens. You will see a revolt the likes this country hasn't seen since the Civil War. Most Americans still favor President Obama. Just because some Americans are allowing themselves to be gripped with the false fear created by Republicans as it pertains to Health Care, doesn't mean that Americans as a whole don't see just how manipulative, selfish and incapable of governing the Republicans really are. See you at the polls!

I have caught Obama in dozens & dozens of outright lies,& deception, as never before in the history of crooked Politicians. Not sure if he's leading the ship, or if the strings are pulled by other people higher up...EITHER WAY. Dangerous& very creepy airs blowing in the winds of HIS "change" I DON'T LIKE IT ,, AT ALL.

Keep trying Mr. Crist   September 26th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Start up that campaign machine Mr. Crist. The truth however is that the American people are fully behind our President, and he is making the changes that we asked him and the congress to make, by voting them in as a majority. Our President is doing exactly what we asked him to do. His popularity is still very high and the polls show that the American people support all of the changes he is making, even surprisingly, a majority of Republicans support what he is doing.

It is the Republican leaders in congress who are not hearing what the American public is saying loud and clear. Make the changes, NOW.

I am a gov contractor and i know from 30 years experience that anything the gov runs is inefficient, corrupt, wasteful and run by people who cannot hold a job in the real world.

Kevin Tudish   September 26th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

The stink of George Bush and Dick Cheney is going to be a lingering reminder of the hateful, narrow, short-sighted politics of the Republican Party. I don't think Americans will vote that kind of incompetence back in any time soon.

And if McCain had been elected the economy would have drastically improved. Overnight. Unemployment would be in the single digits, and the American people would be one happy family. Spending right and left without a care in the world.

Reef2115   September 26th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

this is the problem, the people who are fired up are the same people who were fired up BEFORE the election. They DIDN'T and WEREN'T ever going to support Obama in ANYTHING he did.

The problem is the media isn't prefacing this information to the viewer when they show a 9/12 event, when they show an angry town hall meeting, or events such as these above. And it seems like Obama is LOOSING support when its the same opposition he had since January of 2008.

Roger in Minnesota   September 26th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

At some point the Republicans are going to have to offer something concrete to a wider range of voters. I still don't hear what that might look and feel like. If it sounds anything like the failed policies of the last 10-30 years, voters will continue to send them back to the drawing board. A guy from Florida speaking on Mackinac certainly doesn't fill the bill to a great many people in this country.

Brian   September 26th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

I love it, Mr. Politician himself predicting the future.

This guy probably will be elected to the senate seat, but what has he done for the state of Florida? I mean the big property tax amendment that he pushed that gave people who needed the tax break the least another huge tax break and those funds were utilized by local governments to fund social services, now services are ending across the state. I mean didn't you feel sorry for all those multiple property slum lords getting aditional homstead breaks for all their properties.

He is truly Mr. Lip-service.

I have a prediction, one day the truth will come out and the hypocrit will be revealed for exactly what and who he is, and I think we all know what that is.

Anyone who can live a lie and not be authentic and honest, how can you believe them, trust them, have faith in them, or vote for them.

It's not enough to oust Obama. He's just a symptom of what's gone
wrong politically in this country over the last 20 years. What's needed
is the new American spirit we see at the tea parties and town hall
meetings. A spirit of taking our country back. No more games in
Washington, like senators gaining their seats from Harry Reid's
wheeling and dealing instead of earning them the old-fashioned
way – - by winning elections. No more of congress abandoning its
oversight duties, like letting the home loan industry self-destruct.
No more leaving the direction of this country up to an anointed few,
like the Kennedys and ACORN. WE ARE THE CUSTODIANS OF
THE COUNTRY...not them. We must stop being apathetic and
looking for answers, like on Sunday news interview TV shows.
The fate of this nation is in our hands – - not theirs. Obama may
need them...but we don't. Let's get started works more than
Yes We Can.

Eascogal   September 26th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

Crist ain't going to get elected by following along with the "destructive" attitude saying, "I believe that the people have seen that they wanted a change but not this much. Not this kind, and not this way." Crist forgets how his state absorbs more "pork" after each hurricane and loves to receive but hates to GIVE BACK! This party is dead in the waters and the GOP just hate being DEAD FISH going upstream!

Anonymous   September 26th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

eolufemi   September 26th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

Well, to be honest if people were dumb enough to vote for Bush twice, I have no reason to believe they are smart enough to give President Obama a shot.

President Obama only won 48% of the white vote, and most of the conservative white block stayed home, while "minorities" came out in droves.

It remains to be seen whether President Obama can bring out the vote, while republicans keep fielding horrible candidates that only appeal to their base and offend everybody else.

Hopefully President Obama steps on the gas even more, enacting more change than these people are able to turn back the clock on if they get back the office.

Linda from Minnesota   September 26th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

I am one of many who will work hard to re-elect President Obama.

Aaron   September 26th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

I predict Crist just shot himself in the foot with his Senate aspirations and doesn't understand the mood of the country. You don't make predictions like this so early and double cross a popular president who's helping you out. Is he aware of Florida's economy and real estate problems? I predict he may never be a senator or a one term senator with this attitude.

The Real Issue   September 26th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

The Issue Americans need to know is the Obama Administration in 8 months has done more than the Republicans and Bush did in 8 years...
Bush Record..2 Wars/ Katrina Managerial Catastrophy/Poor World Opinion/ Cowboy Diplomacy/ $4.60 gas prices and Recession/Depression
Obama Record..Fewer troops in Iraq and a stabalization of the country/More troops in Afghanistan to suppress the Taliban...Handling catastrophies like California Fires/helping to reshape New Orleans/ putting skids on Banking Crises/Added Regulation and accountability to Banking and Auto Industries/Restored financial credibility to markets/ STOCK MARKET RECOVERY OVER 3000/ Promoted Successful Clunker Program that caused auto growth in sales/ Has received Billions of borrowed money from banks with 15% interest in some cases. OBAMA HAS WORKED TO IMPROVE BETTER WORLD RELATIONS.

Josh Henderson   September 26th, 2009 3:41 pm ET

Who is going to beat him Mr.Crist? Lets see:

Eric Cantor-Nope
Tim P.-Nope
Minority Leader Bohner-NOpe
Newt Gingrich-Nope

Unless Ronald Regan comes back from the dead, well you see where I am going with this. I voted republican my entire life other than, for Clinton and for Obama. In my eyes, for the challenges at hand, he is doing pretty good. He has done more in 9 months then Bush did in 2 terms.

marcus2   September 26th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Charlie Crist is nuts and he knows it. The Republicans screwed things up so badly there's no way they will get in power again anytime soon.

John   September 26th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I'm waiting for the Log Cabin Republicans to endorse Crist. He should embrace his homosexuality, rather than keep it in the closet. He's a popular politician in Florida and coming out would only help, not hurt. Alas, he's likely to scoop up a lady with children, a la Larry Craig and keep a "traditional family values" face on. Too bad. Such potential.

Ray   September 26th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

Yes, people wanted to change and Reagan brought the change that has driven our economy to virtual collapse. It is a simple model we call tricke down economics where you cut taxes and spend and send until you drive the country into bacnkruptcy. Congratulations to republicans. They really found the winning formula with reagan.

Diane   September 26th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

It's true that Nixon, a Republican, was a terrible crook, and that Bush, another Republican, was also a terrible crook, though in a different way.

And it's true that Democrats were voted in after these two fiasco administrations.

But the difference now is that the people are sick of Republican phony religious nonsense and Republican tendency to put corporate interests before the interests of ordinary people.

People did want change, and the change Obama is bringing is working out just fine, in spite of the relentless negative spin generated by Republicans and the corporate lobbyists who are desperate to hold on to their profits.

After Crist's early appearance with the President, I thought that he might be a different kind of republican, but I was wrong. He's a tool, just like all the rest – a prisoner to his keepers and their collective, insane and extreme ideology. Crist will win Mel Martinez's seat, but he does have greater ambitions. And when he tries to achieve that, he will be in for a McCain-like loss.

Steve in Denver   September 26th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

My money is on Obama. As the recession ends, health care passes, we're out of Iraq, we've made headway on Bush's Afgan nightmare, I'm betting Obama will have approval ratings in the 70% range.

I think most of the voters are realizing how flawed the neocon movement is. Provide nothing but lip service to the social conservatives as you wreck anything good coming from government. They were hoodwinked by the dispicable tactics of GWB and rove, and the lies and distortions of ACORN news, er Faux news and Limbaugh.

Hopefully, we realize how close to financial collapse the neocons brought us, and will some day hold the shrub accountable for the murder of 4000 US soldiers in the lie about Iraq, the 1000+ deaths that he could have prevented in New Orleans, and for crimes against humanity. Hopefully we will soon turn off the right wing nuts who think it is perfectly ok to commit war crimes, the very war crimes we prosecuted a short 60 years ago.

Hopefully, the Republicans will discard the flawed neocon movement and become a party consistent with Goldwater. Smaller, but competent government, morality, ethics. Until then, Charlie, you are in a losing party!

We Won Get Over It   September 26th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

Oh boy don't those republicans love to dream...THERE IS NO WAY IN HADES that this country would vote for a republican for president or congress after what they did to this country in the eight years they stole the two elections.

Some of the republican incumbants might retain their seats, but no new ones are going to get in. Another group are going to loose their seats. they won't even be able to run because new democratic candidates are going to beat them out...and that's the blue dogs pretending to be democrats when they are a bunch of low class republicans.

Yeah Crist but you took the stimulus money –what a hipocrite !!!!

gary   September 26th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

Are you kidding me? How is this worth a headline.A republican predicts that Obama will not win in 2012.Who would of ever thought that.CNN is so in the pocket of the gop.

Mark S.   September 26th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Keep on dreaming, Charlie.

S M R   September 26th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

We will prove you wrong on ELECTION DAY Gov Crist!!! THE GOP has no shot at ANYTHING in the near future, they can thank the ONE/TWO punch of BUSH/CHENEY

pcmicia   September 26th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I doubt it. Carter is not as cool as Obama. We will re-elect me. Thank you very much.

Proud American   September 26th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

This is the same Idiot who said Obama couldn't win Florida I better write this one down, it's not everyday some Idiot comes along with this kind of inside information..

minnie   September 26th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Hardly. The changes President Obama is bringing to the table are needed and wanted – even though some people don't want to admit it ... yet.

Bob   September 26th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Wishful thinking, but it ain't gonna happen. President Obama has started un-winding all the damage from W far faster than I had hoped he would. 3 more years of this and the country will be ready for another 4. Keep wishing repubs.

Joe   September 26th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

More pie in the sky dreaming instead of offering practical solutions. The Republicans strike again.

Alan   September 26th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Dream on, Chuck-o. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Go back through your words. Who was everyone ready for a change from when they ELECTED Carter? A REPUBLICAN who nearly destroyed our entire country.

Who did we want change from this time? Republicans, again, who this time came within a hair of bringing EVERYTHING down.

You have no solutions and you are living in a dilusional world. When what Obama has been pushing against you to do continues to work (as it HAS been despite your idiotic claims he's failing) it will be a hopeless cause for Republicans everywhere.

Nine months into his administration and you're calling him a failure. THAT'S the American spirit that will drive me harder to keep your party out of office for my remaining days on earth.

Tom B   September 26th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Rather than help try to solve problems, the Republicans continue to be obstructionist and prefer to label people. Honestly, I expected more from Crist. "So bad they can taste it" would be a good motto for the Republican governance style.

bredren420   September 26th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

a lot can happen in 3 years, pal.

Guilty Bystander   September 26th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

Charlie, you haven't got a clue.

Have you been chumming around with Limbaugh at the West Palm Beach mansion?

Trisha   September 26th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

While I can appreciate his point of view, I respectfully disagree. The lower income citizens who are receiving benefits under the current administration are also the ones who realized their right to vote in the 2008 election. This is something they are not likely to forget.

S M R   September 26th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

The MAJORITY thinks the GOP is HARMFUL to the FUTURE OF AMERICA.

S M R   September 26th, 2009 3:27 pm ET

I predict that Gov. Crist will EAT HIS WORDS.

Mario, mtl, ca.   September 26th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

I think this guy is dreaming....

Richard L   September 26th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Charlie Crist is appealing to the hardcore Republicans. He's trying to have it both ways and his liberal record isn't going to go over well with any of them that actually care enough to check.

ALEX   September 26th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

Crist needs to hit the nursing home running.......he's acting totally stupid now.

cfoster   September 26th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Crist should wise up and leave the GOP becuase he is a liberal anyway. I don't think a Republican is the answer either, look at what Bush did to ruin this nation. The GOP had a chance when the took control of congrees in 1994 but the sold the America people down the river. The only people who benefit under the GOP are the rich and big corporations.

Allison23   September 26th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

Republicans are dreaming again.

gg17   September 26th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

If Gov. Crist thinks the American people want a return to reactionary unAmerican incompetent Republican mismanagement, further erosion and destruction of the middle class, undermining of Constitutional principles, etc. he really needs to stop listening to the Republican propaganda machine and get a life.

Betts37   September 26th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Crist has LOST IT!

Becka   September 26th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Republican Crist is just another old, disgruntled, out-of-touch, white-haired moron who yearns for the days of George W,. and the riches and capital gains he once enjoyed. Crist is a greedy Republican who can't stand having "his funds" cut. He needs to be ousted, along with other nonproductive Republicans. What a sorry bunch.

Peace   September 26th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Is that a day dream of Charlie Crist? Is he aware where the approval rating of his party stands now? He needs someone to inform him accordingly.

Dixon   September 26th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

If people remember all that then I am sure they also remember what happened to the average working people under Regan. Don't believe for a minute that Obama has no support, or we won't be blaming the proper people for obstructing improvements for our country. Those few screaming idiots at the so called Tea Party's will not win it for you. I believe until you people have something to offer besides slamming Obama and lies about his policies you have no chance. This is how you blocked so much when Clinton was in office. Lots of delay and fear mongering. If there is one thing the Republicans are good at is war. Demonize the enemy and confuse the battlefield.

VGal   September 26th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

Do these guys JUST NOT GET IT??? Instead of playing CONSTANT politics, perhaps he could address a REAL crisis???? Perhaps the great fortune teller could offer real solutions to problems that exist today? I don't want to hear his predictions on politics. I want to hear his SOLUTIONS.

S M R   September 26th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

We have the CHANGE in AMERICA that was so Important.... Change from the GOP connected at the hip of BIG BUSINESS and the RICH..... TO a LOVING and CARING POTUS That cares about the MIDDLE CLASS ,which is the BACKBONE OF AMERICA. OBAMA 2012, CLINTON 2016,2020.

Perusing-through   September 26th, 2009 3:15 pm ET

GOV. CHARLIE CRIST SOUNDS LIKE A DESPERATE MAN, , , and that is a real surprise. Millions of "real" Americans are hurting, and they are sick and tired of "fork tongue speaking, do nothing" Republicans. Americans know their unemployment directly relate to 8-years of Bush policies, and they know they have NO health coverage because of Congressional GOP "do nothing" policies.

ab from MN   September 26th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

national polls show at only 18% consider themselves affiliated with the Republican party. 66% of people feed the republicans are only playing politics. While over 60% think the republican are being obstructionist. Fox news might be creating a lot of false noise out of the fringe right, but believe me Mr. Crist, we want change and we're not done yet. We're not done until our government is back in the hands of the people and not corporations. We're not going to stop looking for change until politicians serve the people and not the company's bank rolling them. The repubicans are still shrinking. We're going to vote them out and the democrats who are still in bed with corporate america. What you smell isn't a winning streak sir. It's the crap coming out of your mouths.

DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO HAVE IT EASY NEXT ELECTION   September 26th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

Democrats have it easy there are going to GAIN more seats in congres :)

With Republicans like Beck ,Cheny, Rolve, Bush, Bill o riely, Palin and BECK and BECK plus Rush limpy being the leaders and representive of mainstream republicans The democrats need no help to get reelected and take more seat from republicans LOL

They are so good at pointing out radical republican extreamism and protecting the top 1 percent of wealthy corpate WELFARE DEAD BEATS that plundered the WORKING AMERICANS TAXES and wealth under Bush Cheny republican rule. WE REALY DONT NEED HELP.

I see the BLUE SAILS SAILING at the whitehouse for a long time to come :)

Joe In Nevada   September 26th, 2009 3:14 pm ET

This sort of proves that the leaders of the republican party have absolutely NOTHING to offer so instead they resort to this: using their weekly address to not to offer counter-solutions but to predict failure and spread more devisiveness, lies and hate.

VGal   September 26th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

HA HA HA – and let me guess... he's just the man to do it? Ha ha ha. Keep telling yourself how awesome you are.

David Jones   September 26th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

Governor Crist who has followed the Palin template of moving on to something else before completing a single term nor has done anything else in public life, has now added acting as a Presidential historian to his razor thin resume. Obama has a 60% or higher approval rating in states making up 375 electoral votes. And, things are only going to get better as the economy turns around. Once again, there is no basis for a GOP official making silly comments to its base. The GOP has turned into the Party of liars. And, yes, I voted for McCain when I should have voted for Obama.

PALIN/BACHMANN 2012!!!   September 26th, 2009 3:11 pm ET

Charlie Christ is right!!! Republicans are finally regaining the initiative!!! You could see it in the happy faces of the real Americans, the Teabaggers demonstrating in Washington against change. Shouting out proudly that America is just fine the way it is!!! We don't want Socialism messing with our insurance companies or Medicare!!!

Ren from Baltimore   September 26th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

As Governor of Florida, he can sure afford to talk as if he can stop a Democrat from winning the Presidency. Again. Just like Jeb did for his brother. Really, Crist?

CindyLouWho   September 26th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Republicans are sure looking silly these days.....the party is finished.

Tim   September 26th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Amen, Crist. Obama is going down hard in 2012. Only 403 days until the 2010 elections and taking this country back!

victim of republican greed   September 26th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Crist is losing his credibility as a senate candidate in Florida.

jules sand-perkins   September 26th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Gov. Crist is right about the change under Obama. This is far too much change, and the wrong kind.
I hope he is right about the coming ousting from office. I intend to work for it. I haven't been so anxious to see anybody put into office since a gubernatorial race during the 1950s, when the successful candidate was a family friend.
In 2012, my candidate for president will be Anybody But Obama.

nancie   September 26th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Republicans can sure complain, but note, they never have any solutions.....Republicans are NONPRODUCTIVE!

victim of republican greed   September 26th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

I think we will see a McCain-esque loss for the republican candidate in 2012. I cannot imagine independents and moderates supporting the party of hate and corporate greed.

JILL   September 26th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

I'm sure Republicans are crossing their fingers. . . . . .

TOM/Topeka   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Told ya Republican Crist is nuttier than a fruitcake.....Total "nut-job".

Kevin   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Wishful thinking. The difference is that Reagan actually had new ideas that were generally supported by public sentiment at the time.

S Callahan   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

What we need is leadership that is holitstic....inclusive of all elements of society.....but unforunately there is only one who can deliver on that kind of change and he is not here yet....but the day will come when he will be and the world will be better for it.

In the meantime...we have two political parties acting from the same backroom, and filling the world with foolish words and deciet.

Bubble of Sanity   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

There is no comparison of Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama. Carter was already in free fall when he was elected. He had seen a huge lead over Ford almost evaporate. Political commentators of the time said that if the election had been held a week later, Ford would have won. Every time Carter opened his mouth, more people realized he had no plan, no clue.

By the time of the Inauguration, he was already unpopular and couldn't even win the support of his own Democratic congress. He had no victories and won no support.

Obama may not have the wave of excitement behind him now that he had in January, but in the immortal paraphrase of Lloyd Bentsen, "He is no Jimmy Carter." Mr. Obama has more on the ball on his worst day than Carter did on his best.

victim of republican greed   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

Republican dreamers: still crazy after all these years. No solutions, out of touch with reality, obstructionists, against health insurance reform, for corporate greed, and they think the voters are buying it.

Peter   September 26th, 2009 3:05 pm ET

I can bet with you it will be a long time before the republicans win any presidential elections! dont be fooled by wingnuts, they were / still they are republicans, without reaching the independents and dropping the No philosophy on every idea forget about the State House for 2 decades or 3!!!. You can't Rush, Becks and Fox news take over the party!!!. Otherwise after loosing the election of 2012 the republican party will be past tense!! or the south party!

Susan in Arkansas   September 26th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Oh, please, Mr. Crist. President Obama is only 9 months into a four year term and you are making such a ridiculous prediction? Sounds more like wishful thinking on your part. When I look at the number of issues our President has tackled in less than a year, I am impressed. It is so nice to have an intelligent, well-spoken leader back in the White House. Once again, Republicans believe that if they spout enough negativity, people will buy into it. THOSE TIMES are the ones that are over, Mr. Christ.

Luke   September 26th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

Republican crapola.

Justin   September 26th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

What a mess the Republican Party has become....it ain't the Party Mom and Pop once supported. That Party is long gone.

MATT   September 26th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Republicans are now trying anything to convience the American public that we are all wrong and they, the GOP, are truly backed by Christ and therefor, makes everything they said and do turn to gold. Morons.

Buster   September 26th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Obama can only LIE so many times before even stupid liberals don't believe him anymore.......can you say GITMO, transparency, 5 day waiting period, lobbiests in white house, working acroos the isle.

morefromLA   September 26th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Can Charlie see Russia from his backyard too? In eight months President Obama has done more to put our nation on the right track than Georege W. did in eight years.

Blinded by the lie   September 26th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

Then I guess you won't be Senator either bud.

Nate from Atlanta   September 26th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

I actually agree with Crist (one one the few republicans who I would support). Obama needs to get it together quick on health care because if this issue keeps lingering with or without getting it passed, he won't get re-elected.

Kasyla   September 26th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

This is tooooo funny, maybe he's the one to take Palin's place in comedy. What an idiot.

Blue   September 26th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Crist don't count your chickens before they hatch, President Obama is in it for the long haul. Our country cannot take anymore of the GOP rule. The last eight years almost destroyed us and our country. Who do you think that you are? You are just another Bush Republican.

Crist = Opportunist   September 26th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Crist is transparently pandering to the far right (again). He started by opposing Justice Sotomayor over some absurd accusation that she was somehow not constitutionally qualified, even though she ruled with the majority 98.2% on constitutional cases.

Crist is just the type of hallow politician that goes whichever way the winds blow. He embraced President Obama's stimulus at first and of course, now goes into criticism mode as he prepares for an upcoming primary where many FL Republicans increasingly do not trust Crist–his actions are predictable and pathetic.

Marko,TX   September 26th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

Dream on Charlie.....you've got your head in the clouds AGAIN!

Susan   September 26th, 2009 3:00 pm ET

He is right........... we have Palin as the new Reagan, except she is a QUITTER...........

annie s   September 26th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

I wanted this much of a change. Heck, I wanted even more. What I don't want is a return to the disastrous Reaganomics that nearly destroyed this country, and I don't want a return to the go it alone disastrous foreign policy of the Bush era. Republicans have proven to have one voice – one of fear – and have set out to destroy the Obama presidency just as they once set out to ruin the Clinton presidency. I'm hoping Americans are finally smarter than they were and can see that President Obama is on the right path to making America prosperous and competitive in the new world order and building our economy from the ground up. He's off to a good start. Give him his health care reform and that good start turns great.

Ken Williams   September 26th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

I'm afraid the Governor is wrong. The same sheep who showed up in massive numbers to vote for Obama will still vote for him without knowing why just like the first time they voted for him without knowing why. They know he's not qualified but because Sean Penn and MSNBC say he's qualified he surly must be...right?

m jeff   September 26th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Don't worry Gov Crist, we won't make the mistake of putting a selfish greedy Republican back in office so they can look out for only their rich friends.

Sean the thinker   September 26th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

Charlie Crist has a good point. Fortunately for President Obama and his adminstration they have the benefit of learning from history and the benefit of having three remaining years in his term to turn around any negative sentiment against him.

If it was Obama's original intent to implement healthcare reform, Its better to do it at the onset of his term. I think if healthcare reform is going to be sucessful, its results won't be apparent immediately, perhaps during the third or last year of his term. This is why I think he won't have the same misfortune that former President Carter had.

Jim In OC   September 26th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Crist is another delusional Republican.

Crist seems to have forgotten why in incompetent party was booted out of power by Americans.

It is funny to see GOP boys making plans for their upcoming 'Great Victories' after screwing up our country for last 8 years...

S M R   September 26th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Gov. Crist is in LaLa land if He thinks the GOP has a chance in ANY election come 2010,2012 and beyond.

Jacob   September 26th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

and what? vote a Republican in? Get over it!

Erik in Real Pennsylvania   September 26th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

So who will the Republicans nominate to oppose the President in 2012? Who is their sure-thing candidate able to sway all those moderates, centrists and independents who decide presidential elections these days? (cricket...cricket...)

jeff in mn   September 26th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

your party is bankrupt of ideas and morals. I don't care what you have to say.

star   September 26th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Uh OH Chrissy- are you sure you want to say that in the general election when you come down here to florida.I don't think the millions of obama voters, especially students at UF,FSU, FAMU, UMiami, USF and UCF would welcome that. And where you not campaigning with Obama about the stimulus money...i'll keep quiet as I don't want to let your secret out Charlie

anonymous   September 26th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

As a former Obama supporter, I absolutely agree. Obama is the next Carter.

Patty   September 26th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

Keep Dreaming Crist. President OBAMA has been in office for nine months and has the GOP eating each other.

Stu   September 26th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

I remember all too well how Carter fumbled and bumbled during his 4 yrs. He showed cowardice in dealing with the Iran Hostage Crisis, and it took Reagan to bring them home. Carter got us involved in Afghanistan to give the USSR "their Viet Nam", setting the state for the rise of al qaeda and UBL. Now Carter is starting to sound like Al, Jesse, and Jeremiah. Carter was by far, the most inept, worst president in US history and he would do well to quietly fade away. Obama is shaping up to follow suit. We can only hope its four and no more.

How dare he grovel and apologize to the rest of the world. We have saved the world from aggression over and over. Our money provides for all sorts of security, humanitarian aid, economic assistance, and so forth. Perhaps we should withhold all foreign aid, except to Britain and Israel, which are clearly the only two allies we can truly count on.

Jon Krieger   September 26th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Let's hope and pray that he's right!I feel that Obama is already going to to go down in history as the worst president we've ever had bar none!

Liberals are Hypocrites   September 26th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Crist is SO right. We are SO ready to be rid of the empty suit named Obama.

CM   September 26th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

As always waiting for modification; so here goes and the republicans can offer good change.

J.C. - Independent & Insured   September 26th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Governor Crist has no idea. Well, GOP is already on an ousting from the White House and Congress. We need real change for the American People than ever. Obviously, GOP is very satisfied with status quo.

rightsaid   September 26th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Quit dreaming. Carter was a good man. Obama is a great man and he'll likely go down in history as one of our great presidents. But, that is up to him. For now, he is doing just fine, and there is little to indicate that he will lose in 2012.

Keep dreaming GOP.

Musicianforlife   September 26th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

How is this news? This is an opinion....nothing more. Obama has done some incredible things, let not get caught up in propaganda.
